Sherlock ate this today:
Yes, that's glitter on it. Lots of multi-colour glitter.
It was actually so nice we bought one... he's been staring at it longingly ever since.
He made John and I these amazing bracelets this afternoon. I was practicing guitar, John was reading up something about FME-ing. He was in his room, being quiet... and yeah, he'd made string bracelets, each with things on them that are relevant to us. Mine's got a piece of lego, a nut, a guitar pick, a little stone, a little leather tag from something, one of my spare earrings, one of the nozzles for icing we never use because we don't like the shape - it's just amazing. He's put so much thought into making them, and all because we talked about what exchanging rings meant to us, and he decided he wanted in on a similar idea.
John's pretty much decided he'll go on the FME course on the 11th - so a week of just me and Sherlock! It's...daunting. And exciting. And I know we'll both miss John like mad.
And then John comes home the same evening as Mycroft gets home for half term, so it'll go from just two of us to a full house in one night. I hope it'll make it a bit easier for Sherlock, knowing he has all that to look forward to once he's put up with me for the week. Plus I know John will miss him too, so it's nice they'll have the week to have time together, and with Mycroft, too!

Hope you two have fun while I'm gone. I'll miss you.
We'll miss you twice as much ;)
I'm sure we'll have fun. And we'll try to keep the flat standing for your return.
Mrs H says she can step in if there are any emergencies at work. Sal says she wouldn't dare get between a boy and his DI...
Ha. You're in good hands, clearly...
Sherlock asked me if you'd go away more if he was good or bad...
Those bracelets sound really lovely, so much thought put into ever part of them :-)
A week on your own with Sherlock will be good fun Greg I'm sure.
I'm glad you're going to do the course John the way you've talked about the idea it seems like its something that you'll find very interesting.
He did really, really well. And he's made them really beautifully and obviously put a lot of care into doing them.
(I did, by the way, explain that his behaviour had no bearing on either of us going away, and we'd only do it when we had to.)
if you'd go away more if he was good or bad...
Hmm...not sure how to take that...
he seemed satisfied with my answer. As satisfied as he ever is with anyof our answers...
well explained Greg, that's always a tricky one!
I hope you're both getting some time to relax after your fun filled day :-)
Gregory Lestrade, I remember you asking Mum a similar question about her boyfriend, Keith. She said you'd drive him off if you were horrible, so you said you'd be extra-extra horrible. And it worked! But then he wasn't exactly nice himself.
I know Sherlock would never want to be horrible to you or John, and that you wouldn't leave anyway.
Ha.
Sherlock might just be excited to have me out of the house so he and Lestrade can eat crisp sandwiches all day...
Ta, Nicks. And no, Sherlock, if you read this - it won't work.
He isn't excited about having you out of the house. He occasionally gets excited, then realises he still has school, I still have work, and has to put his plans for world take-over or the next moon-shot on hold and gets grumpy because he wants to go with you.
Yeah. Life is hard when you're seven. And no doubt unfair.
I think there's a limit to how unfair life can be when people buy you glittery chocolate orange cake :-)
Danger - you wait until you tell him what you've been learning about - I'll get GBH of the earhole with how unfair it is that he couldn't miss school to do the course with you!
Nameless - there is indeed! It was very nice though ;)
I'm trying to imagine him on the course with me now... No doctor would be safe from his interrogation.
You'd be there a lot longer than a week. And the course leader would need to go on a course to cope...
Or just retire...
Ha! You'll just have to give him the highlights each night.
I'll do my best!
you'll have to call and read me a bedtime story every night, too. Otherwise I'll never sleep...
It doesn't have to be about murders, does it?
I'd really prefer it if it weren't.
Excellent. I'd prefer that too.
Mm. You can practice with one now. when did it get so late?
When we were secretly eating glitter cake after Sherlock went to bed?
...he's going to leap on you in the morning for that.
He'd notice some was gone anyway. Mmm, glitter cake.
it is so good...very moist. I might get a warrant for the recipe
I think you should. We need it in large quantities.
it's made with almond flour...I know that much.
How can you tell?
My highly advanced tastebuds, domestic Godliness....
or maybe I asked the baker...
Oh...hush. I thought maybe you could just tell! Somehow.
Is it time for bed?
damn, should have pretended.
Yeah, probably. You're the Nanny - you tell me :) You need to train me up, with all your Nanny-ish powers.
Ha. Yeah, I would've believed you.
My powers...hm. Well, I'm saying it's time for bed then, since neither of us can stop yawning. Come on, up you get, go and brush your teeth and I'll know if you didn't.
That glitter cake sounds delicious, if not precisely sleep inducing! :)
Sherlock--I know you're asleep now (or at least, I hope you are!), but I wanted to say that those bracelets were an absolutely wonderful idea, and you carried that idea out in a beautiful, thoughtful, creative, and individual way. Well done indeed!
Oh, hey, we had snow last night! (Not enough to make even a snowball with, but the cars and sidewalks have a coating of white ice on them. :))
Are you all having a lazy day to balance out your busy one yesterday, or are you out and about again? Either way, I hope your day is as good or better as Saturday! :)
I looked for a shirt to wear for Jo and Lisa's wedding but I haven't chosen one yet.
It can be hard to chose the right thing for a big event. Have you narrowed it down at all?
Lestraaaaade can we make macaroons I neeeeeeed to.
ooookkkaaaaaay
Well...they're resting. Not sure how they'll turn out. Certain people got a bit free and easy with their weights and measures...and piping bags.
But was fun had? :)
that's the best way to bake I would say :-)
Although the even better bit is the eating ;-)
I think fun was had... He's disappeared off to be with the degus, because after the mixing and adding ingredients is done, the washing up and cooking is the boring bit, and he'll return when the smell of cooking is here again.
John will hover and glare at things in the oven...
It's my job.
well, as you're there, if you prod one gently, has it formed a skin? If it has, we can put them in the oven.
I think so yeah.
:) It's nice when everyone knows just what their role is!
next time we should make coffee flavour ones.
And pistachio.
Sure thing. I was planning on making different ones today...but Sherlock was set on Chocolate orange flavour, so, that's what we got.
Chocolate orange will be delicious I'm sure. Pistachio will be green though.
...well, they smell lovely. Bit of a dry mix though, cracks in the top...fix that next time.
If they're green, does that mean they're healthy?
Nice thought... I just like the idea of a green dessert.
Mmm. Can make some minty ones, too.
You know my knee?
I'm familiar with it...
...it still kind of hurts, a bit. Should it?
I'll look at it. How much is a bit on a scale of one to ten?
I think it looks totally normal. It only hurts when I walk. The rest of the time it's fine. I mean, so usually, zero, but sometimes...well, the other day walking about when I was in court, yeah, pretty bad. Made me feel a bit sick.
And today? Better, worse, the same?
Bit better? I sort of forget about it when it doesn't hurt.
Well, let me look at it anyway.
My body is all yours.
By the way, Sherlock said you have to take Spider away with you to keep you company, and that he'll eat your pancakes on pancake day for you.
I somehow knew spider would be coming with me... I do occasionally wish she came in a travel size.
Heh. Very kind of him, I'm sure.
what's your favourite on pancake day I'll have that unless it's yucky you have to say sweet and savoury because we're just having pancakes all day nothing else.
Hmm... hard to decide. What do you like?
Can I put in a vague idea that we might not eat pancakes all day and nothing else...
we DO! It's called pancake DAY.
I like berries - bananas and blueberries and maple syrup and sugar and lemon and cream and chocolate and then cheese and Lestrade will probably make me have spinach and bacon.
you could have
Breakfast - pancakes with stewed fruit and yogurt
Lunch - Salad and cheese wraps made with savoury pancakes
Dinner - bacon pancakes followed by pancakes with ice cream and sugar and lemon and syrup etc.
a perfectly balanced diet ;-)
You can eat spinach and bacon for me, that sounds good.
L - heh. Are you sure...?
I'm fairly sure that a lot of things I plan on happening or not happening is just wishful thinking and everything will go to hell in a handcart the moment you walk out the door :)
I'm sure you'll do perfectly fine, or at least as well as I do!
Thanks :) I'm sure we'll muddle through somehow. And send you messages when we get stuck...or when I'm being unfair...
You mean like when you don't let him eat ONLY PANCAKES FOREVER on pancake day?
Yeah, or make him go to school, or eat a banana when he's decided he can't eat anything yellow on a Tuesday...or send him to bed... a million reasons :)
Yeah...I'll expect to hear from you often then. :)
I know he'll call you a lot, because he'll miss you, and be looking for reasons to call you - and what better reason than protesting against injustices??
And checking if I've seen any dead people yet. I fear this course is not going to go quite how he's picturing it.
I hesitate to mention it, but it is not unheard if to call someone for no other reason than you want to... ;)
Unheard Of. *sigh*
How's the knee? And do the macaroons taste as good as they smell?
err...no, but it is unheard of (practically) for Sherlock to admit he'll miss anyone. Hence, like it does with Mycroft, he'll probably make up odd reasons to call instead.
Danger - I'm not sure much on this Earth goes the way Sherlock pictures it. But then, the glimpses I've had of his mind, it's probably safer for the rest of us that way :)
"Just because you want to" doesn't have to mean "because I miss you"! But no doubt you're quite correct about the internal translator. :)
L - yeah. Otherwise no one would be able to get to work, what with all the fog machines and giant bats and zombies all over the place.
RR - He definitely won't be calling just because he wants to without prior permission, or he'll just spend the entire time trying to listen in on John's classes... Danger, mobile phones will be banned, right? Or at least on silent, when you're in lectures, I hope :)
And yes - the world might be more...interesting. But it would make going to the park for cake and fun harder, with all the zombies, wolves, all that to contend with.
Especially if the giant bats, wolves and zombies had eaten the cake before you got there.
RR - knee still hurts, macaroons do taste fairly good, yeah.
SH - Well exactly! Or the bears...
I'm sorry your knee still hurts. :(
And if the macaroons will work with coffee flavor, I will make them for Purim! (We are going with a coffee theme this year--everything we are giving is coffee- or mocha-flavored. My mother is into themes. I am into yummy. :))
...At least on vibrate, yeah.
I think Sherlock is slowly grasping that when you are still a child what you 'want' to do and what you will be permitted to do are two rather different things.
Really very slowly, given his occasionally impressive intellect.
I shall try not to make you vibrate too often ;)
Mycroft - that still falls into his 'ignore it and it might go away' category :)
hey Mycroft, I hope school is treating you well :-)
RR - no reason they wouldn't work with coffee that I can think of.
:)
(Which is not a nag for the recipe--I guarantee I don't have time to bake in the next week or more!)
It's only a recipe from the internet, Sherlock found it.
Could I have the link, please?
...still find it odd when crowds at sports events aren't segregated. And I'm not staying up for superbowl... bed time, I think.
...Segregated? By teams, you mean? How would you even do that? :?
Good night!
Sleep well, gents :-)
home end and away end are standard practice for most things here RR
I hope you sleep some Gentlemen :-)
This one, except we put in about 70g of cocoa to make up some of the icing sugar weight, to make them chocolatey.

In this country, mainly for football, supporters occupy different parts of the stadium, kept apart by fencing and large gaps - to try to prevent missiles being thrown. And away supporters are often kept in the stadium after the game for a while to avoid clashes in the street outside - depending on the teams. Legacy of all the violence, of which I've seen a lot. It's getting better, slowly.
ReRe: at football matches in the UK and Europe, fans from different teams are seated in different stands or seating areas.
Thanks!
It's not something I've heard of over here. (Of course, I've never been to a baseball game or a football game myself, but I think I'd have heard of that sort of seating. Maybe at college football?)
Well if your sports fans have never had a decent sideline in killing each other, or rioting, there would be no need for it.
Our whole family was segregated, L. The animal lovers went to Grandma's house to watch the puppy bowl (I have NO IDEA), hubster stayed home to watch the pre-game coverage, and I went to the opera.
Sadly, the game started just before I got home.
Ha, Kestrel!
L, like I said, maybe college football games then. Although they seem to more destroy neighborhoods than attack each other, going by the occasional new stories! (I suppose it would be unbearably silly to say that it's only a game, so I won't.)
Weirdly, although it seems perfectly normal to have football fans segregated at matches here, it always freaks me out a bit to see fans fenced in at matches played in Europe...
I don't like the high fences - but I doubt many people do, given the history.
Well quite; I can't believe they still use them. Makes me shudder every time I watch a match where they're in use.
Mind you, I can't believe they don't seem to care much about people lighting flares in the middle of the crowd... gives me the willies every time I see that happen.
The college football games I've gone to we weren't segregated, but fans traditionally sat behind the sideline their team staff were on. Some places they may segregate, but I've never been to a place where it was obligatory.
US stadiums went to assigned seating, or at least sectional seating, well before most UK stadiums did, as I understand it, which may help? We've had some crowd crushes but mostly at concerts with large standing room spaces and in crowded clubs. The idea of watching a sports match standing in a large crowd gives me the creeps-- only place I've done it is on the roof deck at Fenway Park, and that just isn't a large crowd.
When I saw pictures of Hillsborough as a kid I didn't understand that stadiums here in the US were mostly designed differently, and I'm still wary of large crowds in small spaces.
I can't imagine a stadium without (at least somewhat) assigned seating--now, THAT I think would cause fights!
My sister took Monday off in order to be able to watch the game, which is a good thing considering it lasted so dang long!
I mostly just watch for the commercials. Or watch the Puppy-bowl.
ReRe: up until Hillsborough, almost all football grounds had at least some standing areas (known as terraces), rather than seated areas. I think some of the lower-league clubs still do, but all-seater stadiums are compulsory for teams in the top two leagues.
Nameless -agreed on the flares. Dangerous, and fills the stadium with smoke so you can't see the game for the next ten mins!
Nice day, eh? Actually been out, felt the warmth of the sun on my face (probably got a tan ;) ) apparently due to get cold again though...
Apparently it has just started raining here. It'll probably reach you in a while.
Mmm, warmth--wanna send some of that our way? It's sunny, but about -3.3C here and windy, and not supposed to get warmer! *shivers*
Enjoy your nice day! :)
it's not warm - just sunny, and warm when the sun hits you out of the wind. I think we're just above freezing though.
The BBC website says it's 10C in London, which sounds warm to me! (We haven't been above freezing for several days and when it's windy out, the cold comes right through the walls. :(. *puts on another sweater*}
Ah, we've got a bit of windchill, apparent temp of 2, so says the Internet.
Our windchill is -10C, so that still sounds good to me!
Stay warm and enjoy your sunshine. :) I've got to shut mine out so I don't blow put of my desk chair. (Insulated curtain liners only help if you draw them, alas.)
By the way, not sure if either you or John watch How I Met Your Mother, but apparently Robin Sparkles is set to be on the show. Just thought of you two when I heard that, lol.
http://www.seattlepi.com/entertainment/tv/tvguide/article/How-I-Met-Your-Mother-Robin-Sparkles-Is-Back-4247806.php
You make it sound horrible - too cold in the winter, too hot in the summer. I'd have moved by now, I think.
Never even heard of it, Pip , but my God, Danger will be over the moon! Thanks for telling us. I bet he'll wear his jacket to watch.
Oh no...
L--They say Manhattan would have perfect weather, if it weren't for all the buildings! But yes, it is too hot in summer and too cold in winter--but most of the US has as bad or worse extremes (not to mention tornados or earthquakes or regular flooding or massive fires), and no one lives in NYC for the weather anyway. ;)
Ha, Pip, great find!
Oh yes! Sherlock and I will make you Sparkles' cupcakes. Mycroft, I'm sure, can get it off the Internet for you to watch. You can wear your jacket, Sherlock can even do your hair all sparkly! It will be BRILLIANT .
You can all have a Robin Sparkles party without me while I'm in Birmingham.
