My thoughts are with their families, friends and colleagues.
"Step forward now, Officer, you've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's Streets. You've done your time in Hell."
In more cheerful news, Sherlock set some sort of glitter-paper trap for me to walk into. So I got home to be utterly doused in glitter and confetti. It's everywhere. And I mean everywhere.
And now, onto a message I promised for AnonyBob, for being the 24000th commenter on this blog. Which, no, doesn't contain nearly enough about my job and far too much about 'boring stuff', Sherlock says.
Greg says sorry he couldn't send you a bouquet. He's got this useless new assistant who is very distracting and keeps dragging him off on adventures... or that's his excuse, anyway. ;)

The Manchester deaths are awful no one should ever go to work and not come home again, my thougths are with the everyone connected with the force and the families.
That message is the sweetest thing Greg thank you :-) it gave me a smile I very much needed today :-)
Im sure that what every good florist needs is an assistant to drag them off on adventures ;-)
I hope you're having a good evening and having fun removing glitter.
Love that picture. And Greg the florist has much neater handwriting than you normally do.
Mmm. Actually surprised you haven't splashed it over your blog before.
I mean... stop lusting after random castle-owning florists. You've got a copper and you're stuck with him.
I have no idea what you mean about his handwriting...
Motorcycles are better than castles anyway. And far less cursed.
I hope it's not at all cursed. Although sometimes I wonder.
Sherlock seems much more chipper today. And now slightly sparkly.
As are you. It's in your ears.
That's a lovely gift! You do realize, however, that we will now all be maneuvering to be the 25,000th commenter...

p.s. a glitter trap sounds like a wonderful surprise to come home to, but I expect you'll be finding glitter in your ears for days, yet.
It's everywhere, Danger! I'm not kidding. Everywhere. Quite a lot of it on you, now.
RSF - That Greg bloke's obviously soft as shit.
I know! Especially after you came over and rubbed your face in my hair right after it fell on you! I swear I didn't know it was there, I would've warned you.
It was worth it. Probably. To see Sherlock's joy and your utter glee. Big kid.
I once found a bit of glitter in my ear two months after I had had glitter in my hair. Of course my hair was longer than yours, so it had more chances to hide, but...
Has Sherlock found any in his ears yet?

It was an amazing thing to see, I have to admit.
I must admit, the whole mental image of a surprise cascade of glitter and confetti perked me right up!
(The holiday was fine, just, well, it didn't seem right without my parents. Even when I was at school I was home for Rosh Hashanah.)
Please tell me you came up with something to get Sherlock back this morning Greg ;-)
I hope you all have lovely days doing whatever it is you're doing today.
I'm glad the holiday was ok RR and I hope you have everyone home soon :-)
Did you manage to get rid of all the glitter or are you spending the day as the glittery DI?
I can't believe that anyone is suggesting that you get into a prank war with Sherlock, civilisations have fallen for less cause!
Lancs. Anon
I'm a glittery DI.
And Sherlock may have gone to school with a blue tongue... I wouldn't know, obviously.
Heh. I'd expect you to be finding glitter in unexpected places for weeks....
John - how're you doing today? I'm guessing events like yesterday's in Manchester are more difficult for police officers' spouses and partners than they are for many officers?
A Blue tongue! now there's something that can happen totally by accident ;-)
Hows the day going Greg?
John how's yours? any progress on the new (second) job front? its tough being at home when you'd rather be at work so I hope you find something soon if you want to and that for now you're making the most of day time bike riding time :-)
Day is good. Had a result on the case last week. I mean, it was never going to be a 'good' result, but it is, I think, the right one. Glad weve got it sorted, anyway. Thanks for asking.
Nameless - I'm guessing events like yesterday's in Manchester are more difficult for police officers' spouses and partners than they are for many officers?
I'm not sure about more difficult, but it is all too easy to imagine what they're going through.
L - did you send Sherlock something? It doesn't seem like something his mum would do, and it's got birthday stickers on it.
I'm glad you've got a result on the case, one set of not good stuff concluded hopefully not to be replaced by a new set :-)
(I hate that an unexpected birthday package should be a nervous-making thing...and really glad it's not just me.)
I'm glad you got that case settled ...would satisfactorily be the right word, L? Anyway, an answer is good.
No. Maybe one of his old tutors? I don't know.
Could be. Or Harry.
Would it be a ridiculous overreaction to have the security team take a look at the package?
I'm sure John will do whatever he sees fit.
Is it a parcel or an envelope or what?
It's only an envelope, so it's not as if there's a bomb in there. I did talk to his mum about it, but she agrees (astonishingly) that it is possible to be too paranoid.
I don't suppose you'll be able to keep it from him too long.
He'd probably actually like a bomb to dismantle. It'll be book tokens and he'll be disappointed...
oooooo present and surprise presents at that :-) presents are the best bit about birthdays although I'm sure we're all supposed to pretend the best bit is spending time with those we love ;-)
L - it's not book tokens. Can you call me? Your phone keeps going through to voicemail.
Oh jesus, give me 5 mins to wrap this up I'll call.
Uh oh... Stay safe!
I hope Sherlock's okay.

RR - going back to before the letter Sherlock got...
I don't think a case like that will ever be satisfactory. I would very much have liked to have found the other remains of the body.
Doesn't feel much like a dignified end to a life, right now.
But it's been solved, as best it ever could be. And I hope the people concerned can be given the help they need.
I hear you.
I'm sure, whatever it is, it's much better than no answers would have been.
