Well, we're still celebrating! Still eating, still drinking, still being given presents, unbelievably - people are far too kind.
Went to Jo and Lisa's today, for tea. We took festive spider-biscuits... they survived an afternoon of non-stop interrogation by Sherlock about...well, everything. Guess he's missing school, really. He very proudly wore his boots.
Jo and Lisa gave me a photo of John. Captures him perfectly, I think:
Which I'll be very very happy to have with me at work.
Sherlock, of course, is far more excited by his present from Molly...
I...er...well, I'm glad he knows a girl who knows these things exist! He's been staring into it for hours...just like I'll do with my picture!
Can't really believe another year's nearly gone...

That's a great picture, just perfect for keeping at work :-)
I'm glad you're still having fun I hope good times continue for a long time yet for all of you.
Thanks AnonyBob. It is just perfect.
Hope you're surviving the holidays too!
I'll be happy to get home Greg but the kids are having almost as good a time as Sherlock sounds to be, they haven't had any presents close to as interesting as the comparative hearts though!
I hope you're all having a great evening :-)
You're right, Lestrade, that photo is just lovely :-)
Glad to hear you're all having an excellent, long-lasting Christmas!
Molly's great. And obviously knows the way to Sherlock's heart. Hearts...
Sherlock's lucky to know someone who even knows such things exist!
Nameless - isn't it? Captures him perfectly. Managing to look gorgeous yet modest at the same time!
The hearts are great I made space to put them on my bookshelves.
Can we get my motorbike helmet tomorrow PLEEAASE.
I think we can manage that, yeah. You've been very patient.
Except you should be in bed already! Sleep now, and we'll see about going to the shop in the morning.
Just remember, it has to fit you right - and we'll be checking - not just be sparkly/the colour you want. More important it protects you than looks good.
They should have FLAMES like my boots!
Bed!
Okayyyyyy.
Does this mean he's tall enough now?
Pick a good safe helmet Sherlock there are a lot of people really quite attached to you :-) sleep well.
Mmm...means he'll be ready when he is. I refuse to say anything now which he'll hold in evidence against me!
I'm so glad he likes his boots. Honestly, if you lot knew the hours and hours John and I spent looking at bike boots for kids. Colours, styles...because if he didn't like them he certainly wouldn't be too shy to tell us!
Loudly, forcefully, and repeatedly... I'm glad he likes them too. And they don't even have glitter.
I thought I'd missed it somewhere sorry, I would never try and get you in sticky situations with him at least not over something this important ;-)
I guess the boot thing just goes to show how well you know him, well done both of you :-)
No, he was just so desperate to get his jacket...may as well have it all. He is growing at an alarming rate. He will definitely be too big to sit on my shoulders soon.
Boots make you taller, you know.
He really is a Dr Hotson, isn't he?
That's a great pic of Doc. Glad to hear you all had a good holiday. Hope your New Year's is just as good. :)
Cheers, DW.
Anon - he is!
Currently trying to calm down Sherlock and dogs, who are all far too excitable for this flat.
I would like to apologise to any customer service operative who may ever have the misfortune of dealing with my brother.
Is he embarrassing you again, Mycroft?
I'm not particularly embarrassed, but I dont believe any job in retail pays enough to deal with him.
Lestrade and John are attempting a basic lesson in compromise. I'm not sure it's sinking in.
At least this showroom has lots to look at while I wait.
Dropping by belatedly to wish you all a merry Christmas - sounds like you all had a very lovely few days.
Mycroft: while you wait you might like http://www.lookforlonger.com - not sure if you've already seen it but it's terribly addictive.
Have you been watching the Royal Institution Christmas lectures? I caught last night's and thinking that Sherlock might enjoy it; the content might be a bit basic for him but the demonstrations are fun to watch, in a don't-try-this-at-home way.
Right. We are there. Things which can be compromised - sparkles, flames, skulls, colour. Things which cant - fit.
Sherlock is now kitted out.
We went to a restaurant last night that served glitter pizza (it had edible green glitter on it) and I thought of Sherlock, of course.
Glad you are all having good holidays. <3
I want glitter pizza!
You can make glitter pizza, unless you've used up all the glitter.
What does your helmet that fits look like, Sherlock? Is it black to match your jacket?
rsf
My jacket isnt just black it's got a stripe too in cream because that's better. John and Lestrade and Mycroft are going out on the bikes and it's NOT FAIR because I've got all my things and I should be allowed to go but I've got to go out with Mrs Hudson
Soon Sherlock :-) but growing isn't all good so try not to be in too much of a hurry.
Have fun with Mrs hudson :-)
Hey, kiddo, Mycroft's been veery patient all morning while we do things for you, yeah? Now be good while we do something for him.
Another very important part of being allowed on the back of the bike is doing what you're told, and behaving well. Otherwise it could be dangerous.
Going out with Mrs Hudson sounds like more fun than staying in with Mrs Hudson. Are you going to visit anyplace interesting, Sherlock?
And are the rest of you going anyplace interesting, or are you just going for the sake of going? :D
rsf
Just going for the sake of it. John needs more wet weather experience. Nothing like a cold rainy day for a ride...
And the weather would have trouble getting wetter and more unpleasant than this, so we've picked the ideal day.
I don't know where we're going. It's not fair I wouldn't mind the rain.
We're near Mycroft's school and Mrs Hudson won't say why and when I asked she said I was going to stay there because they were taking me early but she was only joking even though I could if I wanted because I'm just as smart as Mycroft.
We'd be lonely if you were both off at school though, Sherlock.
I wonder what she's got planned for you?
You would not, you would just kiss and be soppy and boring ALL THE TIME. I know you know, telll meeeeeeeeeee!
All i know is that Mrs H is a very kind person. So I'm sure it'll be something good.
If anyone in the South-East sees a small object with flames at the bottom going stratospheric, it's probably my little brother.
And here I was, going to offer Sherlock sympathy for having to wait for a dry day to try out his new gear. I hope he comes down and tells us what lit the rocket eventually!

Well, John needed to practice with Mycroft riding pillion somewhere with quiet roads...so then i had a space on the back of my bike. Wondered for a moment who we knew with all the right kit...and whose helmet i just happened to have with me...
I have never known anyone to be so happy about riding pillion in such horrific weather.
This might be the most excited I've ever seen him about anything.
(Sherlock, I mean...although L is pretty gleeful too, especially considering the weather.)
Hooray! *does the dance*
rsf
Just knowing how happy you all are makes me smile too!
You really are amazingly nice to each other. What a lovely way to spend some time :-)
Good luck getting him off ;-)
I don't know what we'd have done with Master Mycroft and Master Sherlock if it hadn't been for the Doctor and the Inspector, honest to goodness I don't.
I'd have been run ragged and wouldn't have had a hope of keeping those brains of theirs occupied.
I think they're all lucky to have one another, and I'm lucky to have them all, keeping me young!
They're lucky to have you to help with the plotting and to occupy the boys when they need time for themselves Mrs Hudson. In truth you make a pretty good five :-)
Has Sherlock turned blue yet? I hope you've got a hot dinner waiting for you all after a long wet day.
He never wants to stop... but I'm soaked and cold. But then all I am to him is the mechanism which makes the bike go, and something to hold onto - and a large windbreak!
Yeah, I think it's about time to head home. Apart from getting warm and dry, we probably need to start now if we want him any calmer at all by bedtime.
Looks like you're all having a lot of fun biking! Arrive home safely - and tea always helps when you're cold.
And I'd like to mention that the picture is really great.
Tina
It sounds like a brilliant day! I hope you are all warm and dry and slightly calmer now. Have a good evening!
So did Mrs Hudson have a go riding pillion? ;-)
Oh, not with my hip, dear.
What a wonderful treat for... well, everyone, by the sounds of it - even if everyone did get cold and wet by the end of it. You guys are so good with those boys (and Mrs H - you're a star).
It was THE BEST and I held onto Lestrade really tightly and we went fast and I want to ride all the time
That sounds fantastic Sherlock! I'm glad you had such a good time, especially on such a cold, wet day.
It was really lovely of John and Lestrade to plan it for you, and Mrs Hudson, too, making it a surprise for you :-)
(Lestrade - my new laptop spell checker wants to change your name to "Astraddle"...)
It sounds great, if cold. What was the best part and what was the trickiest part, Sherlock? Did you get cold, too?
Mrs H, maybe they can get a sidecar for you someday. Although even one of those might be tricky with a hip!
rsf
You were very well behaved, Sherlock, well done. I'm proud of you for being so good, despite being so excited.
Kate L - Sherlock and I just finished that 'Look Longer' thing - very good! Although It didn't really calm him down, because he got so excited when he got one!
Can John drive me to school on his bike every day now when it's time for school again?
It was cold but I didn't mind and I still want it to snowwwwww.
You need to ask John, Sherlock. He needs to be confident that he's okay to have you riding pillion. So maybe practice with me a bit first, and let John practice having Mycroft on the back of his bike, and then I'm sure he'll take you to school sometimes - not every day though. The walk does you good.
And you definitely can't ride in the snow.
We can practice a lot before school starts again!
We can practice a bit, but I've got to go to work too, and sleep.
Sherlock is now sulking mildly over the fact that we're not prepared to ride 24 hours a day in all weather.
We should clearly work a shift pattern. Never see one another. Just ride.
Constantly. He can sleep on the back of the bike if necessary, right?
Have to fashion a thing like those harnesses for babies... you know, to keep him safe.
I'm actually surprised his hands unclenched after today. I did think he might be stuck to me forever.
I can't believe how big he's gotten. Wish I had a picture of the first time you sat him on your bike.
Yeah. I could pick him up with one arm when we first met him! Now he's like...yeah, big.
I know we were joking earlier...but I really will miss him if he decides to go to boarding school. It'd be so quiet in term time.
What a lovely surprised. :)
Me too. And Mycroft will probably be at university by then and home even less.
Jesus..I hadn't even thought of that.
Mycroft, Sherlock, can you just put growing up on hold for a bit? I'm enjoying having you two around too much.
I'll still come home for holidays. And to help you find Sherlock when he runs off to join the circus, or a scientific expedition to study enormous insects in South America.
If he runs off to join the circus, or study enormous insects, then as long as he's happy I'm sure we won't mind. We'll just want postcards.
I'm glad you'll still come home. Even when we're old an boring? :)
Even if he does it when he's thirteen?
Living here has been many things, but never boring.
...oh, right, yeah, not when he's thirteen. Christ, you'd be twenty then.
We need to stop talking about this, I'm feeling old just thinking about it!!
And I hope...most of those things are good. And that if they ever weren't, you'd tell us.
We could continue growing up, and you could stop aging instead. I think that would work better.
They were nearly all good, yes. Please don't get kidnapped again though.
That's an excellent plan. We'll do that.
I will try not to. Although I didn't exactly plan it the first time. But I do still spend a lot of time thinking of ways to avoid it in the future.
So do I.
Well, don't dwell on it.
Which I know sounds stupid, given that I still do. But short of fitting me with a tracker...I don't know what anyone could've done to get to me any faster.
I think preventing it entirely would've been optimal, in my case as well as yours. It's hard not to think about it sometimes.
Yeah, definitely.
You can always talk to us, y'know? Any time.
I know. Thank you.
