Today we got up and had french toast and I had extra cinnamon and icing sugar and maple syrup on mine but Lestrade wouldn't let me have pancakes too even though I was REALLY hungry because he got up late.
Then we got the tube and a bus and went to Kew and had coffee and cake and then went to see palms and they're good and Lestrade took this photo which doesn't show much but he likes it and told me to put it in. It's not as good as the seed that looks like a bum.
and then we saw a really BIG thing on a tree like a fruit or a coconut but it wasn't and we saw some chocolate bushes and later there was coffee plants too and then we went to the bit Lestrade wanted to see and that was orchids but there was a piranha in a tank that was WAY better than flowers and here it is.
I don't know why it was there but there was also frogs and turtles and other fish and snails and crabs.
Here are some of the flowers they were okay and some were nice colours but I went back to look at the poisonous frogs and piranha more.
There was lots of them and they grew them on arches and big posts and in bowls and all over the place and the purple ones were best but the camera made them look blue and these ones with spots were next best. Then we went and saw snowdrops and then went and had more coffee before coming home because we made the biscuit bits of custard creams this morning with glitter on top and now they were cold we had to put the custard cream bit in the middle and squash them together for John and he's shouting at the rugby and England are just winning but not by much and then he's going to go and Lestrade said we can make pizza tonight for dinner and I think he should practise making us pancakes for pudding so he's ready for pancake day.

Think I'm actually fairly sure I don't need more practice at pancakes... And I'm glad you enjoyed Kew, even if it wasn't quite the same bits I enjoyed.
Oh Sherlock thanks for telling us about your day. Those pictures are really good :-)
I'm glad you've had a good day even if it didn't include pancakes. Glitter on custard creams sounds just about perfect :-) enjoy your pizza making.
Those pictures are great. I like the one Lestrade likes too, because I like patterns, and besides, it would make a great jigsaw puzzle.
Do you think they have the piranha and the frogs and things because they came from the same part of the world as the orchids? That would make some sense.
What kind of pizza will you make for dinner?
rsf
I don't know why they're there I think because they live in the same climate as the plants but there's not always orchids there it's special orchid time at the moment.
We might get pizza from a shop because Lestrade said if I'm really good when John goes AND I WAS then we could go and see the fireworks tonight and I want to because that would be great.
well done for being good saying goodbye to John Sherlock, was Lestrade good as well?
Enjoy the fireworks if you go.
Your day sounds great, Sherlock, thanks for telling about it and sharing the photos! I especially like the first one, it's fascinatingly geometric.
Why are there fireworks tonight?
Vivi
It's Chinese New Year it's very rainy though. Lestrade was okay but he's a bit sad. I'm on his shoulders but we should get pizza soon because it's wet.
Thank you for reminding me about Chinese New Year. When I hear fireworks tonight I won't worry about them.
Do they have a dragon parade there for the year of the Snake?
rsf
I hope you enjoy the fireworks and the pizza, Sherlock, and that it all helps both of you be less sad than you otherwise might.
I like the toothy piranha face picture a lot! It reminds me that I wanted to share this with you...I was grocery shopping and, unsuspecting, came across a huge pile of these: http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq340/rereader3/10395chayote_zps51f931f6.jpg All I could think was "This is what vegetarian zombies would eat..." :D (They are actually called chayotes.)
Enjoy the rest of your evening!
Yes we didn't see the parade because it was earlier I ate a dumpling a woman gave me that was nice now we have pizza and when we've eaten it we're going to start doing our surprise for John.
Did you eat a chayote?
I have not yet eaten a chayote, Sherlock, because I had never seen one before so I didn't know how to cook it or anything about it. But now that I've looked it up I think we will try it--it will be rather fun to eat something I know looks like braaaaains when whole. :)
Have fun working on your surprise!
walnuts are like brains I like them in cake especially with coffee like Lestrade does.
Ha, quite true! I like little bits of walnut mixed in my yogurt, too--or on ice cream. :)
Nearly there. How are you two doing?
Hey you. How's the weather? Forecast says it's sleety.
We're okay. Sherlock did his usual job of charming everyone at the fireworks and getting fed things. Lots of people referred to me as his Dad. He wasn't rude to any of them. We've eaten enough garlic bread to keep vampires at bay for the duration of your absence.
HELLO is it snowing is your hotel nice is there a swimming pool?
L - that's lovely. :) weather is not and there was an accident on the way
Sherlock - not quite there yet. I stopped for a bit in case the weather improved but it hasn't so I'm off again. I'll let you know about the swimming pool
Yes tell me and is there the fridge with all the things in in your room and your own TV and is spider dry?
are you there? Lestrade won't make me pancakes.
Yeah, I'm here. Just picking up some dinner. Spider is dry, I do have a TV, no fridge with things, but I think there's a swimming pool somewhere. Weren't you having pizza?
We had pizza I want pancakes and syrup and fruit!
If you already had pizza, I don't think you need pancakes as well. Be good for Lestrade, okay? Do you want a picture of my room? It's not very exciting I'm afraid.
Yes! Can I Skype you the degus can skype you too and Lestrade's being boring I AM being good.
All right, I'll be on in just a minute.
I wonder if the degus recognise you. You must be getting serious up-the-whiskers shots, Sherlock's holding them so close to the webcam.
It's pretty much all I can see, yeah, their little whiskery faces. I'd rather see yours.
Don't think I stand a chance with Sherlock. Did he just tell you off for typing when he was talking to you?
BOTH stop typing when I'm talking to John it's RUDE You can have a turn with him after!
If you scoot over a bit, Lestrade can fit in too, and I can talk to both of you.
He's got a bad head and I'm meant to be being quiet which I'm trying.
You're doing very well.
Thank you, love. You're doing very well, too.
L - you all right? Did you take something?
Yeah, I'm okay, it's getting better. I think I took stuff in time.
He is being very good. Apart from pancake demands. He did already have ice cream for pudiing.
NOBODY needs to worry I'm taking care of him until he's better
you are a very good boy Sherlock, Lestrade is lucky to have you to look after him while he's feeling a bit poorly.
I'm glad you've arrived safe John :-)
Good for you, Sherlock.
I'm glad you arrived safely, John. Feel better, L.
He has made me say 'aaaah', pulled my eyelids back, held his hand on my forehead and taken my pulse. He's prescribed pancakes...
It was a good effort.
Ha. Well done, Sherlock. I can see you're looking after him well. :)
his phone said get Sally to do it but I don't think she'd want to do a headache
What did you have for dinner will you have pancakes on pancake day or will you have to have some when you get back?
I wanted the man on TV to be eaten by the leopard
....
What are (or were) you watching, Sherlock?
I'd be reasonably upset of Brian Cox was eaten by a leopard. And I don't think the Beeb would show it on prime time.
I had pizza, and I don't know if I'll have pancakes on pancake day. They wouldn't be as good as Lestrade's, so maybe I'll wait until I get back. I think you're right, Sally wouldn't want to do a headache. Not many people would. And now I'm having glittery custard creams. Thank you for helping L make them for me.
That's okay I like making them. Lestrade says don't eat them all at once.
I found a good video of a hippo here it is
http://youtu.be/Ivu5LDQeHJ4
You need to have sound on to....appreciate Sherlock's video.
Excellent.
(LOL!)
That was...amazing.
LoL! Oh, that's a brilliant video, Sherlock! I'm going to have to share that with all sorts of people.
Glad you're safe and set, John, and I hope you feel better soon, L.
rsf
sometimes it's nice for a normal bloke to know that you can have an IQ up in the millions and still find farting funny.
And on that...note (no pun intended), Sherlock, say goodnight because you are getting ready for bed.
John can I phone or skype again and say goodnight when I've got my pyjamas on?
If Lestrade says it's all right, yes.
He just ran out of the room shedding clothing and appeared back naked with his pyjamas in his arms to put them on watching TV. I don't know if he likes lemurs a lot or is still hoping Brian Cox may be eaten...
We'll give you a call once he's actually in bed.
Hm...good luck!
He's desperate to share this video with you. You can watch, I'll install him in bed, we'll see howit goes.
http://youtu.be/AnVv0RkiG4U
(it is the sort of goat you need to be around. Instead of the trouser-eating sort.)
Ha! Yeah, those would be better. You could just stack them quietly in a corner somewhere...
They are actually called fainting goats ^^ (Although they don't really faint they are jsut petryfied for a moment when they are in danger, due to a genetic disease) And they are freaking cute doing it
Anyone want to make bets how long Sherlock remains in bed before getting up again?
And will it be before or after I give in and go to bed...
He told me he missed you after hanging up, John. He was very sweet.
I miss him too. And you.
Miss you too. Just trying to put the sitting room back together. Flat seems very quiet, now the hippo farts and general charging about has stopped.
Sherlock will sleep ok I'm sure, although he'll probably be out to check you're really still there at some point!
It's snowing, too. Not sticking, but still...if he notices, I expect he'll get all excited again.
Yeah. Quiet here too. It's going to be strange sleeping alone.
Let's hope he doesn't notice until morning then.
Yeah, no cold feet, no one snoring in your ear or drooling on your shoulder - don't know how you'll cope ;)
My feet miss you already. Putting them under a cushion on the sofa isn't the same as jamming them under your bum.
My feet are too hot...
not just your feet, I keep telling you :)
Call me, okay?
right away, Doc
Sherlock seems to be asleep when I last checked on him. I've had my late night phonecall to the Doc.
I should go to bed, right?
Right.
Amazing how uninviting the empty bed is, despite knowing I can sprawl all over it and use all the pillows and duvet.
try it Greg but if you can't sleep get up and do something else :-)
I hope you sleep ok as well John.
Yeah, I'm sure once my head hits the pillow I'll be out. Still haven't exactly caught up from Friday night.
Seconding AnonyBob, Danger. Hope you're either already asleep, or will be soon.
Wishing you guys all the best for today and the week. It snowed here at 4am (so I'm told) but there's nothing now.
Hope everyone got a reasonable night's sleep, and that Monday morning isn't too painful.
Sherlock actually fell asleep in our bed this morning ( and then told me off when he realised it had snowed- is still snowing)
So we're going to jump on the bike and get him off to school now. The snow is only really settling away from the wet roads.
Great job Sherlock, I hope school gives you lots of interesting things to tell John about later :-)
I hope your day treats you well Greg.
Have fun in class John ;-)
He was brilliant this morning, and made me promise I'd tell John he's been good. I think he fell asleep because I wasn't getting up and leaving, like I normally am in the morning, so he made himself a nest in the duvet and fell asleep again ( so did I - the sleep, not the nest).
The extra sleep will do you both good I'm sure :-)
Hows today going? busy enough without being too busy I hope.
today is going too fast. how does anyone do things? I've got...an hour before I need to leave to fetch Sherlock, at most., instead of the 5 I'm used to. I'm running around like a blue arsed fly!
Hat off to anyone who manages to do this every day.
He was literally running earlier, through the car park. Come back John!
You'll manage Greg I have every confidence in your ability to do far more than any normal person could :-)
How's it going? We're on a break...half the class has slipped furtively outside to smoke.
Good, yeah. Wasn't late, which is a victory. Thought I might be at one point. Everyone was asking if you were okay, given I'm not usually alone. How's it going?
Hope you told them I've gone off to rustle camels and learn how to do HALO jumps as a restful holiday from entertaining Sherlock. It's good! Really interesting. Smallish class, and everyone seems nice so far. There was a getting-to-know-people lunch and it turned out I'd gone to medical school with one of the people at my table - hadn't seen or heard of her since, I was shocked she recognised me actually. We did some of the history of forensic medicine in the morning which I wasn't expecting but enjoyed a lot, tell you about it later. I'm supposed to be paying attention now! Love you. :
The history part sounds interesting. I bet Sherlock will like to hear about it too. Heck, I wouldn't mind hearing about it! (But I've got a book at the library I'll go read instead of nagging at you.)
L, are you and Sherlock making preparations for pancakes tomorrow?
rsf
We've come to that museum you told me about, John. Sherlock has his face pressed on some slides of insect larvae or something. He loves it :) you'll have to tell us all about your friend later ;)
RSF - there aren't really any preparations for pancakes, are there?
Well, I have to feed my yeastie beasties, or I won't have any sourdough starter. And make sure I've got all the ingredients, too. It's very awkward starting to make pancakes and discovering that you have only got half a cup of flour left in the house.
Which museum is it? I'm going to visit London next year, and I'm making a list. :D
rsf
Just heading off for dinner in a bit after doing homework with Sherlock over Skype. It's very odd not actually being there.
Rsf - if you search for micrarium room you should find it I think. The name of the museum its in is currently slipping my mind.
The Grant museum :)
Sherlock loved it, thanks for suggesting it. It was far too cold and miserable for the park today. He told Mrs N that you were in Birmingham cutting up dead people, apparently...
He told Mrs N that you were in Birmingham cutting up dead people, apparently...
Everyone needs a hobby... ;)
I googled it, thanks John, and now it's definitely going on my list. Truly amazing!
Here's a picture of a bee fossil in trade.
rsf
He's going to be fairly disappointed in this course I think...
It's lovely the way he chats to you as if you're here.
Where are you going for dinner? And are you with the friends you were going to meet, or your course-mates?
Both, actually. Pen and his wife and Sean, and Allison's coming along too. Just on the way there now...Indian, as predicted. ;)
Double date, huh? Not that I'm jealous...
We're having baked potato with cheese, beans, sweetcorn and spinach...Sherlock's choice. And we got cake for pudding :)
Hope you have a lovely time.
Double date plus me as a fifth wheel possibly. Sean really liked Allison back then, though I've no idea how they'll get on now. He probably would've been better off saying something at the time.
Mmm. What kind of cake? I'll have custard creams when I get back. I've decided not to share.
I got one called a SELVA and it's got the stuff Lestrade makes and cream and fruit and cake and it's chocolate! Lestrade got a thing with cherries.
Let me skype all your friends tell them to all go back to your room and then I can talk to them all are they all doing the dead people course too? I want to ask everyone questions have you seen a dead person yet or cut them up do you get people who've died different ways? What things for looking at them and seeing how they died have you done?
Or, if your friends would rather not end the evening with an interrogation, then stay out and enjoy yourselves ;)
Sounds delicious!
We are not actually cutting up dead people, I'm afraid. It's mainly going to be about the law and the sort of records we need to keep and legal definitions regarding whether someone's fit to be interviewed by the police, things like that. If you want to know about dead people, you're still better off talking to Molly and Lestrade.
why do you have to be fit to be interviewed can't fat people be interviewed too?
...Not fit like that. Fit, as in, having no medical or mental issue that would prevent them from being aware of their rights or lead them to say things they might otherwise not say. And with more major injuries of health problems, I'd have to tell the police if the person they've arrested needs to go to hospital rather than be detained.
or, not of
And I've just been told off for texting at the table
And shown your pictures round. Everyone thinks you're adorable, Sherlock, sorry. and the phrase silver fox may've come up in regard to Lestrade.
texting at the table! tut tut ;-)
Have fun John
Greg, Sherlock I'm glad the day has gone well and I hope you have a great evening doing whatever you two want to do :-)
Is part of the job you're learning to tell the policeman if there's something odd about the body in a case where someone's dead? Or is that something that doesn't happen until it gets to Molly?
I'm doing dancing! And Lestrade's playing his guitar and the degus are out because they like the guitar and I'm not adorable but I am the best and a fox ate a baby in London.
No babies have been eaten. One was hurt, not eaten, Sherlock. Don't go telling people foxes eat children, for gods sake.
dancing's good Sherlock as is guitar playing, I'm glad you're having fun.
The fox thing isn't nice but thank you Greg for the clarification I was worried for a minute!
Anon - yeah, although I think that'll be relatively rare from what the instructor's said and I'll be dealing mainly with the living.
I was going to say, an entire baby sounds like more than a fox could eat at one sitting.
Sherlock - maybe they meant Lestrade was adorable...I could believe that ;)
You're soft in the head.
Sherlock is now clambering around being a sharp shooter, picking off foxes.
I think the cake was a mistake...
It waaaaasn't it was nice. John what did you eat?
Am notttt. Just love you, that's all.
Well...you've got a while before his bedtime...might be all right?
You talking to yourself, Danger?
That was ME the computer went stupid.
...he can't even get his name right. I'm not seeing 'might be all right'...
I know what my name is! The stupid computer typed in the wrong box because it's stupid
do you know if you're having pancakes yet? Mycroft says they get pancakes.
Did I just ask myself what I ate? Heh. I had gosht curry and naan and we all had the pakora platter. I probably ate more than my fair share of it.
No information regarding pancakes yet, I'm afraid.
We're having blueberry sauce I miss you it's better when you're here too
I miss you too. Are you having bacon ones as well?
Lestraaaadeeee, can we have blueberry sauce when I come home?
YES BACON
and yes blueberry sauce again because I bet it will be nice we got blueberries in the shop earlier because they were on special offer and Lestrade says he can make them into sauce and he says it's easy but he always says that even when it's hard. Where are you now are you in your room or still out with your friends? Is it snowing? It snowed REALLY HARD today but it was just wet on the ground
He's now bouncing shouting baconbaconbacon...
L - then my work here is done ;) How are you doing?
Sherlock - out at the pub but leaving soon probably. We all have to be up early tomorrow.
he always says that even when it's hard
Ha! So true.
I didn't know this commercial ever got over there!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CErapf79rqM
Bacon bacon bacon bacon bacon
The stupid computer typed in the wrong box because it's stupid
Those autofill setting will get you every time... :)
Snow falling is pretty to watch, even if it doesn't stick.
Ha, Anon, I was just thinking of that!
(FYI: It is REALLY hard to see the blurry kind of captcha with cataracts. In case you were wondering.)
No, we didn't have that advert, Anon - never seen it before. Looks American? Canadian? He's doing a good impression of it though.
Not true!
American, and a long time ago!
L - sooooo true.
Hope you have fun, John.
You'll survive, Orio. You survived us lot, anyway, all those years ago!
Sherlock, I hope you have a good time this week, and show John how much you missed him when he's back for half term.
So how do you make blueberry sauce, L? Inquiring minds would like to have some on their pancakes tomorrow.
rsf
Thanks, Nicky. It's going well so far. :)
I'm sure there are lots of ways. but I'm going to chuck maple syrup and blueberries in a pan, bring it to the boil, stir it up and eat it as soon as we won't burn ourselves.
Cheers, Nicky. Sherlock's nearly as much trouble as you lot though ;)
Danger - remind me to show you what the goos can do to a toilet roll. It's actually quite impressive.
We can have it for breakfast!
(I presume he means blueberry sauce, not a shredded toilet roll)
You never know...
That does sound easy. I think I'll probably use simple syrup instead of maple though. The good maple syrup is too expensive to have as anything but itself.
rsf
Honestly, the goos have completely unravelled a toilet roll, shredded it and stuffed the entire thing in a box we'd given them. I assume they're still in there somewhere...but it's hard to tell. It's just a tissue explosion.
Might try it myself...maybe it'd help me sleep without you.
That sounds like a roll of toilet paper is the best gift EVER for a degu!
I thought you meant an empty one! That does sound impressive.
How was it last night? And how's your head? Better?
No, call me soft, but I was worried they might get cold.
Last night was lonely. And cold. But my head is fine, took drugs in time.
I just can't believe how few hours there are in the day...
Yeah. Our bed is much nicer than the one here. Although this one would be improved a lot by having you in it.
It's strange, right? The day's hardly begun and then you're picking Sherlock up and then suddenly it's over.
I was recently told by a woman who'd just had a baby that the thing she noticed most was that every job she did took less time than it used to because she had something she'd rather be doing. I'd bet you've done more in the hours you were at work than you would have done in those hours had you not been leaving 'early' to pick up Sherlock :-)
The day's hardly begun and then you're picking Sherlock up and then the REAL work starts
is what you meant, right?
He's calling you to say goodnight. I'm trying to make him be quiet because the degus are asleep... he goes up in the volume as he gets more excited.
Ha, that is indeed what I meant.
...right, he's got his head down. With a book. I'll put the kitchen back together and mope about feeling lost ;)
You back from the pub? Have a nice time with everyone? Got plans for tomorrow, or can you view Sherlock breaking a world record for pancake eating via Skype?
Yeah, back in my aggressively neutral hotel room. If you do it after five I can... How many do you think he'll get through?
No moping, skype with me instead?
At least some will be consumed after 5. Although I fear I won't get out of the door in the morning without cooking some. I found eggs and the flour in our bed earlier - 'to remind me', he said.
Let me tidy the kitchen, then Skype, if you're not too tired? Then I should do some guitar practice until I'm sure he's really asleep.
You know, you could both have an early night and a long phone call :-)
John - glad you're enjoying the course.
Lestrade - you're doing great, as far as I can see. When you get up tomorrow, it's just three more sleeps until John's home. And Mycroft, right? He's on half-term next week, isn't he?
Ha. As if his mentioning it 70 times in one day wasn't enough...
Sounds good. :)
skype's quite good for long, private, bedroom based phone calls isn't it? ;)
Nameless - it is, depending what time John finishes on Friday. And the weather. And yes, Mycroft's back too :)
Anon - Skype would be, if I'm very certain a small someone won't wander into the room because he can't sleep...
All that talk of bacon and of pancakes made me think of this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en_sVVjWFKk
Sorry, it'll get stuck in your head. Happy mardi gras!
I think I might get pączki for breakfast tomorrow, they're another traditional mardi gras food, from Poland. And then maybe bacon pancakes for dinner?
