There's a man I've found could remove his sorrow

How about this for a wedding song? Good, right? John rolled his eyes at me. Well, it was an eyeroll or a really high lob he was watching in the tennis...

We had a pretty good day today. Not sure we've found 'the suits' yet, but definitely getting closer.

After last night's degu-escape (well, I don't think she really escaped - just wandered off), Sherlock is being extra-careful with them both. He's sitting in the little run-thing we have in the sitting room with them, not just wandering around holding them.

We think she was in the sofa, but we're not sure, because one minute John and I were lying on the floor, talking about stuff, the next the pile of degu-treats (which we were halfway through eating...) had an extra guest nibbling at it.

My head has been given a clean bill of health - well, roughly speaking. Sherlock is most annoyed he didn't get to remove my stitches.

That's the perfect song Greg ;-)

I'm glad your head is unstitched and hasn't fallen apart or anything :-)

Have a fun evening with the degu Sherlock :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

unstitched, taken down in evidence :)

I thought it was a good song, but I don't think I'll be getting my way ;)

REReader said...

Ha, that's an awesome song choice! (Even if it doesn't make it into the ceremony. :D)

Small Hobbit said...

So which one of you is the Pinball Wizard?

pandabob said...

Is work a hive of busy today Greg? Good luck with whatever you're doing :-)

I hope you're having a good day John :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, I'm on the bizarre shift pattern this week means I need to do a million things today.

Glad you found Argon. Escaped small animals are the worst; they can hide in so many places. We once lost a guinea pig and finally found her where she had climbed through a hole in the fabric covering the bottom of the box spring of our bed and was wandering around in there.

Good luck with all of the things to do. I've been childless for the last 3 days and have accomplished exactly zero of the things I had planned, other than sitting on the sofa and soaking in the quiet.

John H. D. Watson said...

That's not what you intended to accomplish? It'd seem the only logical choice. ;)

Mazarin said...

Well, we did accomplish going out to dinner at an Italian restaurant we'd never tried - the fried fresh mozzarella with arrabiata sauce and garlic toasts was great, the chicken Marsala was most definitely not. So...one thing, maybe? :)

REReader said...

Oh, yay! The Supreme Court just struck down DOMA on equal protection grounds!

Greg Lestrade said...

Might be late home, Danger.

John H. D. Watson said...

All right. Nothing too bad I hope? I'll make dinner.

Greg Lestrade said...

No, just got to have a meeting with someone and she's on nights so I'm staying late she's coming in early.

What's for dinner :)

John H. D. Watson said...

Salmon and this Greek orzo thing. I hope.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm sure it'll be lovely :)

John H. D. Watson said...

wish me luck. ;)

Anon Without A Name said...

@ReRe, I saw that, excellent news!

Greg Lestrade said...

That's really good news, yeah.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm sure you don't need luck, Danger! You'll do great.

Greg Lestrade said...

(you should all Google the word 'gay', by the way.)

REReader said...

Ha, that's great!

(The Prop 8 decision doesn't look quite as important, but it does one very important thing--it establishes that, legally speaking, no matter how much someone does not like gay marriage, they suffer no harm and can't bring lawsuits against it, period.)

Greg Lestrade said...

(All of you who did now need to report to Nanny John and explain why you broke the 'If Lestrade says it, don't Google it' rule. You might get lines. Or have to sit on the naughty step.)

I...might be heading home within the next half hour!

Small Hobbit said...

And for once when L mentions something it is totally safe to google it ;)

John H. D. Watson said...

Excellent. :) Not too late at all.

pandabob said...

I can't say I've ever followed that rule but at least today I didn't regret it ;-)

I'm glad you're nearly done for the day Greg and I hope dinner is smelling good John :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

I only said might...still got a few things to do. But soon!

Greg Lestrade said...

Leaving! Hope I haven't messed up dinner.

Trills said...

Lestrade, if I was you I'd bring home some Ice Cream. John's going to need it.
(Federer got knocked out)

Greg Lestrade said...

Federicorn is out? I...Sherlock, cheer John up for me? I'll just be...busy. Tell me when he's happy again....

Sherlock said...

He doesn't know he's fighting with the fish and recording it. YOU tell him.

Greg Lestrade said...

recording the fight? for evidence?

...Right. I'm on the way up to tell him. Can you at least remove all sharp knives and stuff from the kitchen?

REReader said...

Very prudent!

(Both of you... :))

Sherlock said...

Recording the tennissss not the fish.

You're being silly he'll just sigh do that face.

Greg Lestrade said...

He did indeed sigh and pull a face. But at me asking where the video camera was that he was recording his cookery with.

I honestly thought you meant he was recording his cookery, like Titli or something!

I'm too scared to tell him about the tennis.

John H. D. Watson said...

He's seen the blog anyway, you know. I do keep my phone in my pocket generally.

People should pay money to see the epic battle I waged with that fish.

Greg Lestrade said...

Didn't think you'd be looking with fishy-fingers :)

I'd pay money for videos of you. Although...fish isn't really my kink.

John H. D. Watson said...

I'd really like to keep believing it's not anyone's kink.

Anonymous said...

I think The Simpsons dealt with that, as far as I recall Troy McLure slept with the fishes...

Greg Lestrade said...

Everything is a kink for someone.

You just reminded me, with your Federicorn-face, that I told Sal something today, when she was eating her lunch, and she was so surprised a chunk of egg fell out of her mouth. I cried with laughter.

John H. D. Watson said...

I'm afraid and yet compelled to ask...

Greg Lestrade said...

she hit me for laughing, tried to make me promise not to tell the blogs.

sadly I can't tell you what it was! Just the way her mouth opened and a perfect bit of boiled egg leapt for freedom.

REReader said...

...

And how was your day, Sherlock? How are the chicks and tadpoles doing? And has Argon recovered from her adventure?

Sal said...

You are a bastard, Sir.

John, it involved a man, a large quantity of warm dough and a suspected heart attack. And a very horrible joke made by the DI.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha!

Greg Lestrade said...

He was a baker. I just commented that I wouldn't want to sample some of his wares.

John H. D. Watson said...

At least it was his own dough.

Greg Lestrade said...

I could get behind a dough fetish, I think...

John H. D. Watson said...

I'm not really surprised...

Although if it's between that and fish, I think the choice is obvious.

Greg Lestrade said...

But you shouldn't mix business and pleasure :)

pandabob said...

you're such a nice boss aren't you Greg ;-)

I'm glad you're all having a fun evening :-)

It is off topic, but I saw Neil Gaiman last night and he signed my book and that was lovely and I spent all day in a Gaiman aura of happiness, and then on my way home I crashed my bike (again) and now I'm bleeding from all four limbs (but nothing is broken and I didn't hit my head so I think I just need to lie here and feel sorry for myself for a minute).

Sorry to post here but I know if I post in any of my public places all my friends will freak out about me crashing and I don't want anyone freaking out but I wanted to say "Hey I crashed and everything hurts" somewhere….thank you for letting it be here.

REReader said...

Ow, ella! Feel better soon, and I hope you really have taken no serious harm.

And yay on your Gaiman encounter! I've heard he's very nice to fans.

Anonymous said...

Thanks, RR. :) I'm definitely going to be sore tomorrow…we'll see how badly.

Gaiman was, indeed, extremely nice. And it's early in the signing tour, so he wasn't completely exhausted yet.

Anonymous said...

Also just played the post-crash shower game of "Dirt, or Bruise?" …Not as much dirt as I was hoping for.

rsf said...

Ouch. I hope you can sleep tonight, Ella. And aren't too stiff tomorrow!

Sorry about the tennis too, John. I hope there are some good matches from new people in the offing!

Greg Lestrade said...

Hope you get the chance to take time to take care of yourself, Ella. Buy yourself a nice cake or a bunch of flowers from us ;)

Small Hobbit said...

Hope you don't ache quite as much as you feared this morning (when it is morning for you), Ella.

We'll stand you a drink or two (tea, coffee, alcohol, whatever you like).

Anonymous said...

Aww thanks everyone. Lestrade, I now have an image of you saying "buncha flowers!" in an Eddie Izzard voice. :) My knee is really stiff (and purple) this morning, but everywhere else is basically okay.

Mmmm.....coffee. Thanks, small hobbit.

-Ella (who can't sign in on her phone)

John H. D. Watson said...

game of "Dirt, or Bruise?"

Always a fun game. I hope you're doing all night. And that is pretty amazing, getting to see Neil Gaiman in person.

Anon Without A Name said...

Late to the party, but Ella, hope you're feeling much better now. And I'm only a little bit* jealous of you seeing Neil Gaiman.

*may be an underestimate

Greg Lestrade said...

Hope today treated you right Ella!

I'll confess to only vaguely knowing who Neil Gaiman is. But I'm glad you met him :)

Cheers, everyone. In case anyone was curious, embarking on a 12-hr workday mostly on your feet the day after you've wrecked yourself does not make for the happiest day, but is an opportunity to take a detailed inventory on what's injured vs what's just hurting. (Also an opportunity to discover which coworkers are visually observant and/or inquire about bruises and/or assume I have a partner who hits me.)

I'm trying to remain in the mindset of: I didn't hit my head, or my face, or break anything, and I didn't fall into traffic, and I got to meet Neil Gaiman, and ibuprofin exists for a reason, so everything is fine, and I shouldn't be whiny (but, of course, I'm kind of whiny).
