Sherlock did indeed get his cast today. The doc said the swelling had gone down enough. I'm sort of glad - it's a lot more robust, and Sherlock can't try taking it off to look at his arm.
I think he's thought better of that anyway, now, after they removed his splint and gave him a bit of a clean, he realised it definitely does still hurt.
He was really good though, very brave, said thank you to the people in the plaster room. The cast is a really bright purple. I told him how lucky he was to get a coloured, fibreglass, cast. And somehow agreed I'd have a pink one if I ever needed one...
We went and got lunch after, and dropped in to get a coffee. I got a lovely syphon coffee - from Burundi. It was incredibly tasty. Sherlock wanted me to have another, just so the people had to make another one.
Here it is being made:
Then we headed out and found some glittery nail varnish and pens to write on his cast with, and finally returned home, where Sherlock promptly fell asleep on the sofa. The dogs did a good job of guarding him, or at least, sleeping by him.
Which explains why he wasn't tired at bedtime...
I've decided to have a few days off this week. Just feel like I really need them. So I'll work Monday and Tuesday, then have the rest of the week off to enjoy life.

Excellent news. :)
And did you see the colour pink it was? I think that'd be incentive enough to avoid broken limbs all on its own.
I quite liked it! Not enough to want to break a limb, obviously...and I know I'd get no end of grief if I did actually end up encased in hot pink fibreglass for work, but still. I could get striped? Pink and blue?
But it's SO BRIGHT. You'd need sunglasses to look directly at it. Pink and orange? They should have metallics. You could have a silver one and look like a bit of you had gone robotic.
the silver fox jokes would be even more endless than they currently are.
Gold?
I would have black, if I got a choice. Although I admit it would be cool if they did metallics.
Blue and white checked I'd have thought.
Maybe with a red or orange Jam Sandwich stripe.
Or just plain but a set of John Cooper Mooneyes?

Black would be good. Very Darth Vadery.
You do not know the power of the dark side, Obi Wan Dangeri
I know it turns your lightsaber red...
Or one could have a different look for every day of the week... http://www.castcoverz.com/arm-cast-cover.php
He'd probably love a skull one... but it would cover all his signatures up, so let's hope we can persuade him he doesn't need one. He can always draw skulls on. Or bats, given their role in this entire event...
Delurking...
Thanks for the link RR, I'm getting a cast or two next Wednesday and I've misplaced my cast cover for the bath.
I was going to point out the cast cover idea too -- but for the pink cast of Lestrade's promise. Something to tone down the color while he was at work! (Should the need ever arise.)
L, I can't figure out the picture. I can see that the coffee is on top, but what is all the brightness around the pot? The heating element, or just reflection?
Mycroft, what did you think of the meteor in Russia? And did you watch online as the asteroid went by?
John, I'm glad you're home. Now that you've finished the course, how soon until you use what you learned?
Sherlock, I hope your arm hurts less now that it's in the cast.
rsf
Glad to be of service, Becca--and I hope you won't need a cast for long.
rsf--I was thinking of L's hypothetical (and hopefully never needed) cast as well...but there's no denying that Sherlock would love the skull one, or that a cover would cover up all signatures!
And I also hope your arm hurts less now, Sherlock.
Time off work is a really good thing Greg I'm glad you've been able to sort it out so you can spend some time with your boys :-)
Have a good day whatever you're up to today.
I'm drawing a skull AND crossbones on and YES don't go to work and we can do fun things I bet I could ride on the bike now I've got my cast.
You can't. You wouldn't be able to hold on. We can do other nice things.
RSF - the glare in the heat, yeah. The bulb at the bottom is where the water starts, and the coffee ends and the bit with the coffee in it at the top at the time of the photo is where the grounds are.
Glad to hear that you got your cast yesterday Sherlock. I hope someone takes some pictures of it when you've got everyone's signature, plus all your drawings.
The people who put it on said I could keep it at the end too if they cut it off carefully I asked them if they did it with an angle grinder and they laughed.
It's sunny today and I want to ride my bike and go to the park and go on Lestrade's bike and I can't do ANYTHING and it's stupid
Well, you could go to the park and help walking the dogs? But you´re right, it´s not very interesting having a broken arm. Perhaps you could do something at home?
So it is like a fancy percolater then? I have been told that makes amazing coffee.
Hope you can find some fun cast-friendly adventures for everyone.
We're pushing him on the swings, and the dogs love the roundabout. He just can't clamber on things. He will survive.
So is Mycroft pushing the dogs on the roundabout?
Ha, that is a great image. But no, we push Sherlock around, the dogs give chase, falling over each other a lot.
If I didn't come here because I love hearing about your adventures, I would come here because I learn so much from reading. I mean, in this post: syphon coffee, cast covers, mooneyes on bike helmets, it's really amazing.
I hope you're all working up an appetite for, well, whatever you're planning for dinner. It's nearly time for dim sum over here. Have Sherlock and Mycroft ever had dim sum? I wonder if they would enjoy it.
AftSO
(I really wanted to try putting the dogs on the roundabout, but L and Mycroft wouldn't let me...)
That's very mean of them.
I'm fairly sure the dogs would have fought back
Easy dinner I think. Jacket spuds, cheese, coleslaw, maybe beans? Unless someone has a better idea.
I was going to lure them with...something.
And bacon? :)
Bacon sounds like it would fit right in.
I'm glad your playgrounds still have roundabouts. A lot of them here don't have them anymore.
Also, thank you for the information about the coffee maker. Now that I'm conscious I'll go google it and see if I can figure it out.
rsf
Just ask if you're unsure about the coffee. It is one of my favourite subjects :)
Danger - your arteries will be as hard as Sherlock's cast.
But will they be purple and glittery?
In this flat - probably. I must have glitter in my bloodstream by now.
That's stupid and we should definitely have bacon and the dogs should go on the roundabout
Glitter in the blood could explain sparkly vampires, though... ;) (At least, that makes sense to my migraine-addled brain!)
Are you having a good day, Sherlock? It sounds like the park was fun, even without the dogs getting a ride on the roundabout.
It was okay but I wasn't allowed to climb on the fun things and now I've got mango to eat which is good.
Mmmm, mango! (I like it dried best.)
The dogs, if not supervised, will also eat mango. You learn something new every day.
rsf - how soon until you use what you learned?
Not quite sure yet, but I'll try to talk about it in my next post.
The dogs, if not supervised, will also eat mango.
This is because they didn't get a ride on the roundabout.
Dogs, if unsupervised, will eat almost anything. With a very small almost.
rsf
They do tend to believe that anything a human is eating must be good, probably a fair bet if you're a dog
you all sound like you've had a fun day :-) I'm glad you're managing to have fun even with the limitations.
Have a great evening.
Sherlock will also eat most things when unsupervised.
He's asking if we can put metal studs on his cast now (no).
It would be COOL though and I could bash bad people with it.
There will be no bashing. It would hurt, for a start.
I don't wanna go to work tomorrow.
It's not long until you're off Greg, I know that doesn't really help but I guess time off is someting to look forward to :-)
sorry, breaking up a fight caused by Prof. Brian Cox.
Started with the bit about how gravity has different levels of impact on your life depending on size (Mycroft mentioning Sherlock's recent battle with gravity)...moved on to size vs. how much you need to eat...(Sherlock making a jab about Mycroft's size...)
And I'm trying to listen to the Prof. because I might then have half and idea what the boys talk about!
Your boys have the most intelligent arguments ;-)
I hope all's quiet now and you get some relaxation time.
I'm just glad they were arguing about the thing I was watching, or I would have had no clue what it was all about!
Sherlock is in bed. I think he's sleeping better with his cast on, although he still trails into our room for cuddles too.
I regularly don't know what my two are arguing over and they are only 2 and 5 ;-)
I'm glad Sherlock is sleeping better, he seems to be very grown up in how he's dealing with his arm (most of the time)
He is (most of the time). I think the novelty is wearing off though.
..think I've been asleep on the sofa. Or abducted by aliens and lost an hour.
Asleep. I would've noticed aliens. Probably.
John, I forbid you and the boys from having any form of fun. I miss you all.
Sally apparently got a text from me this morning saying 'Lestrade can't come and do work because aliens have got him so you should do it all'. Which explains Sherlock's insistence that I really didn't need to go to work today this morning.
What a brilliant idea, Sherlock! Real pity it didn't work :-(
Sally isn't so sure it was a brilliant idea ;) but even she gives him points for trying!
Is there a box on the Met's 'Return to Work' form for Alien Abduction?
Lancs. Anon
I expect it's okay so long as they sign in triplicate and provide a copy of the risk assessment form they filled out prior to abduction.
Alien abduction would certainly explain glitter in the blood.
You are all silly
we went to the cheese shop and the man let me taste some new cheese and we bought some and he signed my cast and he asked if I'd been in an ambulance and I said NO but I want to next time!
How are they silly when you started it?
And let's hope there isn't a next time, hey? You've been in a police car. That's better than an ambulance, believe me.
Hope you three are enjoying the sunshine.
YOU started it
The problem with ambulance rides is that when you get one it means you hurt too much to enjoy it.
rsf
A cheese shop! How brilliant, I wish there were cheese shops around here but we've just had to make do with looking at fish and seals and otters all day.
I hope works treating you ok Greg :-)
Fish and seals and otters? Where are you, anonybob?
rsf
We were at a sea life sanctuary RSF, its the holidays and if we don't do at least one water related thing everyday the kids won't believe its a holiday ;-)
Smart kids! Having a theme must make it easier to plan your holiday excursions. But I hope it wasn't as cold there as it is here!
rsf
I'm really sorry to hear about your arm, Sherlock. :(
(I am, however, pleased to see my luck with comment numbers hasn't run out.)
