Police Appeal

I know I don't tend toward the serious on this blog often. But sometimes, circumstances call for it.

If you're anywhere around the Essex/Clacton area, please read this, pass on the link, spread the word.

I keep checking google, but nothing yet, and I need to get some sleep. I hope you all wake to better news.

They've found his car this morning. Still no sign of him, though. The search area has been vastly extended.

Google just gave me this:
http://news.sky.com/story/958158/essex-manhunt-armed-police-surround-property They may have cornered him. I hope so.

Now I'm seeing reports they've found him dead in a churchyard.

Hopefully that's right. Back to bed for me, but may your day be better today.

Hi L

Despite the fact that I live quite close to Clacton (in fact that's where I passed my driving test after failing it four times in my hometown) I had no idea this was happening until I got into work this morning and was told the shooter had killed himself.

My boss, who lives in Clacton, told me it was suggested he didn't go home yesterday (which he ignored for the reason that that's where his bed is) and then that he stayed home with the door locked today (which he again ignored because if several feet of snow along country roads don't stop him getting into work every day then a gunman certainly won't).

But anyway, at least it's over now.

yeah, he took his own life this morning.

Small consolation, but I'm glad he didn't commit "suicide by cop" That happens too often here, and it usually means someone else getting hurt.

I was thinking about that yesterday, rsf--probably because it does seem to happen a lot here, as you say. But, well...and at least it didn't happen this time.

Not quite so easy to commit suicide by cop here since relatively officers are armed even now, so you'd have to be prepared to wait for an armed response unit most of the time.

I just hope they find whoever gave or sold Reeve the gun and throw the book at him.

Yeah, you'd almost certainly be tasered, if anyone could get close. Otherwise you'd just be in for a very long stand-off.

took days last time someone did this and that ended in tasers and police in trouble. I'm gald this one was cleaner for the police, they have enough to deal with losing one of their own.

My thoughts go out to the family, friends and colleagues of the dead officer. Reeve may be dead, but that's not much consolation for them.

Just heard about another armed incident here in London just now... Hope it ends peacefully for all concerned.

SH - I think the only, small, consolation is that there were no further injuries, apart from Reeve taking his own life, and that the officer almost certainly did save the life of the person he was trying to protect. But you're right, it isn't much when faced with such tragedy.

I feel sorry for Reeve's family too. They can't even ask him what went so very terribly wrong.

you are very right Anon. all the relatives of all parties involved should be in our thoughts.

I think that's the worst aspect of it ending like this - that no-one gets any answers now.

I do feel bad for Reeve's family too, and the guilt they will doubtless carry.

What a horrible tragedy all around... in situations like these, there are frequently no answers.

I hope John and the boys are staying close by.
