If I Could I Surely Would

Despite having days off, I feel like I've been busier than ever! It's been lovely spending time with John and the boys, though. Except it just makes me want to do it more often. I really can't imagine giving up the job...but sometimes I dream.

Anyway, yeah, busy. Avebury was great, and we all enjoyed it a lot. It's a shame we couldn't go out theree on the bikes, but next time I'm sure we will.

Today I've been trying to practice playing the songs I'm doing at the wedding tomorrow. I need to find somewhere once we're theree where I can warm up - mainly my voice. I sound like a tin can being dragged on a bad road if I don't warm up. Probably have a quick Scotch to help with that, and a bit of dutch courage ;)

Sherlock has very carefully hung up his outfit, which I think Mycroft told him to do. They're both going to look very smart young men. Sherlock is wildly excited about it all. I'm not sure he's ever been to a wedding before - especially not when he's busy planning ours, so wants to know everything about everything.

We are, as the poll results tell us, going to shake it all about ;)

As I said on John's blog, I'm strangely nervous about it all. Not just singing, but just about wanting it to go right. Weird, isn't it? How you sometimes want things to go right for other people more than you ever do for yourself.

Mrs Hudson and the security team have bravely offered to dog-sit. I hope we have a flat to come home to.

Last night John and I went on our belated Valentine's. John took me to a lovely Spanish-y hotel. Our room was an amazing blue colour, and the bathroo mwas a riot of tiles. The food was fantastic - we had tapas. And then there was a lovely lounge bar, where we probably drank too much rum :) but not, I hasten to add, so much that it dampened proceedings! As always, it was great to just spend time together, no early morning wake-up calls of small elbows hitting you in the face.

Although we did get an actual call, demanding to know our eta for returning for FUN. We still managed a lazy breakfast though, and then a leisurely ride home. It was...yeah, lovely. One of the things I love about John, is that we just...get along, all the time, and things like this, although we obviously both make the effort, it's not like...there's no pressure. You know, we just enjoy each other's company all the time. It makes it so much more enjoyable.

Here's wishing you all a lovely time at the wedding, and all joy to the happy couple.

Spending time with those you love is amazing especially when you have time to relax properly and just enjoy it :-)

Good luck with the playing at the wedding, I think its really rather lovely that you want things to go so well for your friends although it doesn't surprise me given how much concern you show for us random internet folks :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks. Am still playing, although I think John's now asleep beside me. I shall have to wake him up soon, and hope he'll give me a hand massage :)

pandabob said...

don't wear your hand out before the performance ;-)

sleep well both of you when the time comes and enjoy tomorrow :-)

Don't know what you could mean, AnonyBob! ;)

Bedtime. Night all.

Good luck today Greg :-)

have fun finding things out Sherlock.

Enjoy the dancing John ;-)

Mycroft I hope you enjoy the day :-)

There's Snow here! I hope the weather is better there :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Its been vaguely trying to snow. Sherlock wants it to, obviously.

I hope the snow doesn't dirupt things too much for you.

Sherlock said...

Yes because snow is brilliant and you could throw snow instead of confetti and it would be amazing.

I've got a new shirt and i have to have one sleeve rolled up because I can't to up the button around my cast and it's got squares
On like Lestrade's and John has a plain one like Mycroft and Mycroft is wearing a suit but I'm not because I don't like them and John and Lestrade both tried to comb my hair this morning and I hate it because it hurts and it was fine anyway.

I hope you all have a great day and that you are able to relax and enjoy it L. Everyone sounds very smart, Sherlock.

Safe travel anonybob and anyone else battling white fluffy weather.

It sounds like you all look very smart. I hope you all have a wonderful day, and that day is just perfect for Jo and Lisa :-)

Lestrade - I look forward to hearing how wonderfully you sang for them.

Anonybob - ooh, snow. I hope it's the fun kind, and not the "argh, stuck on a motorway for seven hours" kind :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Nameless - I'm sure you'll get a completely biased report, yeah.

Just leaving now. I'm sure it will be lovely.

Greg Lestrade said...

Nearly ceremony time. I may cry, and I'm not ashamed to admit it!

Small Hobbit said...

Have a great time, all of you.

Anon Without A Name said...

Well, Lestrade... did you?

Greg Lestrade said...

My eyes may have watered.

Mycroft is arranging the confetti/glitter stars on the dining tables into constellations. John is chatting to a doctor. Sherlock has ivy on his head...

Anonymous said...

And is there dancing?

Greg Lestrade said...

There will be, after speeches and cake cutting and we've all digested

Small Hobbit said...

Since someone has to ask: Why does Sherlock have ivy on his head?

Greg Lestrade said...

There are snowdrops and ivy and white roses all on the tables and wound around the posts and beams in here.

I can't exactly say why it needed to find a home on his head...

John H. D. Watson said...

Maybe he was checking it for bugs.

John H. D. Watson said...

And I did not step on any totes while dancing.

John H. D. Watson said...

... or toes.

Greg Lestrade said...

You're wonderful. I love dancing with you. I love being somewhere we can dance. And Sherlock trod on my toes lots more than you have!

John H. D. Watson said...

He was just standing on your feet there for a while...

Greg Lestrade said...

He's been so good. I'm very proud of both of them.

Love you

I'm surprised the ivy didn't sneak onto the top of John's head. I'm glad you've all had such a great time. And the next wedding is yours! Even better!

Greg Lestrade said...

Things may have been put on Johns head as the evening wears on. He looks good in a veil!

John H. D. Watson said...

At least I noticed that one.

Greg Lestrade said...

We should think about going. One tired little boy needs to sleep normally ready for school on Monday. And I've probably had enough champagne.

Anon Without A Name said...

I trust everyone - including the brides - had a good day?

John H. D. Watson said...

He's not the only one. I think Mycroft's well past his tolerance for being around loads of strangers for one day.

I'm glad we got to come though, and got to hear you play. It was a good day.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, Mycroft's done really well too. I know he finds it a bit tedious

Glad you enjoyed it.

It has been a lovely day.

John H. D. Watson said...

Yeah. Love you.

Small Hobbit said...

So does that mean that one of the things you are going to copy for your wedding is J in a veil?

Glad to hear you all had a good time.

Greg Lestrade said...

Love you too. And after that very long goodbye to everyone we should get a cab instead of the tube, what with my guitar and a sleeping Sherlock with pockets stuffed full of glitter and confetti

John H. D. Watson said...

L - I'll get one, you...continue not dropping Sherlock. It looks like a difficult job, the way he's sort of drooping sideways.

SH - it won't be in the plans, but I can't say I'd be surprised if he found one to stick on my head at some point.

Greg Lestrade said...

Not surprised he's tired after all the dancing and talking he's done.

Anonymous said...

Did Mycroft dance too? Or did he find other ways to amuse himself?

rsf

John H. D. Watson said...

Mycroft was very popular as a dance partner for the little girls, and very patient with them too.

Greg Lestrade said...

And very patient answering the same questions from the adults over and over too.

Sherlock gathered all confetti and table-top glitter, and also organised tables into sorting it by shape for him to collect. It's amazing what adults will do when ordered by a small boy.

Anonymous said...

That's wonderful. Reminds me of a cousin of mine many years ago, who always let me "dance" on his feet when I was small, and later on taught me how to waltz. Mycroft, you're sure to have created some good memories today!

Anonymous said...

Sorting confetti? How many shapes were there? And what on earth does Sherlock plan to do with second hand glitter?

rsf

Anonymous said...

did Sherlock play tiddlywinks with the confetti?

Greg Lestrade said...

No, no tiddlywinks.

Not sure about his plans for glittery plastic. But there were bells, hearts, stars, horseshoes and probably others I don't remember.

Mycroft set out constellations with the stars.

Anonymous said...

After I posted I began to wonder if knowing what Sherlock had planned for the glitter fell into the category of "the world is not yet prepared for this", but I'm sure it will be interesting finding out. Maybe he's going to make confetti for your wedding? I'm not sure you can get stethoscopes and handcuffs as confetti shapes.

rsf

Sherlock said...

You can because you can ask them to make any shapes at all.

REReader said...

That opens a whole world of possibilities--like, motorcycle shapes would be good for both of them. Or coffee and teacup shapes!

Anonymous said...

Identify the confetti could be an after dinner game or something for the kids to do during the speeches?

Anonymous said...

What shapes do you think there should be at John and Lestrade's wedding, Sherlock?
