Jump up, look around, Find yourself some fun

Mrs N's visit was largely unremarkable. John and I managed to both make each other panic and calm each other down before she arrived, and I don't think either of disgraced ourselves during :)

She enjoyed the baking, and was very impressed how much Sherlock knew about it. But when she asked if he wanted to be a cook when he grew up he scowled and said "No, Lestrade does that." So apparently I'm safe in my job as dinner-provider to him for some time yet.

She was also very impressed at how much reading John does with Sherlock, and says it shows as he's pretty advanced even for their school.

But, as we knew, the areas he needs to pay more attention to in class are being patient, giving others a turn, not monopolising things and not getting so frustrated when other kids don't understand or master things as fast as he does.

But the school are working on all those things too. So between all of us, we'll get there.

Mrs N was also impressed about how he cares for the degus, and how much he knows about them.

Overall she said he was a lovely boy, and an asset to the school, which I've got to admit made both me and John swell up with pride a bit, I think.

I've got work over the weekend, which Sherlock has already declared 'not fair', but we're going to go and see Mycroft together, and I'm sure Sherlock will be proud to share what Mrs N said with his big brother.

Mycroft's busy with all his schoolwork, but he says it's not too much and that he's enjoying it. And that he has time for us to take him out to dinner!

And now, I have no idea how it got that late...but I'm off to bed.

Sleep well! I'm glad the visit went well, and I hope there are plenty of biscuits and things left for Mycroft.

There were when I left... but who knows how many will survive the day!

Have a great weekend guys; Mycroft I hope they leave you some of the biscuits.

I'm off on holiday this afternoon (sunshine here we come), so Lestrade/Watson/Holmes and everyone else on here, take care until I get back :)

Have a great time, SH.

Sherlock said...

Lestrade I need those chocolate sprinkles in the shape of stars to put on Mycroft's biscuits because he likes stars and the stupid shop I went to with John only had boring sprinkles and pleeeeeeaaaaaase.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, I'll stop and get some on the way home, as you've been so good and Mrs N was so impressed with you - and because it's something nice you're doing for Mycroft.

You up to anything fun?

Have a lovely time SH!

Lestrade - sounds like Mrs N's visit was a success :-)

Everyone having good days today, I hope?

John H. D. Watson said...

Will the sprinkles stick to pre-baked biscuits?

SH - have fun!

Sherlock said...

I'm going to stick them on I'll be REALLY quick with just some water icing like Lestrade showed me that's really easy and I'll do them even before Lestrade's ready to go again I PROMISE.

Water icing?

rsf

Sherlock said...

It's icing you make just with boiling water and icing sugar and you can make it with coffee or lemon or other things or just alone and I'd just make it the easiest alone way to stick on all the chocolate stars because I can sprinkle them on and then it dries and they stick.

Anonymous said...

Very useful to know! Thank you, Sherlock.

Sherlock said...

It's good because it's easy except I have to have John or Lestrade pour out the boiling water but then I can spoon it into the icing sugar if I'm really careful and you can put food colouring in it and it goes really bright. I'm making Mycroft's biscuits blue.

Greg Lestrade said...

I think it's very nice you want to personalise Mycroft's biscuits, Sherlock.

Sherlock said...

We need cheese too I think John ate it all.

John H. D. Watson said...

I didn't eat it all. Other people helped.

Greg Lestrade said...

Ha, all right, cheese and chocolate, no problem.

Sherlock said...

It was mainly John he's bigger than me and eats more.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm sure it was, Kiddo. Any particular requests for cheese-types? Or anything else you want to take to Mycroft?

Sherlock said...

That black bread and blue cheese and also ice cream.

Greg Lestrade said...

Ice cream for us? Because I don't think Mycroft has anywhere to store it...

Sherlock said...

For meeeee!

Greg Lestrade said...

Right. Will do. Hope you're ready to go.

Sherlock said...

I have all the biscuit things ready!

Greg Lestrade said...

Okay!

I'll be home as soon as I can escape the clutches of the Yard, then the supermarket...

...and not getting so frustrated when other kids don't understand or master things as fast as he does.

Perhaps when he learns a bit more patience (hard for lots of people to learn, let alone someone of that age, I know) he can perhaps tutor the other kids? If they're all amenable to it, of course.

pandabob said...

have a great time visiting Mycroft guys, I hope he appreciates the effort you've put into his biscuits Sherlock :-)

Sherlock said...

Come oooooooon I'm ready with the biscuits and John just ate one!

That was me saying "thank you" earlier, but I was going out sailing and I didn't notice that I forgot to sign the post.

Water icing and sprinkles really does sound like a wonderful way to make boring cookies less boring. What are the proportions of sugar and water? I think I might be able to do it at the library, since we have a microwave and a water cooler that can make hot water It would be a really fun activity for our Halloween party, because I can get sprinkles in all sorts of shapes this time of year.

I hope you're on your way by now! Or maybe even there and back again, since it's pretty much dinner time on my side of the Atlantic already.

I didn't do icing and Mycroft's here because Lestrade's gone and EVERYTHING'S STUPID

?! *checks the other blog* OH...

I'm sorry, Sherlock. I didn't read John's entry before I answered this one.

I hope Lestrade is found, or gets away, soon.

Mycroft said...

I'm sorry, he didn't mean to be rude.

He is just very upset and angry, as I'm sure you'll understand.

pandabob said...

how are you doing Mycroft?

Mycroft said...

I'm okay, thank you. Worried, of course.

pandabob said...

You're such a strong young man Mycroft.

I hope Lestrade is home soon.

ryo said...

Sounds like things are going well for both Sherlock and Mycroft at school. Nice that you're going to get to run up and see Mycroft and take him cookies.

When I was probably Sherlock's age or younger, I used to get really frustrated when other kids didn't get things, also -- apparently I thought they were just pretending not to understand. I understood, so of course they did too, but why would you act like you didn't get?

To this day it still sometimes surprises me that knowledge I take for granted is not knowledge that everyone has.

ryo said...

Oh no! Didn't see what had happened. I hope Lestrade is okay and that you find him quickly!

I don't really know where to put this and I know right now you probably can't see it but I want to put it somewhere.

I hope you're ok Greg, I really hope that you are home soon but while you are wherever you are I hope you are as ok as you can be and know that your boys love you lots and everyone here is hoping and praying for you to return home to your family as soon as possible.

Seems pointless to write it right now but I know you'll see it soon :-)

Pandabob I think that's a nice thing to write and here is the best place.

We love you Uncle Orio, I hope you're home soon. I know we don't see you very often but we're still missing you knowing you're not where you belong with John and Mycroft and Sherlock.

Hey, Lestrade, I hope you're back home really soon with your boys I know that Sally and Anthea are moving heaven and earth to find you safe and get you home.

We're all thinking of you, and looking forward to seeing you home soon.

Hi Lestrade, I hope you're okay wherever you are and that you'll be home with your family soon. They love you and miss you lots.

Mazarin said...

Thinking about you a lot today, L, and hope you're okay. Your boys are doing their best to find you, and so is Anthea and Sally and everyone else. Wherever you are, know you're loved and missed.

REReader said...

Like everyone else, I've been thinking about you all day, L--I miss you. I hope you're back where you belong very soon indeed.

Leaving this for you to read when you're back with your boys again, which I hope and trust will be soon.

There have been many, many of us waiting on news of you, sending positive thoughts and hoping that all will be well. And we're as nought to John and Mycroft and Sherlock and Nicky and her family all waiting for you. You need to know how many people care about you.

I have to admit, I keep reloading both blogs in hopes of news. Lestrade, we miss you and hope you are back safe soon. Everyone else, I wish to heaven there was something I could do for you all. I hope that hugs, love and people making you food will bring you some comfort while you wait.

Lestrade said...

thank you, all of you. I'm nearly home safe now.

The other post is nearly at 200 so I'll say congratulations here.

Greg Lestrade said...

Thank you. Although it's everyone else who needs congratulating, really. I just sat in a room for 25 hours.

thank you everyone on here, for caring, for saying kind things to John and the boys and being here. It is important to know there are people like you in the world, as well as people like him. I can't thank you all enough.

pandabob said...

you really are amazing Greg! there is no other word for it!!

I hope the soup filled a corner and that you're feeling a little warmer now.

I'm glad we could all be here for you, John and the boys we are very lucky that you allow us to be.

Greg Lestrade said...

slowly thawing, I think. still shivering. and very tired.

Anonymous said...

Has Sherlock had his biscuits yet? Or did he tip over once he had you safely there?

rsf

Greg Lestrade said...

I think he forgot about them. He has gone to bed. I think we'll see how he is tomorrow, and see about school or not. i hope he sleeps in a bit longer than usual. Mycroft insists he'll be okay to go back in the morning.

I don't know what I want to do. tired but wide awake. not sure my mind is quite convinced it's safe yet. bit all over the place.

John H. D. Watson said...

Do you want tea or anything? I'm going to make some anyway I think. Toast?

Greg Lestrade said...

tea would be nice, thanks. no toast. feel very full after my soup.

pandabob said...

Get back to normal and get on with life is all well and good but from a really selfish point of view Greg after the weekend you've had would you not rather have all your boys together at least for 24 hours? really from your point of view not what you think you should say or feel?

I just think with your mind all over the place as it will be for a bit, keeping everyone where you can see them will help settle things rather than worrying about where they are. (Obviously only short term)

Given that Daley threatened the boys, I'd be nervous about them (and Nicky and the others) till he's caught myself.

I hope it's soon!

rsf

Greg Lestrade said...

I honestly don't know, AnonyBob. I don't want them to do anything they don't want to. I know Anthea will keep Mycroft safe.

I don't know if the threats were really...real, if you get me, or just to mess with me.

I just want everyone to do what they feel is the right thing for themself.

pandabob said...

If anything good has come out of this weekend it has to be that you know that these boys will fight the world for you, and will kill and mame anyone in their path to get you. They have been desperate to 'help' you all weekend and not known what to do. now you're back you can tell them, let them feel useful to you in dealing with this.

I'm not saying what you should do either way BUT what they want to do is what is best for you so just this once let yourself tell them what that is.

(lecture over, sorry I know it's not what you need right now I just worry that you all support each other successfully through this)

Anonymous said...

Even if the threats were just to mess with you while he had you as a captive, I would worry now that he's lost control of the situation and might be more reckless.

rsf

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah believe me, I'm already paranoid about that.

John H. D. Watson said...

I think, unless Mycroft really feels it would interfere with his studies, that I'd prefer to keep both of them home tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

RSF - really? come on, some things you really should not write down

Greg Lestrade said...

we'll talk about it in the morning, yeah, with both of them?

I still need to finish defrosting by getting into bed with a hot doc. maybe fully clothed. in thermals.

Anonymous said...

So, missing a bit of school might be right for Sherlock, and going back to class might be right for Mycroft. You'll know better in the morning. Talk to Sherlock's security team too.

Sigh. I know it's unreasonable, but I really wish I knew how they found you. Not on a public blog with Daley stll loose tho.

Might be awkward if Sherlock has a nightmare.
