Does the lipstick on your lip stick on my face

Busy day today. Walked into all the chaos of the Christmas stress building, people getting into all sorts of trouble with relationships and money and mopping up the inevitable Friday and Saturday nights anyway.

There's been a huge push recently on domestic violence crimes - Op Athena. So everyone's busy with that. Nearly 300 arrests since it began last week. Some people who come in for that are already wanted for other crimes, or we then find out we ought to want them...

So today, after meeting John, John's hat and Sherlock for a quick break, involved me going over to the labs and seeing some evidence they've collected.

Those are lipstick stains on cloth. They were testing them because of claims by various parties involved in a serious assault case. All I can say is some people lead extraordinarily complicated lives.

There are always odd things there in test tubes and marinating in liquids...

So the day went fast, and I rode in in the dark on icy roads and came home on dark icy roads. London went mad in the middle...Christmas shopping in full swing.

My migraine, for now, has gone....I really hope it stays gone.

I like how my hat is a separate entity now.

All those lipstick colours are from the same incident?

Im glad the migraine has buggered off for now :-)

I'm not sure how you have a push on DV crimes but I'm glad someone is doing something about it I just hope they get got for the DV and that doesn't get lost in other things they are found to have done.

I hope the evening is more restful than the day :-)

Danger - they're samples they're testing against evidence from an incident.

And your hat is a separate entity.

Anonybob - lots of ways, which I won't go into here, for obvious reasons. And yeah, sometimes we do get them for something else, but that's not our choice. the CPS takes all our evidence and recommends the charges.

its impossible to get a DV conviction even with written evidence the best chance you have of a violent partner being punished is for them to do something to someone else then they might just get caught.

Well, it's not impossible at all, I've seen hundreds in my career. Although sadly that is a tiny percentage of cases where we've either suspected it or been...as sure as we can possibly be. But they don't get to court for all kinds of reasons, many of which the police have no control over.

But to say it's impossible is as good as saying people shouldn't bother trying, which I think is a terrible thing to say.

Something else is better than nothing at all Greg :-) I'm glad you're all working on it.

Greg Lestrade said...

Well, we're only getting a few passed our way, it's mainly the CSUs. But yeah, the new crack-down operations we run do seem to work pretty well. On all sorts of different crimes.

I'm glad your headache has taken a hike, L--and I'm pretty fascinated by those lipstick stains in test tubes.

I'm glad your migraine's cleared, Lestrade. I have no idea how you manage to work through one; touch wood, I haven't had a migraine in a very long time, but I remember being barely able to stand, et alone function.

I was reading a news article about the Met's crackdown on domestic violence; it's really good to see this sort of crime - that affects so many people - being given a high profile and high priority.

Its good to know we have a police force out there determined to do all they can to keep us safe Greg, thank you for the part you play :-)

I hope your evening has been ok and that sleep comes at some point tonight for all of you :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Nameless - practice, ibuprofen, codeine and not making any sudden movement! But it only really works if I catch it early.

AnonyBob - cheers. Off to sleep now, I hope.

Glad the headache is gone, L. And catching up from the last entry, I like your facemask thing, but what do you do when you're not wearing a helmet? Doesn't the top of your head get cold? (Or have we stumbled onto the origin of the yellow bobble hat, after all?)

I hope the evidence from the lipstick is useful.

Sleep well!

Hows work Greg? as busy as yesterday or a bit easier on you today?

I'm not going to ask if sleep happened for fear that you got as much as I did ;-)

I hope you're having a good day John.

Greg Lestrade said...

Still busy.

And got a new case. "who tampered with my advent string?". Prime suspect John Hamish Watson.

pandabob said...

Well that's a case no one will argue with you taking home ;-)

surprises for everyone are what families are about.

I'm sorry/glad(delete as applicable) that you are still busy.

REReader said...

And here I was thinking you said you didn't remember what order your string was in? :D

Hope you have a productive (and pain free) day. :)

Small Hobbit said...

So it's now no longer coffee in every packet?

Greg Lestrade said...

Not remembering the order of 96 packets is, I think, normal. Not remembering the range of possibilities would make me wonder if I was turning senile.

And I know I didn't wrap any singular, apparently decaf, chocolate coated coffee beans. Especially when they're labelled as such by a scrawly-doctor-writing note...

AnonyBob - sorry to hear you had a sleepless night. Hope you have some opportunity for rest sometime.

REReader said...

Nice stealth repacketing, John! :)

John H. D. Watson said...

I knew I should've gone with letters cut out from a magazine, ransom note style...

Greg Lestrade said...

Are you holding my real coffee ones hostage? What's the ransom demand?

John H. D. Watson said...

What, you don't like your nice decaf bean?

Perhaps you should perform a thorough search of your surroundings.

Greg Lestrade said...

Well... I ate it.

Can you ask Mrs N, and our little angel, for music if they want me to play? I need to practice.

John H. D. Watson said...

Heh. It wasn't really decaf - I don't think they even make those.

Yeah, sure.

REReader said...

(Psst, John--They do!) :D

Greg Lestrade said...

They'd be completely pointless though :)
Thanks for my little treat, danger, found them in my bag. promise not to eat them all.

John H. D. Watson said...

Not before you get home, at least. Then I can steal some. ;)

Greg Lestrade said...

Ha, don't think these are ever leaving my office, except inside my digestive tract.

Did Sherlock get his wish to be a dancing angel? Or does he not know yet? And do I have to learn many songs?

John H. D. Watson said...

Foiled again.

He won't know till tomorrow. You, however, did get two songs to learn. Mrs N says they're 'a bit punk rock' and she hopes that won't be a problem for you...

Kestrel337 said...

That wait for audition results can be killer. Oldest daughter only had to wait 24 hours to find out about the winter one act and I was sure she was going to burst.

Greg (and by extension, all who protect and serve): Thanks for adding to the balance of 'good' in the world. Even if you don't catch as many as you'd like, sending a strong message that domestic violence isn't acceptable can only be a good thing.

REReader said...

They'd be completely pointless though :)

Just for the taste of it!

Bronwyn said...

Having seen pictures, I doubt a bit punk is too much for Greg. Hi, Greg. :)
Toodles,
Bronwyn

Greg Lestrade said...

Hey Bronwyn. Hope you're keeping well.

Danger - hope you told her I would only play the most deeply religious carols, nothing else.

Kestrel - Thanks.

Bronwyn said...

I am, Greg, thank you. My life is much saner again, and that is a story no one needs because it's not my blog. But I did miss reading about y'all's wild gallivanting and such things.

I think you should play "This Time of Year" byt the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. That's religious, right?
Bronwyn

John H. D. Watson said...

Hi Bronwyn. Nice to see you again. I'm glad your life is going better. :)

L - naturally.

ryo said...

Wasn't Sherlock deciding between dancing and something else (reading, maybe?)? How did he finally decide which to pick?

Hey Bronwyn!

Bronwyn!

*Tackleglomp!*

Good to see you again!

L, is decaf coffee actually without caffiene, or does it just have a much lower caffiene count? I've always wondered, since I don't drink it. Does it taste the same, or different, like diet pop tastes different than regular pop?

Greg Lestrade said...

Much lower. I don't think they can get it all out.

Nwadays you can get good ones that you wouldn't know the difference. In ye olde days you could definitely tell.

Sorry, been in court all morning.

Courtin' last night sounds like more fin than in court this mornin'.
