Just a quick one, to say
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN!
You are the best thing that's ever happened to me. And if I can bring you even half the friendship and happiness that you've brought me, then I'll feel I'm doing well. You are amazing. We are all privileged to know you.
A picture of some misty countryside taken on our bike ride early this morning.
Now...no one fall in, and John stop trying to find your presents :) we've got a busy day ahead! LOTS of locks.

Taking time to give us beautiful pictures to look at! You really are intent on spoiling everyone this weekend aren't you :-)
Happy birthday John, I know I said it already but I don't think there's a law against saying it twice ;-) I hope you all enjoy another lovely day together, try not to get locked in anywhere ;-)

Safe travels all and happy birthday John!
Love the misty morning pic, L.
Happy Birthday John.
Hope you have a great day.
And enjoy your birthday cake!
Happy birthday, John :-)
And good luck with the locks, all of you!
There are so many locks we haven't even done half and there are hundreds! And people are even watching us do them and tomorrow we have to do them all again too!
Are you getting to open them Sherlock or are you helping steer the boat through?
You must be going very high, or low, if you need hundreds of locks ;-) glad you're having fun.

I'm doing the gates and I have to have John or Lestrade help push them open and closed because they're much heavier than I am and Mycroft does the other side and we've even helped other people too and we're going up a hill!
Helping other people too what a great adventure Sherlock and great team work too :-)
I hope the weather is as good there as it is here because I can't think of a better way to spend time in weather like this. :-)
Enjoy the rest of your trip up the hill, (clever isn't it how someone came up with a way to go up hill! on water)

Have a fantastic birthday John, you deserve it.
Thanks so much, everyone, for the birthday wishes. And especially you, L. This was a wonderful surprise, but even without it this would've been the best birthday i can remember. You and the boys mean everything to me. Thank you.
You don't mind that I've worked you hard and made you do 29 locks on your birthday? :)
I'm so glad you like it. I really didn't know if you would.
You can have your first present at the top :)
This is a trick, isn't it? It's locks forever and we never reach the top?
Happy Birthday, John! It sounds like a wonderful birthday, so much love.
It seems to be locks for...nearly ever.
It said 5 or 6 hours. But they didn't count on Sherlock questioning every other canal user to death on the way.
29 locks??? Are you four heading up snowdon in a canal boat?
Glad you're having a good birthday John you deserve it for looking after your boys :-)

I think locks a re a triumph of engineering ingenuity, but I think one or two in a row would be enough to appreciate that, let alone 29 :-p
I have googled, so have a fair idea where you are - looks wonderful.
Wow, guys, that a lot of locks! Hope its as fun and fascinating as it sounds! (And if it is locks forever and no presents, John, I say you tip L over the side. You know, so he has to get out of those wet clothes, etc. :) ) Birthday bash ahoy!
So close to the top now! And then find somewhere to relax :)
I hope you've finally reached the top John :-) If you are where I think you might be you really are lucky people :-)
I hope Greg is nice enough to give you your present at the top (I know he's totally lovely and nice and that doesn't change just because he will or won't give you presents ;-) )
Enjoy your evening all of you
Anony
We are at the top, just finding a quiet spot to stay for the night. I mean, presents can wait, right?
For a limited amount of time, yes...
I'm getting a grade 3 glare...
I'm sure they can wait Greg but you've been so excited by them yourself that surely you want to see the reaction you get ;-)
Glare hard John ;-)
Anony
I get excited, but as the time approaches to hand them over I get all nervous that the person won't like it.
He's loved your holiday and he'll love the presents because he loves YOU :-)
Anony
If you had Sherlock in the poll of 'who will fall in the canal first', award yourself a prize.
And you and Phobos!
I only got in to get you and Phobos out! And because I couldn't bring itself to let John get in a nasty dead-rabbit filled canal on his birthday.
You didn't even get the rabbit out either.
AND I didn't fall in, Phobos pushed me.
If you had Sherlock in the poll of 'who
will fall in the canal first', award yourself
a prize.
Yay, I get a prize :-)
I clicked through from the main page, misparsed Sherlock's comment and was.... slightly confused at the nature of the presents :-p
Oh dear :S Canal water is never good, I hope everybody is alright!
Sherlock was apparently trying to pull a composing rabbit corpse out of the water. Phobos took an interest, Sherlock toppled in, so I did the gentlemanly thing and got in to boost he and Phobos out to John and Mycroft.
Sherlock is most annoyed I didn't also get the rabbit for him.
DEcomposing
Shame, you could have lived on the royalties from the rabbits songs...
I would have rescued a composing rabbit.
I think Sherlock, Mycroft and I will serenade the birthday boy later on guitars and violin.
Happy birthday, John! It sounds like you are all having an amazing time, decomposing rabbits and wet Sherlocks aside.
I hope you continue to have a wonderful vacation!
If you'd had a poll on who would fall in first I think the result would probably have been a foregone conclusion.
The serenading sounds lovely. Hope it's starry wherever you are.
Getting wet, musical rabbits and serenades :-) sounds like a better evening than I've had ;-)
Hope the stars are out in force again :-)
Anony
Swimming *and* a dead rabbit. Phobos must have thought it was his birthday too.
I have, by the way, given John a present.
Now it's him keeping you lot in suspense.
I believe you Greg :-) I hope he's just too busy enjoying whatever you're up to to think of telling us nosey lot ;-)
I hope the weather is still treating you well and you're not all totally exhausted from 29!! locks.
Anony
I'm surprised Sherlock or Mycroft haven't said anything - they're both about equally excited, although Mycroft is quieter about it. And wants to know if he can take the dogs (no).
L's got us all a ride in a hot air balloon! I don't think he even knew I've always wanted to go up in one.
Hot air balloons are just fab you lucky man (and lucky boys aswell getting to go with you) :-)
You really are setting the bar high here Greg, what a star you are :-) (I'm guessing you've stopped worrying he might not like it now?)
Anony
I've never had any clue about your desires for narrow boats or hot air balloons, no. But I am very glad that you like the idea.
Anony - after Sherlock's excitement about flying in a plane I couldn't have denied him this!
I would have paid to see Sherlocks reaction if the balloon ride was only for you and John BUT I know there is no way you would have done that to him even as a joke :-)
Have you got mind reading abilities really when it comes to John? or are you just the best present buyer in the world? ;-)
Anony
Really, neither. I just thought...well, when you're as old as John is... I mean, we are, then you can buy anything you want. But experiences are sort of more precious. Doing things with people you love, sharing in the fun. So I just went with it.
And it always looked like a great thing to do. Floating peacefully.
I've never had any clue about your desires for narrow boats or hot air balloons
Also hang gliding and scuba diving, just so you know. :)
Right, noted.
We should probably sleep... we need to go back down those locks tomorrow...
You are so right, not about the age thing you're still both very young really, but experiences are what make life worth living and what better than to experience them with those you love :-)
Do balloons move even slower that canal boats? slowing down and being able to take a proper look around you seems to be the order of your weekend, It's good to do it sometimes important things can get missed in the normal speed of life!
Anony
It sounds like a most excellent birthday day, complete with amazing present (WOW, L!) and lots of fun and laughter. :)
And since it's already Apr. 1 for you--nope, not fooling. :D
Too busy to be fooling. It was very cold this morning, but locks are warming us up.
