Strange how the night moves, with Autumn closing in.

Sherlock's last day of freedom. Last day of rolling out of bed late (okay, that never happened), last day of leisurely breakfasts, last day of...well, obviously not last at all, really.

Still. I'm going in a bit late tomorrow, so John and I can both take him to school. Possibly on a bike...

Then I'm off to work, Sherlock's at school until gone 3... John will doubtless spend the day dancing around the flat with pants on his head and pencils up his nose, singing as loud as he can and doing backflips through the sitting room.

Or, you know, daring to enter Sherlock's room and see what the summer has left living in there.

Here's our flowers. We didn't have loads, just a couple of these at the front of the service, and they moved to the tables later.

On the tables was cow parsley and lavender, with the odd white rose. Dead simple, nothing too showy.

We swam today. It was lovely. Sherlock spent a lot of time leaping in, and nearly managed to life save John without strangling or drowning him. We spent quite a lot of time doing underwater somersaults, too. And me launching him up into the air to practice his diving.

Sad about Mycroft not being here, though. I love having Mycroft around. Sherlock is brilliant fun, with his mad questions and sudden urges to do/see things. But Mycroft is...you can have great conversations with him, and laugh until your sides hurt.

Sadly for Sherlock, nothing caught fire while we were on Cheapside.

Now I have to shave...unless John thinks I should grow a beard.

No beard, please. I mean, unless you really want to.

You think you're joking, but just wait...

Greg Lestrade said...

No, you're safe. I look like a fat Michel Roux Jr. with a beard.

I wasn't joking :)

Soon though, I will have a day off on a week day and we can thoroughly enjoy ourselves.

With our pants on our heads?

Greg Lestrade said...

If it would make you happy :)

Reckon you can sneak into town for lunch tomorrow?

John H. D. Watson said...

Definitely. Just let me know when you're free.

Greg Lestrade said...

For my husband..any time* ;)

*except when I'm not.

We're all expecting decent selfies pics for the Pants-On-Your-Head Dance. -EchoOfMe

Ha. I feel like you're going to arrange some police ID card for me like Sherlock's, only it'll say DI Lestrade's Husband ;)

John H. D. Watson said...

EchoOfMe - only if L performs with me!

Greg Lestrade said...

Why wouldn't you post a pic of you with your pants on your head? We've already seen you wearing bread products on your head. Surely no worse?

I might arrange that ID, yeah... If your pic on it had one of your glares you'd just have to open it, and terrify people into submission :)

Oh, the flowers were very lovely!

Also, now I've got that song stuck in my head.

What lovely flowers, they're a gorgeous colour combination and I bet they looked fab with your jacket lining, Sherlock's shirt, the buttonholes and all the other purple accessories.

Have a great day back at school, Sherlock, you'll be able to check out what's been happening in the pond over the summer. :)

Hope you ease back into work ok, Greg, without anything too harrowing to get back to.

Good luck trying to tidy up the post holiday state of Sherlock's room if you brave it, John, and if pants are involved we want photographic proof. ;)

Have a great day everyone. :)

Have a great term Sherlock. Have you got anyone new in your class this year?

J, I have a mental image of you about to enter Sherlock's room, L's purple boxers on your head and a black bag in your hand.

Anyone else have memories of finding a lunch box that had been hidden since the end of the previous term?

Greg Lestrade said...

Sherlock is safely at school on a very misty London morning :)

Enjoy your day John, I have my first child free day in weeks as well today but I'm not sure pants on my head will figure in it ;-)

Have a good day at work Greg, I hope the other case has been cleared up by now and nothing too nasty comes in today.

Greg Lestrade said...

Cheers. Juggling officers mainly at the moment.

That car crash in Kent is unbelievable. 100+ car pile up.

We got inundated with the homework crowd yesterday, so it is really feeling like autumn has arrived. And I already miss summer.

I hope Sherlock has a great first day of school. John, do you have more days of your other lined up soon to fill in the non-boy-filled hours?

A hundred plus car crash sounds like something out of California. I googled it, and I'm glad there weren't any fatalities. But wow...

Happy First Day for those to whom that applies. We've broken a record for our family; today is the third day of school and I'm already calling someone in sick.

100 car crash? Wow.

Greg Lestrade said...

I think official word is 130cars now.

Danger, I'm in the office if you want to wander past waving a sandwich at me.

Sally's eating a bagel. Not sure I get the point of bagels? Surely everything falls out of the hole.

John H. D. Watson said...

I'm waving a sandwich toward your window...

Greg Lestrade said...

Ha, he really is. Or a brown paper bag, anyway.

Be right down!

Anonymous said...

Bagels are so the middle isn't mushy.

What kind of sandwich?

John H. D. Watson said...

Just ham and cheese. With crisps. Not in the sandwich.

piplover said...

But crisps in a sandwhich taste so good!

Hope you're all having a good day.

Greg Lestrade said...

Danger, just going to see a family, update them on a case. Then home!

Joolz said...

Oh I love a nice crisp butty, probably my favourite, in fact, closely followed by cooked petit pois, though that can be a bit messy so it's easier to just fold one slice of bread in half so they don't all fall out of the bottom.

How was your day, John, was it nice to have a bit of peace.

Hope Sherlock enjoyed being back at school and you're nearly on your way home, Greg. :)

Greg Lestrade said...

I am on the way home. One family grateful for an update on their case progressing.

John H. D. Watson said...

L - excellent :)

Joolz - nice in a way, but also very strange and quiet. I'll be glad to get back to work as well.

pandabob said...

any news on work John? quiet is really the only word for the child free empty space isn't it?!

Hope you're home soon Greg and that you can all relax together for the evening :-)

Joolz said...

I know what you mean, John. It always seems like you can't wait for some time to yourself and then you sort of find yourself wandering aimlessly around in the quiet thinking that something is missing.

Did Sherlock enjoy being back and did he get to arrive in style on the bikes. :)

Greg Lestrade said...

He seems pretty happy to be back. He rushed up to Mrs T and N when we got there, told them we were married :)

And he's casually announced that there's some gathering being organised to tidy up the school grounds and let new parents/guardians meet us old guard.

Joolz said...

Aww, that's so nice that he's so proud of you both. He is just a lovely little boy.

And how nice to be volunteered for clearing up so early in the start of the term - what's the betting that many baked refreshments will be required too. ;)

John H. D. Watson said...

At least there's no costume-making involved.

Joolz said...

Now that's a really glass half full way to look at it, John, well done, that speaks of much experience in having things sprung upon you. ;)

rsf said...

Are you sure, John? You could all show up in overalls and rubber gloves!

Greg Lestrade said...

Joolz - I don't mind providing refreshments. I enjoy baking a lot more than eating it!

I think it's just because the garden/grassy area around the pond has got a bit overgrown. Lots of pruning and chopping to be done to fight the bushes back into submission. And it's a good way of seeing which new parents want to get involved, too. I'm amazed how many people are willing to send their kid somewhere and then have nothing to do with the school themselves.
