In a country full of pessimists...

Woke up horribly early this morning. Stumbled about. Stubbed toe. Decided not to wake John, given swearing and hopping hadn't. Decided it probably wasn't serious. Burnt self on kettle. Swore more. Left house.

Got to work, changed into uniform, did swift briefing (had already been sent major briefing day before) headed out.

Crept around in hedges, waited for signal, smashed in door. Swept house, arrested those inside, began search.

Was volunteered to go into basement, pretended to be brave, found lots of interesting things (not just in basement).

Knocked off, picked up battery-powered kids' motorbike, drove to flat.

Was 'assisted out of uniform' by John, very swiftly. ...shenanigans ensued.

Apologised on John's behalf to Mrs Hudson. Endured outrageous innuendo. Was persuaded to drop John at Sherlock's school, as he had made himself very late.

Managed to persuade Sherlock not to set off sirens. Allowed him to turn lights on and off.

Went back to the yard.

Dropped off BMW, changed into bike gear.

Got back to flat, endured sulking from Sherlock re bike riding.

Made dinner, ate dinner, ate lovely cheesecake, started trying to draw a moose on large pieces of cardboard.

Got laughed at by John. Sulked. Refused to draw any more moose.

Still waiting for him to apologise.

How was your day?

(he hasn't kissed my toe better yet, either. Although he did manage to kiss quite a lot of the rest of me, earlier, whilst scandalising elderly neighbours.)

I am very sorry I laughed at your moose. Well. A bit sorry.

I'm not kissing your toe though.

in answer to the question Lestrade, far less interesting than yours.

Paperwork paperwork and paperwork followed by cooking tea and then guess what? yes. you got it. paperwork

I hope the moose trouble is over soon

Did you really just call Mrs H "elderly"? Brave boy.

My day sounds like it was rather better than yours, for the most part(chilling, museums and shoes, oh my) but sadly lacking in ... shenanigans (so far).

Greg Lestrade said...

What's wrong with my toe?? You kiss far worse parts of me...

Although it is rather more blue than those parts...

Nameless - I was referring to our next door neighbour, I assure you (and also assure Mrs H, should she be reading.)

Danger - you just see if I ever make you a moose.

It sounds like you've had a very interesting day Greg :-) but good use made of the adult time that comes with early shifts ;-)

I had a surprise visit from a man of god this morning, which was a little interesting until I managed to remove my computer from his line of vision but that's about as exciting as my day has managed.

I hope you've had a lovely evening and that the moose hasn't yet been responsible for murder ;-)

Greg Lestrade said...

A man of God? I wonder what they'd make of this place...

Although I did hear someone preaching the other day that Kabbalah, Harry Potter, Twilight, Yoga and Lord of the Rings were sinful. Which I can entirely agree with. But sadly they continued onto Rock n Roll and fornication. Sort of lost interest then...

pandabob said...

he was a bit of a science fiction geek and new the bloke who built the original star bug apparently so not too bad ;-)

Anon Without A Name said...

The pair of you must have been impressively loud then, if you managed to scandalise the next-door neighbours :-p

Glad to hear that none of your other kissable bits are blue, Lestrade...

Rider said...

And here's me thinking you were all copper Lestrade!

(with the spare parts to prove it and all)

Copper goes green if it isn't properly polished, not blue.

REReader said...

I don't really know how my day went--i bravely accompanied my mother on her hunt for shoes for my nephew's wedding.

We left at noon and just got back (WITH shoes) which makes 6 hours more of shoe shopping that I would ever willingly choose to go through and I am dead. I think.

Your day sounds rather better than mine, though, yay! And I'm sure you'll come up with a very credible moose. (Try googling moose coloring page in google images. :))

Greg Lestrade said...

Rider - blueish green, though, right? I'm sure it'll get there... not that I want Danger to polish my toes.

RR - I think my moose was already credible. It's just Danger who disagrees. Everyone's a critic.

Greg Lestrade said...

and I'm going to bed, before this moose eats my entire night and 'distressingly early' comes around again.

Anonymous said...

Actually, RR, you can google "How to draw a moose". And find stuff. The internet, what did we do without it?

L - My day was a bit on the "now what?!!" side, but I managed to hide in the AC for most of it, and I only have an hour and fifteen more minutes before I can escape to my un-air conditioned apartment. I'm contemplating sleeping at work...

My day ended up being kind of anti-climatic. I started spending a couple hours sitting around a jury room. And then after a while the judge came in and said the guy decided to plea so we all got sent home. I was kind of relieved to be honest. If we had found him guilty - and since he plead guilty it seems reasonable to think we would have - he could have gotten life in prison. That would have been a hard decision to come to I think. Now he gets rehab, which he clearly needs and if he can't make that work for himself he'll end up in jail anyway.

But it was a bit weird to come home from that this morning and then just go back to packing boxes for my move. I didn't even have to do anything and now my life goes on in its chaotic way. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it all day though. It's not like some courtroom drama on TV, it's real people.

Anyway, hope you manage some good sleep tonight Lestrade.

REReader said...

I would definitely sleep at work, rsf, all things considered!

Not meaning to dis your moose drawing, L--after all, I haven't seen it! Me, I'm a designer but I can NOT draw anything! If I need a picture, I either buy, adapt, or both. :) (My mom teaches 1st grade, and when I need pictures for worksheets for her class, coloring pages is where I go first, that's why I thought of it.)

Wow, that was quite a day! And with shenanigans no less...lucky you. That is one of the advantages of unconventional work hours - almost all of my shenanigans with Mr I now take place in mid afternoon...although he's got a sinus infection right now so we will be shenanigan-less until he recovers.

And I sympathise about the moose, I am constantly ridiculed about my drawing skills...but nonetheless continue to draw in the interests of amusing small child...

And six hours of shoe shopping RR? Yikes...not fun...I spent my day attempting to be productive and failing...try again tomorrow.

REReader said...

(And I don't even like shopping...AT ALL!)

I shall, I hope, be uber productive tomorrow, to make up for the lost day. :)

I hope Mr imachar's sinus infection clears up quickly!

I hope your day goes better than mine. It certainly was better than mine today....

I had a morning meeting. Got shot repeatedly as the innocent bystander messenger who isn't allowed to say anything. Bit my tongue for 5 hours. Didn't eat. Came home. Shut my bedroom door. Screamed for 20 minutes in pure rage at being treated unprofessionally. Spent the next two hours explaining my fury to my parents.

Smiled for the first time today when reading your blogs. So thank you. Wounded pride and all :)

Your current job does sound very domestic L - firstly doing the garden and now sweeping. Hope today began without the need for further swearing.

REReader said...

Yes, mazel tov, that's wonderful!

Anonymous said...

Hooray! How much did the baby weigh, or is it only Americans who ask that?

rsf

Greg Lestrade said...

no, people here seem obsessed with baby weight. But I didn't ask. All I know is it's healthy. Born a bit after ten. Not too long in labour - I think Rach was in hospital for about 4 or 5 hours before she showed up?

ryo said...

Congratulations! Glad mom and baby are well.

ryo

Anonymous said...

Maybe it's a girl thing -- how long is the baby, and how much does it weigh, I mean -- because it's almost always the next thing I hear after a birth after gender. Then again, how many descriptors can you apply to a newborn? Tiny, wrinkled, confused... although some of them do manage to be indignant!

rsf

Greg Lestrade said...

I haven't spoken to Rach, only Nicky. Just texted her, she says 8lb 6oz, which is pretty average (she clearly doesn't over-estimate my complete lack of knowledge about the smallest of babies with that re-assurance.)

pandabob said...

8lb 6oz is the perfect size for a little baby girl, babies that size behave perfectly and grow up into beautiful chidren :-)

I hope you're having a good day Greg and that operation moose is completed this afternoon.

Greg Lestrade said...

AnonyBob - She was two days early, too... will she be forever well behaved, punctual and wonderful? I must admit, I'm looking forward to meeting her.

Now what are you saying about heavy, late babies (of which I was one...)? ;)

pandabob said...

number one was 15 days over and 9lb, number 2 was 10 days over and 8lb 6oz so I am quite a fan of late and rather heavy babies ;-)

There is nothing like baby hugs to make the world seem like a warm and fuzzy place :-) I hope you get chance to meet her soon.

John H. D. Watson said...

L - that's wonderful! And I'm glad it went fairly easily for her - at least I assume it did, since four or five hours at the hospital isn't too bad. Does she have a name yet?

Greg Lestrade said...

It sounds like it did, yeah. No name that I know of.

On my way home now.

Anon Without A Name said...

Aw, congratulations to Rachel and her partner :-)

Sherlock said...

Pandabob when do babies start being interesting and not just sleeping and crying and pooing? I want to see it then.

Anonymous said...

Right there with you Sherlock! They get interesting around the time when you can start teaching them things and that depends on the baby to a large extent.

Lancs. Anon

REReader said...

Sherlock, in addition to Pandabob (who is a good source, since she has young children, so good thinking there) you could also ask Mycroft when you yourself starting being interesting--I bet he remembers quite well. And John would know roughly when babies start smiling, and sitting, and talking (sort of!), and all the different developmental landmark guidelines. It's good to ask different people, because there is quite a range of "normal" and different babies get interesting at different rates.

pandabob said...

It depends what you call interesting Sherlock, She will look at you and grasp your finger now, parents think that is really interesting.

At about six weeks old she might smile at you if you smile at her.

at about 3 months you might be able to make her laugh and giggle.

6 months ish she'll be sitting up and be able to pass things to you and fight for her favourite toy

at a year she'll be able to move around, crawling or walking and steal your things and you won't be allowed to play with lots of the things you like when shes around because it won't be safe

and at about 18 month to 2 years she'll ask more questions than you do and be eager to learn anything you want to teach her.

So really it depends what you think is interesting. I'm guessing no one will expect you to change a nappy so don't worry about that ;-)

Greg Lestrade said...

I think Sherlock would find her interesting right now - but only for a few minutes. I'm fairly certain Rach doesn't need the family all turning up for a visit with interested 6 yr olds in tow for a while.

Small Hobbit said...

Congratulations to Rachel and her partner. My daughter was 8lb4oz and a day late and is now just under six foot. Her big brother was 8lb13oz and a year late (to be strictly accurate he was due 29 Dec and finally made it 2 Jan).

Baby sounds an ideal size - still makes me shudder when the daughter talks about babies weighing less than two pounds.

REReader said...

You could ask her, L--she might be pleased with a visit from you all if the "all" part was kept short. (One of my sisters wanted a virtual party after giving birth--the more the merrier!--and the other really wished most of the relatives and friends that showed up hadn't. It's all individual!)

pandabob said...

I'm sure she'll be glad of a few days to recover you're right Greg but one of the exciting things about a new baby is getting to show it off to the people you love :-)

Maybe you could ask Jo if you could borrow her camera and Sherlock could take a few photos of Rach, her partner and the baby when you visit which a. might keep him interested a bit longer and b. would make a lovely and very personal keepsake for them once he'd made the picture :-)

I hope you've had a good afternoon and a lovely, not too moose filled, evening is ahead of you :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Given that right now Sherlock's on my shoulders, holding card moose antlers over my head, and my boyfriend is finding that far too amusing, safe to say my evening will be moose filled.

Sherlock has also informed me he's entered me into the roly-poly race tomorrow.... um.... I may need to practice. John is also finding THIS hilarious.

John is, in general, spending far too much time recently laughing at me, not with me ;)

Small Hobbit said...

Now we definitely need pictures of the roly-poly race ;)

REReader said...

Agreed!

Greg Lestrade said...

any picture will probably include me not being able to walk stright afterward and possibly being sick. I've yet to work out how many roly-polies will be required. But, frankly, more than one doesn't sound appealing....

pandabob said...

what race is John doing? I can't actually think of anything worse than a roly poly race!

The one up side to the weather we've had is that our sports day was cancelled, I was in no way upset by that ;-)

Maz said...

I finally get a good chance to catch up and am greeted with moose, roly-poly races, discarded uniforms and new babies! Awesome. Glad things went well for Rachel. I always side-eye due dates, as my son was 3 weeks early by the due date, but very obviously a week overdone by actual gestation, so they were off by a month! :D

Sherlock - babies are...sort of, well, boring, to be sure, the first 6 weeks or so, because they still can't see or hear very well. But once they do, wow, everything is interesting, to them and those that care for them.

Anon Without A Name said...

You make it sound like a drinking contest, Lestrade :-p Perhaps the trick is to avoid consecutive roly-polies, and take a couple of steps between each one?

Greg Lestrade said...

Nameless (not to be confused with nameless-baby!) - I'm planning on taking as many and as large a steps possible between each one. Or hoping that Mrs T et al actually meant this as a race for kids, and I shall do the usual three-legged or something for parents-and-guardians. Maybe they'll be wife/spouse-carrying? I could do that...

Hi Maz, hope you're well.

John H. D. Watson said...

Maybe he can just go in reverse after every forward one...

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm not sure I can do a backwards roll. Hang on, I'll try...

Greg Lestrade said...

...dogs will need to be restrained if I do this tomorrow. disasterous backwards rolls do not need to be ended by getting a facefull of slobber from an excitable hound...

John H. D. Watson said...

And you blame me for being amused?

Greg Lestrade said...

...maybe not for that last one.

But yes, for everything else!

John H. D. Watson said...

Even when Sherlock was giving you moose antlers??

Greg Lestrade said...

Mmm. I suppose that might have been amusing. I couldn't see just how proud and lovely my antlers were, what with them being on my head...

Nicky said...

Orio - your niece is to be called Jessica Gabrielle. Rachel's doing really well, but you're right, she's quite happy for people to stay away for now. I'm going to see her once she's home, but that's more for moral support, having been there and done that twice! I'm sure she'll want to show off little Jess to you very soon though. She's a beautiful little girl - full head of hair!

Mum's very pleased, as apparently you were to be called Gabriel, if she'd had her way. (Better than Marmaduke, anyway.)

Hope you're all well, John, and Mycroft and Sherlock. I'll call about Carla's plans and we must all get together in the holidays.

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks Nicky! Are we allowed to call her Jess? Give Rach and Pete all our love. And send a photo!

(Marmaduke would have suited you!)

Anon Without A Name said...

Gabriel? That would have made life... interesting :-)

Roly-poly race does sound a bit more like something for the kids. Which doesn't necessarily preclude Sherlock from signing you up for it anyway. Of course, if that is the case, I can only imagine how amusing that'll be for John :-p

Maz said...

Doing well, Lestrade, thanks. And I'd watch that offer to do the spouse-carrying race, John. Have you *seen* how they actually do the carrying for those? I'm not trying to imply anything, but, well, anything to get you in that position, is what I'm saying.

Aw, little baby and I share a name! *squees*

pandabob said...

I may just be a bit biased but I have to say Jessica is a very beautiful name for a baby ;-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Maz - sssshhhhh. It's a fine position for Danger!

Nameless - Maybe I should be grateful to my Dad for something, then... Mum obviously just knew I was going to be a little angel ;)

Anonymous said...

I'm not sure what you mean by roly poly race. Is it like this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EboPkJ9inYs Because the roly poly races I did when I was a kid were with roly poly bugs, not people.

Sherlock, the people who study babies think that newborns are interesting, because they have to find ways to figure out what the baby is interested in when the baby can't talk yet. They watch to see what the baby watches, for example. But I agree, babies are more fun when they're big enough to laugh.

rsf

Greg Lestrade said...

RSF - no, like... a forward roll. Head-over-heels. Um... don't know how else to describe it? I'm entirely certain I'll end up in a tangled heap, if I'm forced to do it.

John H. D. Watson said...

I have not volunteered for any sort of race, carrying or otherwise, though what Sherlock may have signed me up for I don't know...

Greg Lestrade said...

hopefully he's volunteered you for 'doctor, doctor', when you untangle the limbs of the poor roly-poly contestants...

Although I heard he'd put you down for the dressing-up race. I'd be entirely happy for you to be my wheelbarrow in the wheelbarrow race, too...if I thought I could control myself...

Anon Without A Name said...

Could be worse, you could have have cheese-rolling, which takes place not too far from here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOyQBSMeIhM.

I'd be entirely happy for you to be my wheelbarrow in the wheelbarrow race, too

Possibly not wise in public, although it would surely put paid to any lingering hopes that any of the parents may have :-p

John H. D. Watson said...

Maybe I'll just devote myself to the difficult game of not letting Sherlock gorge himself on cake. Surely that's enough for one afternoon?

Greg Lestrade said...

Sherlock is at odds with himself over cheese rolling - it is pointless, and stupid. But it involves throwing yourself down a hill in the mud... so I wouldn't be surprised if he did it one day.

Danger...remind me to make a cake in the morning! I promised Mrs T I would. Maybe more than one... I nearly forgot, with all the moose making and stuff.

REReader said...

Is the moosical Hamlet-ish play tomorrow as well?

John H. D. Watson said...

L - what kind are you making?

Greg Lestrade said...

was going to do..Orange and Honey Polenta Cake, because it's delicious, and there's bound to be someone who needs gluten free cake. There always is, these days. And then... probably chocolate and lavender.

Unless anyone who'll be present to eat it has any different requests.

John H. D. Watson said...

That sounds wonderful, especially the chocolate and lavender. Can you really taste the lavender?

Greg Lestrade said...

yeah, and it smells nice as it bakes.

I can make us one, too?

John H. D. Watson said...

Only if you want to. It sounds like you've got enough to do? Possibly more than enough.

Greg Lestrade said...

Well, I'm assuming Sherlock will wake us at the crack of dawn. Then we've got all morning before sports day after lunch. And making double the mix is really no more effort, then Sherlock can help decorate it when he's home. Unless you or Mycroft wants to do it.

John H. D. Watson said...

How do you decorate it?

Greg Lestrade said...

err...just make some chocolate icing. I might leave some lavender in milk overnight to bring out more flavour. I prefer a stronger flavour.

If I make them early, leave them to cool, we can ice just before going to the school. Leaves mid morning free for... err...things. Whatever Mycroft would like us to do.

John H. D. Watson said...

Things, right... Did Sherlock sign Mycroft up for any of the games? And if not, why not?

Greg Lestrade said...

...because he knows what's good for him?

John H. D. Watson said...

That's never stopped him doing anything before!

Greg Lestrade said...

mybe he just hasn't told him.

John H. D. Watson said...

...That seems worse somehow.

Greg Lestrade said...

it means he's learning, to look on the bright side? And I'm sure Mycroft knows anyway, somehow...

John H. D. Watson said...

Point. Although I'm not sure if that's the bright side or not. The moose is looking good.

Greg Lestrade said...

Oh, you like my moose now.

I think he's an elk, really.

John H. D. Watson said...

I always liked your moose! It was just the drawing that struck me as a bit...hilarious.

Greg Lestrade said...

speaking of hilarious drawings, it's been a while since I drew you and jam... Hmmmmm.

Greg Lestrade said...

yes. exactly that. Just jam jam jam, all the time.

Nanny John, pleeeeeeeaaaaase can I stay up a bit longer?? RR's trying to send me to bed!

John H. D. Watson said...

I knew no one could really dislike jam as much as you claim to.

We could stay up and eat cheesecake...with jam.

REReader said...

Well, if you want to face an afternoon of doing somersaults without sufficient sleep, on your head be it.

(Hee!)

Greg Lestrade said...

I mainly think of you. Jam only features because you like it.

but cheesecake and marmite doesn't sound the same...

John H. D. Watson said...

Cheesecake and marmite sounds horrible. I bet someone somewhere has made marmite cheese cake though.

Greg Lestrade said...

other cheesecake and marmite sounds nice. but not fruity cheesecake.

RR - I shall take that risk. I'm certain that Nanny John will pack me off to bed if he thinks I need it.

REReader said...

(Of course, I might point out that originally, I said nothing about sleep. Just bed. ;))

I take it the moosercycle has come out particularly well, then? :)

pandabob said...

I would have thought that less sleep would be an advantage for roly poly races, the less you're able to think about it easier it will be I would have thought ;-)

If Sherlock has signed Mycroft up for something I'm sure Mycroft will work out a more than fitting response!!

Does cheesecake have enough cheese in to give you nightmares?

Greg Lestrade said...

Anonybob - I don't think cheese gives me nightmares.

Plenty of other stuff does though.

pandabob said...

You're safe to eat lots of cheesecake before bed then :-)

(sorry probably shouldn't have asked that)

Moose finished? I bet it's the most impressive rideable moose any DI has ever made ;-)

Anonymous said...

Alarmed, maybe. And now I really want to taste the stuff.

Greg Lestrade said...

AnonyBob - hope so, or Sherlock will be after me!

Mrs T assures me, in her best talking-to-a-5-year-old-voice, that I don't have to do anything I don't want to, when it comes to sports day...

I'll see if any other adults have been volunteered.

I counter-volunteered Sherlock for it, and then explained to him that I'd win, because of my large size/length advantage (not a phrase I use often...) which made him determined to beat me. He'll probably have me nobbled now... but not until after I've delivered cakes. He declared the wet-mix 'yummy' for the chocolate one.

I've put John's name down for the sack race. I'd do anything to get him in the sack. ;)

Sherlock vs. Lestrade in the roly poly race? Hm. I'm not sure where to place my bet. Size or Flexibility? I'm pretty sure small wheels turn faster!

Will Mrs. H (either Mrs H!) come to watch sports day? And get some cake?

REReader said...

Sounds like an excellent day so far. Can't wait to hear about an even better afternoon! :)

(I think I'll have to go with a draw, rsf!)

Sherlock said...

Mrs T said she was going to steal Lestrade away from John and keep him because his cake was nice but I said she couldn't but she could come and live with us instead because otherwise I wouldn't get more cake and she laughed but I don't think she will really and the sun's out again.

REReader said...

Yay for the sun being back out!

(I don't think she will either, Sherlock, but it was nice of you to offer!)

Sherlock said...

it's only out a bit, but it means we can be outside and all the adults are being boring and talking but soon we'll have races.

Anonymous said...

Sherlock, maybe when Lestrade retires from being a police detective he can be a baker instead of a florist. That way everyone can have cake.

Which races are you going to be in? And are John and Mycroft going to be in any?

rsf

REReader said...

A bit of sun should be enough. :)

(Adults do entertain themselves in odd ways, there's no getting around it!)

Good luck in your races, Sherlock! Are you in all of them, or only some?

John H. D. Watson said...

Sack race accomplished. Only fell over once, but managed to face-plant in a mud puddle when I did...

REReader said...

I'm sure my laughing at that says all sorts of bad things about me... :D (You're okay, right?)

pandabob said...

that was a kind thought about Mrs T Sherlock :-)

are you having a good time at sports day?

Did Greg laugh at your face plant John? I hope you're ok :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Me? Laugh? Never.

I think Sherlock is in every one he can be.

John H. D. Watson said...

L - I'm sure I heard you, but I have no proof since I couldn't see through the mud...

pandabob said...

Of course not how could I even have thought you might? Its not like John's been laughing at you all week and you might have liked a chance to laugh back is it ;-)

Glad you're having fun

REReader said...

Somehow I doubt that even being in every race he can be in is going to wear Sherlock out. :) I hope you're winning your share, Sherlock!

Are you in any races, Mycroft, or have you constituted yourself the cheering section?

Greg Lestrade said...

The doc has leapt into action for emergency doctoring. As much as one can leap when tied to ones boyfriend.

REReader said...

Who's hurt and how badly?

John H. D. Watson said...

Just a sprained ankle. Two people went over during the three legged race.

Anon Without A Name said...

I'm not really laughing out loud at you face-planting into a muddy puddle, John. Not even a little bit :-p

I do hope the being tied together thing was for a three-legged race and not just Lestrade's attemps to keep handsy Mums at bay...

John H. D. Watson said...

For racing purposes only, I assure you!

REReader said...

I'm glad it was nothing more serious--and I bet they were very glad you were there, John!

Anonymous said...

How many races are there? Do the winners get to run around with leaves on their heads or do they just get ribbons?

rsf

Small Hobbit said...

I'm not laughing about you face-planting in a puddle either, no, not at all.

How did the three-legged race go, did you come to an agreement about whose leg went where and when, or was it by trial and error as to what worked best?

Greg Lestrade said...

He was incredibly competent and caring (and attractive), despite being hampered by being tied to a great lump.

REReader said...

He ran a three-legged race with someone else?!?!?!?!

Greg Lestrade said...

I think run is always a slightly strong word when accompanied by 'three legged race'.

If you're talking about the other sort of three legged race, then I don't want to know if he's been doing it with anyone else.

REReader said...

I have no idea what you mean by that second thing, none at all. None.

All I know is "a great lump" can in no way be used to describe to you, so I had to assume you meant someone else. :)

(Was Sherlock very disappointed that neither stitches nor splints were required? :D)

Greg Lestrade said...

Sherlock was disappointed that we'd given up on our quest for victory for something so minor as to not require stitches or an ambulance or anything.

Mycroft very sensibly dedicated himself to keeping the dogs under control, as well as being quizzed for about an hour by a dog-loving 8 year old, who, I think, wanted to take them home with her. And probably now has a massive crush on Mycroft.

John H. D. Watson said...

You were quite helpful in untying everyone, although I should've let you start with us before I tried to get over there...

REReader said...

Heh! I'm sure Sherlock made up for your defection by competing quite fiercely himself. :D

And yes, I would absolutely bet on the crush. (And definitely, if you are bringing two very large dogs to an event like that, someone needs to tend them full-time--I am willing to bet they very much wanted to join in the races! Not an easy job, I'd think, Mycroft, however obedient they are. :))

Mycroft said...

It's not difficult. They're very well trained. They know they have to stay unless I tell them otherwise.

The girl was very knowledgeable about dogs in general, and really quite polite.

REReader said...

I'm glad it wasn't difficult to contain the dogs, Mycroft, and that you were able to have a pleasant conversation with the girl. Are you having a reasonably good time, all in all?

Greg Lestrade said...

We're home. I didnt win the rolypoly race - I would have felt terrible, beating the kids!

Plus i had absolutely no idea which way was up by about halfway down the track, let alone where the finish line was.

I'll update later with recipes :)

John H. D. Watson said...

I think you were rolling toward the sidelines on purpose, hoping to bowl over that one couple.

Greg Lestrade said...

Which one couple? The only one I want to bowl over is you.

Anonymous said...

It sounds like a fun day. Did Sherlock win any of the races?

John H. D. Watson said...

The two who cornered you to talk about their parking ticket for half an hour.

REReader said...

It DOES sound like a fun day! (And YAY! Recipes! I'm definitely looking forward to that!)

Did Sherlock win any of the races?

This! And when is Sherlock's moose play?

Greg Lestrade said...

They were very nearly done for wasting police time.

I really don't understand people who moan about parking or speeding tickets. Don't park there. Don't speed. You won't get a ticket. That seems fairly simple to me...

Moose play is tomorrow afternoon.

John H. D. Watson said...

He almost won the rolypoly one but he stopped briefly to laugh at Lestrade...

Greg Lestrade said...

which was, of course, my plan.

I still feel dizzy, actually...I may have to stagger into the big strong arms of a dashing doc...

REReader said...

He almost won the rolypoly one but he stopped briefly to laugh at Lestrade...

Personally, I would consider a good giggle well worth losing a race. :)

John H. D. Watson said...

L - let's both stagger onto the sofa for a bit.

Greg Lestrade said...

Mm. Got to dig up some recipes. You can point out any you see while I'm hunting that you'd like me to make.

Phobos has an obsession with my left foot. He keeps licking it.

John H. D. Watson said...

Sure you didn't step in something?

REReader said...

(I was going to ask that, John! Great minds, and all that. :))

And thanks for answering about the school play, L. Something more to look forward to! (And I need all the nice things to look forward to I can get--it's been a very weird day.)

Greg Lestrade said...

I've been wearing shoes all day, it's my bare foot he's obsessed with. Maybe there was something in the kitchen... but I doubt anything would have survived on the floor long enough to get on my foot.

I think he's just weird sometimes.

John H. D. Watson said...

He's definitely weird, more than sometimes.

What about that chicken thing? The one with orange.

Greg Lestrade said...

tomorrow? Chicken thing with orange stuff?

John H. D. Watson said...

And coconut rice?

Greg Lestrade said...

for you, anything...
