I know this room, I've walked this floor

Firstly, thanks, for all of you who're reading and leaving nice comments. And, well, it's just good, to know you're all on our side. And sometimes sort of hard, too, knowing you're all out there. But mainly good.

It's sort of...well, not sort of, it's very odd, thinking that it's not just me and John, but all of you, and the boys, and everyone here, and...well, I can honestly say I've never been in a relationship like it. Adds a bit of pressure, maybe. But sometimes that's probably helpful, too, I guess.

And also sorry, for anyone who was reading my last post, and it did stray a bit, I guess, and I know a few of you have been through hard times in relationships, and I always worry reading some of the things here will bring up bad memories, and, well, yeah, sorry if it did. Does. I know it's not nice, suddenly being reminded of something when you're not expecting it.

Work's busy. And I need to pick up some nights before we go away on holiday. I'll probably take the weekend. No one wants weekends. And I feel better knowing Mycroft'll be here too, when I am on nights. And not just because he can cook. ;)

Got a few hard cases on at the moment. One's a child. It's...yeah, always hard, but both parents are blaming the other and...well, it's difficult to unravel that sort of thing.

And we're short-staffed, again. Thin blue line getting even thinner. I've been waiting for some lab results back for what seems like forever, but there are backlogs.

Anyway. Nicky sent me this. Her words were 'something to cheer you up - your two favourite things in one! Naked men and flowers.'

Hope it'll cheer some of you up too.

Those flowers are pretty fantastic.

When correctly viewed everything is lewd?

Greg Lestrade said...

Rider - they are called 'Naked Man Orchids' - so obviously a lot of people viewed it that way.

You can do nights when I'm with John I'll help cook! Except nights are stupid so you shouldn't do them anyway.

Something for Greg the Florist to keep in his shop!

And that reminds me; will you be going to see the Pompeii exhibit at the British Museum? I certainly wish I could go.

Greg Lestrade said...

I know. And I know you'd help, too.

Do you know what you're going to be doing in your art class tomorrow? Or doesn't Mrs N know either?

Sherlock said...

Paintinggggg. What do you mean what?

Greg Lestrade said...

I wondered what sort of paint, or technique - like, basics, to get you going, or straight into a project? A still life? But you should now be sleeeeeepy, kiddo, and going to sleeeeeep.

Sherlock said...

Oh I don't know but I hope the oil kind because you can put huge lumps of paint on.

Greg Lestrade said...

Bed!

Oil takes ages to dry, anyway. I'm not sure you'll have the patience to begin with. I'm sure you can tackle it later, if you want.

Sherlock said...

I am doing bed things! I want to make fake mummy paint.

Greg Lestrade said...

The only bed-thing you should be doing is sleeping!

Come on, sleep, or John and I will be forced to mummify you in the fnug and lock you in your tomb, perhaps never to be discovered.

pandabob said...

sleep well Sherlock and enjoy your art group tomorrow :-)

REReader said...

Night night, Sherlock, and have fun painting tomorrow! I'm looking forward to hearing all about it.

L, John--fwiw, being willing to communicate and work out the hard, uncomfortable stuff is what makes a solid, relationship, as opposed to a fling. You guys do better than okay.

Greg Lestrade said...

He is, thankfully asleep.

He's a bit like John - wide awake one minute, spark out the next. A useful skill, I'm certain.

pandabob said...

I'm sorry works busy Greg and involving kids, that doesn't sound nice :-(

Nicky knows you so well doesn't she ;-) it’s nice that she can come up with something to make you smile when you need it :-)

You two are amazing, separately and together, we’re lucky that you chose to share your lives with us :-)

REReader said...

(Oh, and I love that song!)

Greg Lestrade said...

AnonyBob - Yeah, it's not much fun. And yes, it was sweet of Nicky to send me the picture.

It is often hard to hear of people you love being unhappy, but when you are struggling yourself, it's sometimes nice to know you are not alone. And there is so much support out there for you and John, try drawing a little strength from that ? Wishing you a smooth day at work, Orio

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks, Fen. Hoping to get lots done and get to Sherlock's school for painting fun.

And there seem to be a few people commenting recently who are either new or newly-commenting. Welcome to all of you.

pandabob said...

good luck with your day Greg, I hope you make it to school in time for lots of messy, colourful painting :-)

To be honest the fact that you two are freaking out a load of anonymous people on the Internet ought to be the least of your worries. So long as you know we are all rooting for you then that's as much concern as you ought to give us. That said, that's a scary-ass title for a post :)

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, post titles are a bit spur of the moment. And sometimes I regret them after.

And thanks. In feeling a bit better today. I hope John is too. I know the boys worry about us, but... Well, we're only human , they know that.

Anonymous said...

The boys love you. You and John love each other as long as that is first and foremost then things should work out OK.

Greg Lestrade said...

John,Sherlock, I'll be about twenty mins and then be at set class, sorry I'm late.

John H. D. Watson said...

Excellent. :)

Greg Lestrade said...

That was quite a lot of fun

REReader said...

Yay! Do we get a full report? Sherlock?

(I thought the post title made perfect sense, since I automatically filled in the next line, which fits exactly the first two paragraphs.)

John H. D. Watson said...

It was fun. I've got more paint on me than I'd planned.

REReader said...

Oil or acrylic? :)

Greg Lestrade said...

RR - but overall, the song isn't exactly upbeat about the state of a relationship, which I assume Anon was referring to.

John - glad you had fun. Just sitting on those tiny primary school chairs turns me into a kid, I'm sure. I had fun too. Thanks, Sherlock, for inviting us.

Anonymous said...

Ah, but did they let you fingerpaint? :D

I couldn't find a way to make fake mummy paint, but Sherlock, if you're interested, I did see a video about making your own watercolors from natural pigments (and honey!) online. I'm just not sure how you grind up the rocks for the pigments!

Sherlock said...

You have to have a dead body to make fake mummy paint so I don't think John and Lestrade would let me except I thought maybe I could do it with a chicken and I will look at the watercolours later but I am going to help cook now.

Anonymous said...

It might take a while to mummify a chicken. Would it be easier to think of what chemicals might be in the mummies and make a mix? Iron, for instance, and calcium?

What are you cooking?

rsf

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, afraid you might have to wait a while until you persuade someone to donate their body to your cause.

John - You definitely should wear your painting jeans next time. I mean, you may as well, right? And no one will mind the handprint.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha. I probably should've thought of that for this time...

Anonymous said...

It would probably start a new fashion.

Greg Lestrade said...

As long as everyone else has someone else to grab their arse with a painty hand. My hands are only for John's arse.

Kestrel337 said...

There was a purchased curriculum back when I was a homeschooling mom. It had a whole project to embalm and wrap a store -bought chicken. We opted against though, because some folks on the user groups said that if you Didn't get it exactly precisely right it could be smelled for a whole block. I cook about as well as John has implied he does so figured if anyone could mess it up it'd be me.

Anonymous said...

I am encouraged to see that there are no comments about people putting paint on John's head. That particular practice should probably stay relegated to the sock family. ;)

REReader said...

Believe it or not, one can buy a pair of pre-handprinted trousers--in a slightly different location.

:D

pandabob said...

I'm glad you all had fun at the art class, and that your day worked out to allow you to be there Greg :-)

I hope you're all enjoying a relaxing evening.

Greg Lestrade said...

Cheers, yeah, I'm glad I got there too. It was nice, and Sherlock was so happy we'd both made it.

I'm just talking myself out for a walk. Today...honestly, I haven't even managed to have a slash without someone being there talking to me. Feel like my head's going to explode.

(Should say it's all been good - six arrests today - but just mad busy.

pandabob said...

why talk yourself out of it then? everyone needs quiet at some point!

Great job on the arrests :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

...taking myself.

REReader said...

A little quiet time is a Good Thing.

Greg Lestrade said...

Be nicer if it really was quiet. too many people about, really. They should be banned from closing the parks.

John H. D. Watson said...

There are days when I think people should be banned entirely. From the whole city. Just for an hour or two, then they could come back.

Greg Lestrade said...

Always feels too much like a disaster movie, though. I've been places in this city often enough that have been completely evacuated for a bomb threat. It's...odd. unnatural.

REReader said...

There are a few spots in the Metropolitan Museum of Art here that are usually deserted, or all but, and I treasure them for that. (They are saved from spookiness by the fact that people do wander by from time to time. :))

pandabob said...

I hope the walk helped Greg even if it wasn't quite quiet enough and I hope you've had a good day John :-)

The first time I visited New York City, the friend who lived there got a little scared when we were walking back to her place at three in the morning and we were all alone on the street. I didn't understand why, then, but after living in Boston for years, I get it now. Cities are supposed to have people in them.

rsf

REReader said...

Cities are supposed to have people in them.

Well, that, and that there's (some) safety in numbers.

Greg Lestrade said...

AnonyBob - thanks :) sorry, sort of missed the last line of your comment last night. Yeah, 6 arrests for two cases. Dealing with it all now. And clinging to a vague hope I can have tomorrow off ... But that might be impossible.

RR - not sure I've ever really believed safety in numbers. Maybe, sometimes.

pandabob said...

Lots of arrests mean lots of paperwork I'm guessing! Good luck with it all, I hope you manage to get sorted so you can have tommorow off even if you have to do a bit of working from home ;-)

REReader said...

L--Dunno about the statistics--more than likely you're right--but I bet RSF's friend (like most city-dwellers) automatically associated empty streets with violent crime, and crowded streets with safety.

Anonymous said...

I don't think it's violent crime so much as "when are the zombies going to start lurching out of the shadows?" Too many doomsday films!

rsf :D

REReader said...

LOL! I can honestly say I've never envisioned zombies in Manhattan--not at these real estate prices!
