(Hello! I didn't really believe Greg when he said this is the reason he's been humming the same tune for the last hour but now it seems like it was true. Also, Doctor John, very sensible to have a back up career in medicine and child care, after modelling. Nice picture though. DC Amy.)
So, now for the newest track for the album.
To the tune of 'Country Trash' by Johnny Cash. Video linked at the end.
Dogs 'n' Sprogs
I got a crazy job and a boyfriend here,
He said I was a murder'r, but now I'm in the clear,
Got two young lads and a pair of hounds,
A large stuffed spider and a doctor's rounds,
We dig out ponds and we'll watch for frogs,
Sometimes feels like my life's all dogs 'n' sprogs..
Well ev'ry day leads to something new,
Bike lessons, baking, or an escaped degu,
Running in the park or staying in a fort,
Wond'ring if I should give a marathon some serious thought,
But for now I'll take my boyfriend on short jogs,
Sometimes feels like my life's all dogs 'n' sprogs.
Helping with drawings as the glitter flies,
Or shouting out my joy for winning rugby tries,
Whether I'm tempting DIs on my couch,
Or stitching him up from the latest ouch,
Glad I rescued them all from the deadly bogs,
Sometimes feels like my life's all dogs 'n' sprogs.
Well there's a lot more love in my life here,
As well as pancakes, coffee and frequent cheer,
We're all enjoying life together however mad it can be,
Even if I think 'how is this happ'ning to me?'
I just write it all down, share it on the blogs,
Because my life now feels like
All dogs 'n' sprogs.
Our lives now feel like
Dogs 'n' sprogs,
We're so lucky to have these
Dogs 'n' sprogs.
And now, Mr Johnny Cash:
And after all THAT...
You only get the relevant part. Thought I'd go for a Danger doing a cheeky flash of what's REALLY under that kilt... of course, he wouldn't be a very good underwear model if he didn't wear any ;)
Sorry it's so dark. I am sitting in a darkened room. Be difficult to explain I gave away our position because I needed to use the flash on my cameraphone to take a photo of a picture of my boyfriend flashing his boxers...

another (couple of ) masterpiece(s) ;-)
Glad obbs are proving fruitful if only from the Jammy Badgers point of view ;-)

The song is lovely, and I'm going to pretend the drawing is of you. Did you really show it to DC Amy?
Well done on the song! I could hear the tune in my head as I was reading it.
Oh, and John - nice arse! :D
Drawing is clearly you. Ro even recognises it. It's got your dimples :) Plus you're the only kilt-wearer around here.
I sort of had to, as I drew it and then took a picture of it. Would have been weirder to hide it from her, I think? She thinks it's hilarious. And says you sound great. I agree, while trying not to sound too unbearably smug.
Brilliant, again, Lestrade. How do you have so much talent?! :)
(Hi, DC Amy!)
Nothing to be ashamed of there, DOc.
Greg - I admire your genius at lyrics and your skill at drawing!
DC Amy - Hi! Welcome to the blogs. We're a friendly, playful and somewhat mother-henning bunch here. :)
John - Is Sherlock asleep yet? Or is he staging the Great Sherlock (and degu) escape?
~A from NW
Well...tell her hi from me then, and that I do usually get to know people a bit better before flashing my arse at them.
Hmmm. Aha! No scar on my calf, it's clearly you. :P
It's from your modelling days, long before that scar. Obviously. :P
DW - really don't have that much talent! Just know a lot of songs that are easy to rip off :)
Danger - is Sherlock asleep? Wouldn't want him to be a grumpy little troll for his Mum tomorrow. I, however, reserve all rights to being one.
remind me why I gave up smoking? cigarette would be lovely right now. this biro I'm sucking isn't really doing it for me.
Another brilliant song. I am so in awe of you all with your songwriting talents.
John - can only agree with Ro, nice arse :-)
Lestrade - http://interestingmurders.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/lestrade-stop-smoking.html.
Hah, thanks, Nameless.
You've mainly just reminded me I had a horrible photo of me in uniform back then, though!
I feel slightly bad that all the songs I've written have been from Danger's point of view, really. Putting words into his mouth. When there are so many better things to be putting in there...
(I mean home cooking, obviously.)
It was a very nice photo of you in uniform!
long before that scar. Obviously. :P
Ah, I hadn't realised I was modeling so young. I suppose it makes sense though. As much as any of this makes sense.
And yes, Sherlock is in bed. He actually fell asleep on the couch watching tennis with me, so all I had to do was take him upstairs.
Glad he's asleep.
You okay from carrying him? I shall pamper you to death tomorrow. Or say I will, then fall asleep, and drool on you a bit. One or the other.
Lestrade, you are even cheekier than John, and going by that picture, that's really saying something. But you deserve to bask in your good luck, because you're so sensible of it.
(John, I don't want to spoil anybody in case other readers of these blogs care about the tennis, but can you believe the Isner-Djokovich match? TWO tiebreaks!)
L - yeah, I'm all right. Go with sleeping. I'll have a nap with you and then I won't notice the drool.
Innie - I cannot believe it! I guess I should after Isner beat Federer (on clay!) in the Davis Cup tie, but still...amazing. I wish the rain would stop.
According to the tournament website, the R vs R match is scheduled to begin . . . right now. I know we're on opposite sides for this one, John, but hopefully we'll both get to see a great match!
Me? Cheekier than John? Don't think so.
You staying up to watch the tennis then? That's kind of good. If you survive a few hours of excited Sherlock in the morning, then when his Mum comes to pick him up we can collapse into bed together and have an exceedingly lazy Sunday.
I think Amy's making up phantom yellow cars. That or there's a very odd correlation between it being her turn to watch and a sudden rash of yellow cars.
You can't tell yellow cars properly in the dark Amy is just clever enough to know that you take every advantage of someone suggesting the yellow car game ;-)
You, Cheeky? never, who could ever think that? ;-)
be careful getting home in the morning (I know I've said that a lot the last couple of days but working night shift means people need to take more care of themselves :-) )
Anony
I am staying up to watch the tennis, or I'm going to try to at least, now that it's got started.
You can't play Yellow Car properly if you're not both watching! Not unless you start making up yellow cars as well anyway.
Will I find you and Sherlock asleep on the sofa when I get in, and the kitchen looking like a Sherlock has made his own breakfast in it?
Sadly the idea is one of us makes all the notes, the other watches/photographs/gives running commentary/descriptions, and then we swap. So yes, slightly hard to play yellow car the traditional way.
but you would have thought you could trust a police officer...
A police officer playing Yellow Car? I don't think so. Go for I Spy or something verifiable. That doesn't involve being able to punch one's superior in the arm and get away with it.
Will I find you and Sherlock asleep on the sofa when I get in, and the kitchen looking like a Sherlock has made his own breakfast in it?
It's...a possibility.
it sounds like a lovely possibility.
Did he wake you up at a horrible hour this morning? Or did you persuade him to go back to sleep in our bed for a bit?
I miss weekend mornings with you and the boys. really miss them.
He woke me at four, five, and six, and then we got up. At least it was this weekend and not when Mycroft was home.
I miss sleeping with you. I mean, not...well that too, but actually sleeping.
(Federer won the first set, by the way.)
You guys are so domestic and fluffly. <3
Does Sherlock know how to make pancakes? For that matter, do you, Doc? What about waffles?
I don't think we have a waffle iron. Do we? I can't remember having waffles.
And I can...sort of make pancakes. Maybe. Pretty sure they'll be better if L does them though.
we don't. And I've never made them.
Waffles here are savoury things made of potato, generally, DW.
Although Waffles Liege with cream and fruit...I could eat that all day.
Sherlock knows how to make a mess.
Stick with your strengths, I always say... :)
Greg - You're making me miss Europe so much... I hope you and Amy have had a productive, yet quiet/safe night and are on your way to bed via a quick stop at the Yard.
Happy Sunday all!
~A from NW
Thanks - quiet so far.
You know, Lestrade, I don't know that history proves you wise in saying things like tyat. Did you immediately touch wood, spin anti-clockwise three times, spit on your fingers, and toss salt over your shoulder when you said that? If jot, you might want to consider it...
Good point, DW, very good point. :)
I only said 'so far'!
Home now :)
Hooray! Doc and Sherlock status?
Hope you're either asleep Greg or making the most of Sherlock's company before he heads out.
Enjoy your time with your mum Sherlock I hope she appreciates the card and all its glitter :-)
Anony
Sherlock's gone. We're asleep. Mmmmmmmmm
Happy Sunday, everyone.
For your enjoyment, I come bearing the following:
http://tinyurl.com/6lsfwdv
I need one of those laughing smilies to properly react to that, DW!
Have a peaceful sleep/day, L and John--and a fun Mothers' Day with your mum, Sherlock!
John's laughing a lot, but says he thinks I'd suit a fedora or something better, after me saying more people should wear hats the other day...
We're having a very peaceful day, thanks.
Happy Mother's Day to all you Mums out there. Hope your days are happy and filled with glitter.
I had a panicky few minutes last night before I remembered the US and UK have different dates for Mothers' Day... :)
So Happy Mothers's Day to them mothers as are celebrated today!
Glad you and John are having a peaceful day Greg, it must be strange to be without Sherlock for the day, I hope he's having a fun day with his mum :-)
I've been spoilt today not only a glitter covered card but a fairy puppet making kit to do with the girls this afternoon that has red silver and gold glitter to put on the wings ;-) any suggestions as to how to get glitter out of a rug will probably be very useful this evening ;-)
Hope you continue to have a peaceful day
Anony
Right, I need a detective. OH put the back door key in a safe place before we went away. All suggestions as to where would be gratefully received.
Son arrived with Mother's Day card and gift at 9.15 and wondered why I wasn't dressed!
Hope you and the Doc are having a good day, L and dozing (or something) on the sofa.
Anony--you don't want to remove glitter, you want to EMBRACE glitter! :)
SH--Inside the house or outside the house? (One time I went with some of my high school class on a trip to spend a weekend with a similar Jewish girls' school in a small town in Pennsylvania, and they had us all parceled out among the students' families for sleeping. Saturday night, while we were out roller skating, the family I was staying with also went out--but they were expecting a son to come by, so they left a note on the back door telling him the keys were in the usual place.
The burglars found them right where they put them--under the doormat.)
Ok I decided I'd have a go, please don't laugh just discard it when someone does a better job :-)
Party on the naughty porch. (to ‘do you here the people sing’ from les mis)
So we sit here writing songs
By the light of just a torch
As we think of all the bad things that led to the naughty porch
Naughty words and googling
Fussing around and making noise
There’ll be a party on the porch for bugging the boys
There’ll be ice cream, jam and marmite
There’ll be beer and Guinness to
Pancakes, steak and pudding and a lot of things to do
Come join in the party that happens at night on the porch
So we sit here writing songs
By the light of just a torch
As we think of all the bad things that led to the naughty porch
Naughty words and googling
Fussing around and making noise
There’ll be a party on the porch for bugging the boys
We’ll all talk and we’ll all dance and we’ll try always to ignore
The fact that we’ve been naughty and that this should be a bore
We’ll spend all the party avoiding all nanny John’s glares
So we sit here writing songs
By the light of just a torch
As we think of all the bad things that led to the naughty porch
Naughty words and googling
Fussing around and making noise
There’ll be a party on the porch for bugging the boys
Anony
Anony - that is brilliant, especially the last line!
RR - We know it's inside, because he came in, locked the door and ....
Awwww, Anony. It's a perfect fit. Well done! <3
SH, on top of the door frame? Or the fridge? Where you put the mail when you come in? In the fridge with the beer/wine/squash? In the kettle? On the radiator?
That's great, Anony! Ha!
I was also going to say fridge/freezer. Also check everywhere he checks when locking up--window sills, tables near light switches--whatever a normal walk through might need hands to check. And his pants pockets.
Anony - that's great! And yes, it is odd not having Sherlock around. But we've spent the day wisely, dozing and out on the bike and lazing about generally.
SH - give him something else to put in a safe place and follow him to see where he goes...
Sounds like the perfect way to spend a rare day to yourselves :-) glad you've had fun.
Thanks about the song SH DW RR and L :-)
Anony
I've not been feeling great, so I haven't been reading the songs, but Anony's "Party on the naughty porch" came at just the right time. Brilliant!
I'm constantly in awe of the talent here.
Awww, sorry to hear that, CB. Are you feeling any better now? Do you need any distraction from us?
Glad you like it CB and hope you're feeling better soon :-) this place is pretty good at making people laugh if that would help :-)
Anony
Thanks for the suggestions guys. L - we may have to re-enact the crime. But we are talking about the person who a) on holiday went swimming with his car keys in his pocket and b) when learning dingy sailing did capsize drill with another set of car keys. I am therefore reluctant to give him anything else of value.
CB - hope you feel better soon.
DW, Anony & SH, thanks; I an feeling better. Just a migraine trying to erupt. :-(
And now, I should really start cleaning.
Hope you keep the migraine at bay, CB. I'd lend you John, but it really is one of his only days off, ever...get hold of him tomorrow if it hasn't :)
Feel better, CB--and the cleaning will wait, you know (unfortunately :)).
What time is Sherlock coming back?
Hope the migraine didn't manage to take you over CB and really really the cleaning will wait, you can be sure it won't go away if you don't do it so leave it and get on with resting :-)
Anony
Any time now, RR.
I hope he'll be thoroughly worn out :)
He did send us a text earlier:
'There should be a Nanny day and a DI day because you do some things for us like Mummy's and Daddy's and they get a day and you don't and that's not fair'
Which probably made me and John hug each other a bit too tightly and feel a bit soppier than any self-respecting couple of BAMFs should. ;)
Ah that is so sweet of him. You are both very very good for him :-) it's shows what a clever person he is that he recognises it.
I hope he comes home tired enough to enjoy a cuddle and a story before falling into bed :-)
Anony
I don't think there's any way to feel too soppy over that...it made me tear up a bit. :)
L - Maybe you could pick a couple of dates in the calender and designate them DI day and Nanny day. It could catch on!
The iraine has gone away, but the cleaning really can't wait. Well, it could, but it's rotting absurd. ;-)
Lestrade and John are a bit like a Mummy and Daddy sort of and I told my real Mummy that we'd talked about it and said we'd agreed that Lestrade would have the babies, so that makes him more like the Mummy and John like a Daddy and she just laughed a lot, but said it was a good idea to have a DI day and a Nanny day and I might make them happen when it's boring.
You are totally right, Sherlock! They are like parents, only different. :)
(And making DI and Nanny days would be a very nice surprise on a boring day. I'm sure Lestrade and John would like it very much.)
Thanks, Sherlock. I'm sure your Mum was fascinated by the reasoning there...
But seriously, it's lovely.
And here are some wet bugs to look at (if you don't like close-ups of pretty insects, don't look.)
http://www.photographyoffice.com/2011/02/20-examples-of-macrophotography-genius-by-miroslaw-swietek/
...and some more. I just hate linking to the Daily Mail.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1260946/The-stunning-pictures-sleeping-insects-covered-early-morning-dew.html
Those are quite amazing photos, L. At that magnification they look more like aliens than insects.
What did you with your mum today, Sherlock?
You are a very lovely boy Sherlock, Greg and John are as lucky to have you around as you are to have them :-) It would be a lovely thing to surprise them with Nanny day and DI day, if you made it a day Mycroft was at home you could spoil them both at the same time and make it really special :-)
bugs shouldn't be pretty, how does water make it so? ;-)
Anony
Those ones where they look like jewels are awesome. Anony, why shouldn't bugs be pretty?
Maybe DI day could catch on at the Yard. Not sure what they'd do for it though....
I don't know SH, Up until 10 minutes ago I have never considered bugs pretty but it is yet another thing I have changed my mind about :-)
Anony
Sherlock, i agree that there ought to be a Nanny Day and a DI Day. I wouldn't wait until you're bored, though;I'd start planning it earlier.
Sounds like both you and your mother had a nice Mother's Day.
Mycorft and Mummy and I went out of London and went for a walk with the dogs and then had lunch and afternoon tea as well and it was fun but now John says I have to go to bed because I'm tired.
It sounds like you all had a special good day. :) Night night, Sherlock.
What a lovely way to spend your day Sherlock. Sleep well :-)
Anony
Sounds like a lovely Mother's Day, Sherlock. Did she like her card? What did it look like?
It sounds like you all had a lovely day, Sherlock. I'm sure your Mum loved bring able to have a nice day out with you and Mycroft.
N'night, sleep tight.
That sounds like a really nice day, Sherlock. And I think DI and Nanny days are a great idea. Have a good sleep.
Thanks for the links to those beautiful photos, Lestrade. Amazing. It's fascinating, what's going on in this world that we never notice.
Sherlock certainly seems to have had fun. As did John and I.
And now I have to drag him to bed and try to persuade my body clock back onto dayshift.
Glad you liked the pictures, I thought they were stunning!
Night night to the two of you, too. :)
Good luck with sleeping! So hard to readjust your sleeping patterns.
I'm on an RDO and it's $6 movie day at my local independent cinema - trying to decide if I'll go see Margin Call, or see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy for the second time (I loved it). Decisions, decisions!
DC Amy sounds like fun. I approve!
Yay for new songs (yessss, Les Mis!) and Sherlock and Mycroft visiting with the omnipotent Mrs H.
Morning :-) I hope everyone has weather like ours today it's actually sunny!
How well has the body clock adjusted Greg? Hope you have a busy enough but not very stressful day :-)
Anony
Morning folks, I hate going back to work after a week off. Any chance of nanny!John writing me a note to say I can stay home?
Hope your two night's of obbos has produced lots of useful information L, apart of course from the excellent lyrics.
Yeah, no kiddins SH. Hope the work isn't piled up on your desk when you get there. I didn't have thew week off but I spent Sunday on a ladder painting my garage. Can I get a note, too? MY hands and shoulders are too stiff to type very well and I'm sunburned (in March, no less!) and tired.
*waves* hello, DC Amy! Nice to "meet" you. And nice kilt, John. ;)
I'm putting this here Greg because it seemed wrong to put in under your last comment on John's. I know I'm putting words in your mouth and I've not been around long enough to know if it's right anyway so please delete it if you want to :-) it's even ok to laugh at me for how bad it is ;-)
Caffeine IV (to mambo no.5)
One, two, three and four
I’ve got coffee in my bag so I might not snore
There’s a coffee shop around the corner,
If I’ve got to stay longer than a want’a
Coffee, tea and red bull too,
Just about enough to see me through.
Sherlock, Mycroft and Danger too,
Would all be much better there with you
So what can I do?
I’m not sure I really know
How to get through the day
Without caffeine to make me stay
I sit here
Drinking from my cup and flask
Dreaming of the moment I am home
I live a life without much sleep
I Work every day not just the week
To me the boys bring such delight
I want to play all day and work at night
We have these blogs that never stop
We’ve got families that mean a lot
We found it all once John’d been shot
But that’s a bit that’s best forgot.
I look up and down, I look all around
I look to the stars and I look to the ground
I close my eyes, and I think of you
And it’s so clear to me what I want to do
I think of you and the day we met
And I know my life is a good as it gets
I had a pot of tea that was awful hot
A big flask of coffee I’d drink the lot
Many cans of coke or other pop
So much caffeine I’d never stop
Anything to stop me trying to think
Sure it was much better than a drink
It gave me all that it had to give
But it really was no way to live.
Caffeine’s been my friend through quite a lot
Helped me when my life was going to rot
But now I’ve got the love that I deserve
It’s Time for me to give it quite a swerve
I’ll take it on night shift, I miss my boys
Keeps me awake when I miss their noise
But at most times its clear to me
Love’s taken over as a friend to me.
I know it’s me
I fell in love as you can see
I won’t run and I won’t hide
Caffeine free we’re gona touch the sky.
Anony
I think it's a keeper. Anony. Well done! :)
Thanks DW it's got to be ok with Greg though before it'll be a keeper :-)
Anony
That is brilliant! I love it.
I'll even forgive you for mentioning Red Bull in the same sentence as coffee...
Seriously, though, I love it.
Sorry didn't comment sooner. Run was great, came home and had a leisurely shower. Sat on the sofa in my dressing gown, thinking I'd just check the news and then maybe wander over to meet John...
Wke up when John got back from work. :)
Ha! That's great, Anony!
Sounds like close to a perfect day off, L. :)
I'm glad you like it, I wasn't sure it was right to write from your point of view, eventhough you've written lots from John's, so I'm glad you don't mind :-)
You can keep your coffee and I'll keep my red bull and we'll all be happy how about that?
I am so glad your run was good I had to give up on my swim way earlier than I intended but there's no point pushing my bad shoulder, that certainly isn't going to make me feel better!!
I hope the extra nap will mean that your body clock is properly turned back round again and you still have a lot of the afternoon to enjoy :-)
Hope work wasn't too hard John and that the pair of you have a good afternoon.
Anony
Sounds a much better day than I had. Still battling with the idea that if they want me to pay people it does help to let me know that they're working.
But SH, if they tell you the people are working, you will pay them, and then the company won't have the money any more!
