Work...workworkwork. Got back to some cases which ...aren't very nice. And the usual paperwork, although everyone's been doing pretty well at keeping it away from my desk, thankfully.
John brought the boys to see me for a quick coffee, which was nice. Sherlock climbed all over me, because he's still eating his Easter Eggs.
Still coughing like a b******. Although...feeling better again? I don't know. Can't you just get your lungs spring cleaned or something?
Mycroft has made us some fantastic pizza tonight, because he's a wonderful young man and very thoughtful.
It seems we're all pretty excited about the allotment - which I'm really pleased about. I really wasn't sure if everyone would like it. Sherlock is planning some sort of bio-engineering. The rest of us are planning what we'd like to eat. Apart from mutant strawberries.
I thought, as John loves his hot food so much, we probably needed some chillies.
Obviously, I'm not that keen on them...
But then we found these - something for everyone ;)
I'm really looking forward to it all. It's nice watching something grow, and it'll be a great learning curve for the boys, too.
Also, as Sherlock is just about fit to burst, now that we're home from our weekend away, here's his news:
We're getting chickens after the holiday but not big chickens straight away but EGGS and they'll have chickens in them and we're getting an INCUBATOR too and we have to watch them until they hatch and then take care of them and they'll get big and then we can use their eggs to eat or make things with or look at. I can't wait until we get them and can watch them and we have to keep notes on everything that happens and we can listen and see if they're going to hatch and it'll be the best thing EVER.
...I admit, it does sound pretty exciting.

I'm sorry about the cases. You can tell me about them later if you want to, or not. You know.
Chilli willies... I can't add anything to that.
He does mean at school, right? He hasn't somehow got the idea that we'll be hatching chickens here?
Oh, definitely at school. Apparently Mrs N told them about it to make sure they were all looking forward to coming back after the holidays.
I...think, though, that some people might have chicken at the allotment site? And, whisper this very quietly, maybe bees?
Not sure about the cases. Think I need to think about them a bit more.
chickens for your allotment?
if you feed chillies to the chickens will you get flavoured eggs?
sorry you didn't get to leave your cough on holiday Greg but one day you'll be right I'm sure or you'll have to admit defeat and see someone about it :-(
Oh good. That's ideal actually. He can ask people millions of bee questions and visit them and there will be no need for them to come home with us.
All right.
We will need to ...I can't think of the word. I wrote 'implicate'...and that's not the word...
we'll need to start frisking him, for bee stowaways...
instigate!
If it's bee theft you're talking about, he'll probably implicate himself with no help from us...
True.
I feel like my brain's not made the switch between 'holiday' and 'work' at all well.
Feels like it should've been a longer holiday.
definitely. I...think I can get Thursday off. And..sort of Friday. Because I'm on nights Fri and Sat.
That'll be nice. Maybe we can plant something by then.
Keen, aren't you, my little allotmenteer?
I am, actually. It just sounds like fun. :)
...just realised we need to frisk him for chicken stowaways, too, come term-time.
I sort of hoped it would...give you a bit more to do, if you see what I mean, too. Any way I say it makes it sound like you don't already have loads to do...but I guess I mean, another place to go, goals to achieve, and we can all join in.
I hope that didn't sound offensive in any way.
I'm going to bed. Joining me?
It sounds fine, love. I know what you mean and I do appreciate it. Yeah, bed would be nice.
Chickens do sound exciting, Sherlock. Your school is going to have all sorts of animals, isn't it?
L, I hope your cough goes away soon. After two weeks of antihistamines, mine has finally decided to limit its appearances to when I've just woken up, but I'm still plenty tired of it.
John, maybe you can grow carrots of many different colors on your allotment.
rsf
At least it's a sort of useful cough - actually clearing crap out of me. It's the pointless dry cough I hate.
Hope today is good to all of you
I hope your cough, productive or not, clears up soon.
An incubator is indeed VERY exciting, Sherlock! I look forward to reports, especially when the eggs get close to hatching!
Is it a Good day or a bad day or just a day before day off day Greg?
Are you lot having fun Sherlock?
Day were I wish there was more we could do to help people.
I'm sorry it feels that way. I'm familiar with those days. You do a lot though. Everything you can.
Bugger :-(
John's right about you doing a lot but I'm sorry today doesn't feel like that.
And...I don't think I'll be home tonight. Sorry.
All right. At all? I thought you weren't starting nights till Friday.
Won an all expenses paid trip to HMP Frankland
... What happened exactly?
You sound like you think I've been sent there by a judge...
Suspect in one of our cases is doing time there, someone has to go and speak to him. It's going to be me.
I'll nip home, drop off the bike, grab some clothes in a bit.
Just checking. Sometimes our lives are unexpectedly exciting. Glad you haven't been incarcerated. Do you have time to eat before you leave?
Maybe, very quickly, if you can drop me at the station on your bike after.
I can do that.
Thanks. And sorry, I know it's shit
It won't exactly be fun for you either. Wish you didn't have to, obviously, but it's just the way it is.
They'd have been hard pushed to find somewhere further to send you L.
Can I go too?
Thanks for food, love, you're fantastic. Add a flask of coffee and I may actually fall down and kiss your feet.
Sherlock, I'd love to take you along, but there's nowhere for you to go when I'm at the prison tomorrow morning. Sorry.
I could wait for you, I am almost eight! That's really old.
Thought I was 'really old' :)
I don't think your mum would like you hanging around the prison gates waiting for me, sorry.
I mean almost grown up!
Fiiiiiiiine.
so...um, in the space of ten minutes I've gone from coming home to pick up some clean underwear and a shirt...to now being in a cab with underwear, Sherlock, and a member of the security team who's worried because he didn't send his mum and Easter card and wants to know what flowers to buy her...
See? Unexpectedly exciting...
Fantastic ;-)
Safe trip and good luck with getting what you need from up there
we only just got our train on the last door and we had to RUN and we got on and now we've got a table and Lestrade's got files and he won't let me see them and DON'T LET MYCROFT EAT MY PUDDING
Nah, I'll eat it myself...
Good luck, Lestrade! :)
NOOOOOOOOOO and I know how much it weighs so don't even try and eat it a bit and don't do anything fun until I'm back
are you researching things to do while lestrade is busy in the morning Sherlock? It might keep you busy while he looks at his files :-)
he's researching the train at the moment. Thoroughly. Happily there aren't many people on it.
There's nothing better than a curious boy on a train it brightens the journey :-D
We'll just be over here, having unauthorized fun...
Oh, I thin you might have forfeited pudding when you chose to go on an adventure with Lestrade, Sherlock :-p
Lestrade - it's certainly an interesting choice, to take Sherlock with you :-)
John, Mycroft - are you enjoying a quiet evening?
I can inform all of you that Sherlock fits in a luggage rack above the seats on the train.
He also cannot get out of one again without help.
Ha! Having an entertaining trip so far?
I can inform all of you that Sherlock fits in a luggage rack above the seats on the train.
You never know when knowing a fact like that might be extremely useful. *nods*
RR - the moment that becomes useful is rapidly approaching...
Danger - he's just worked out he will be up beyond his bedtime. He's very happy about it.
you could bed him down in the luggage rack then he wouldn't be up past his bedtime ;-)
I'm allowed to stay up and Lestrade said I can have a hot chocolate from the carriage that has a kitchen in it and the man he's going to see is bad because he got into people's houses when they were asleep and did bad things and he was telling me and then a STUPID woman who has face paint on said Lestrade shouldn't tell me because I was too young and I'm NOT and now he won't tell me
Hot chocolate and staying up late sounds fun, though! Did you find out anything interesting about the train besides that you can fit in the luggage rack?
Well, that's up to him. How late will you get to stay up do you think?
its weird what nosy people think they can say to people with kids Sherlock but I'm sure it won't stop Lestrade for long, he knows what you're old enough for far better than a silly woman on a train :-)
I was on a train once where someone did climb up into the luggage rack to sleep. It seemed very practical at the time, because there were a lot of people in the seats, and not very much luggage in the racks. I would have done it, but I was too big to fit.
Did you have any food with your hot chocolate, Sherlock?
rsf
...she has make up on. Not face paint. Although I see your point...
And I'll tell you as we go to get hot chocolate, now, because sometimes when people say things like that it means they don't want to hear what we're talking about, not that they don't want you to hear it, so much. So it's polite to stop talking about it until you're not near that person.
Danger - train isn't due in until about quarter to eleven. Then got to get a taxi to the hotel. So quite late.
He's a HORRIBLE man and I think I should go with Lestrade to help and anyway the website says children CAN go and visit the prison!
I got hot chocolate and a slice of fruit cake but it isn't as nice as Mrs Hudson's
Train food is never as nice as home food.
There is (or was, it's hard to tell from this distance) a farm park near the prison that might be neat to visit while you wait for Lestrade, Sherlock. You could ask them questions about chickens.
rsf
I have it on good authority that Frankland prison is no place for anyone who doesn't have to go there Sherlock, there are lots of fun things you could do around there instead :-)
Sherlock - kids can go to the prison to visit people from their family, or friends. But it won't be any fun. Especially if you decide to tell anyone there why you're there...it won't make you many friends.
RSF - he won't have much time to do much without me. Although now he's found the website for that place I'm not entirely sure he won't manage to escape the hotel and go there.
It'd be very boring for you, Sherlock. I think you'd be a lot better off helping the security guy pick out flowers for his mum.
Maybe you can go back to visit the farm park another time, when you aren't under a time constraint and it's warmer. I just was trying to figure out the geography of your trip and couldn't resist a place called "Adventure Valley" on the googlemap.
The hotel probably has some interesting things to do too. And maybe the security guy has some ideas that would be good.
rsf
We're nearly there and it's LATE
Lestrade says the hotel will be boring and won't even have a swimming pool or a hot tub or anything!
You okay, John? Hope you're enjoying a peaceful evening - and that you and Mycroft get a lie in tomorrow, and get to do something nice together.
Sherlock, excited as he is, is seriously flagging now. Think he'll be asleep before we get to the hotel.
Am I okay? I was more worried about you and your small enthusiastic travel companion. I'm glad he's calming down a bit.
He's fast asleep in the taxi now. Although he's given me some pointers on how to run my interrogation tomorrow. Fairly sure most of it was against the Geneva Conventions...
I fear the hotel will be a serious let-down for him after the mill. As the whole trip might be. It's really not going to be that exciting.
He's getting to go somewhere on his own with you - I think that's all he wanted really. Besides, he sort of makes his own excitement.
How are you doing?
tired. we're all checke d in. Sherlock is tucked in. I just need to do a bit more reading. I'll call you in a bit, if you'll be up?
Yeah, please do. I'll be up.
Okay. He's already tangled up in the fnug in a bundle. My eyes feel like they're burning out from reading all this.
Call in a minute.
One-on-one time with your favorite adults is such a nice treat. For both people, really. Even if it's just a stay at a not-fancy hotel. (Or, as we do it here, getting to go along on the grocery run)
I hope Mycroft enjoys his time with John as much as Sherlock is enjoying his time with Greg.
Even if it's not everything he hoped, it's something to be able to know what you're missing (for once) and realize that sometimes the things that grownups do aren't all they're cracked up to be. And, as others have said, he gets to spend time with you.
When I was a kid, my mom usually put in her first row of peas on St. Patrick's Day, so it's not too early to plant some things.
the train ride. wow. I have some pretty fond memories of similarly spontaneous trips, but not when I was quite that young. I suspect, no matter what happens at the end of it, the trip itself will be a highlight for Sherlock!
