Wedding Time!

Hello, I thought I would start this new post all ready for the details, so Mycroft's just helping me.

Well, my dears, we're all just going in to the room now!

There are lovely big windows, and beautiful flowers at the front. The lady registrar is very smiley and friendly. So now we're all waiting for the other boys to be down here with us!

Martha Hudson

Hello, this is Mycroft. I thought some of you would like to hear the music Lestrade chose.

He walked down the aisle to this song - from about one minute into the piece.

And then they walked out together to this song:

John and Lestrade danced to this. This is the dance they have been practising for for some time. It was very entertaining (for the right reasons). But it may take them a while to get their breath back. And Lestrade wants more champagne.

Sherlock is now on the dancefloor.

Lestrade played his guitar and sang this song to John. Causing many people to cry.

...everyone's gone in.

Just had my last pre-wedding kiss with John :)

Martha Hudson said...

Now John and Murray and Mycroft have all come in, with the dogs. They all look so very smart I think I might cry already!

John's got a big beaming smile on his face.

Harry said...

He does look really happy. They both do.

Martha Hudson said...

Now Sherlock's brought in Lestrade with some rock music playing

rsf said...

Do you know the song list, Mrs. Hudson? I'd love to play the music along with them! (And thank you for commenting for us!)

pandabob said...

I think we'll all cry together Martha.

Nicky said...

It was 'Love Reign O'er Me' The Who, without the intro

Martha said...

Dear Sherlock's holding onto Lestrade's hand very hard. Lestrade and John are holding hands too, as the nice lady said her piece.

rsf said...

Thanks, Nicky
It sounds great. I'm sitting here all choked up.

harry said...

Is it impolite to take bets on whether my brother's going to cry?

Nicky said...

only if you take bets on my brother too ;)

Martha said...

Oh the rings! so sorry, can't see with all these tears to write

rsf said...

I'd chip in for a bet that said both of them end up damp-eyed before the end of the festivities.

Trills said...

Maybe the bet should be who cries first?

rsf said...

I have to go out the door, but here are some glitter bubbles for you to imagine I am tossing at the happy couple in lieu of rice.

Congratulations to all of you! I hope when I get back we get lots of descriptions of what everyone was wearing and the food at the reception and the music and all! I'm so happy for you!

Murray's Mum (Catherine) said...

It's just beautiful. I'm so proud, John's such a sweet boy.

Nicky said...

They're signing the register, and I can see Greg wiping his tears, but he's still smiling like his face will split.

Sherlock's still hanging on tight to him!

Martha said...

Oh, I know this one, they walked out, arm in arm, and Nina Simone was singing Feeling Good.

Harry said...

Good song.

And there were tears all round in the end I think

pandabob said...

perfect music but then Greg took some time about finding it so how could it not be :-)

Anon Without A Name said...

Congratulations guys!

Hello Catherine, Martha, Harry, Nicky :-) Thank you all for keeping us updated, you must all be so very happy.

Greg Lestrade said...

I've got a husband on my arm, a ring on my finger and a smile on my face :)

John H. D. Watson said...

Thanks everyone - really couldn't be happier :)

Sherlock said...

when are we dancing?????

murray said...

Are you even going to tell him about the rings??

Greg Lestrade said...

....

?

Greg Lestrade said...

Ha! Wow.

At some point, my sneaky now-husband has had our rings engraved!

The date, and...his fingerprint? My fingerprint? A fingerprint, from our invites, I guess?

Joolz said...

Congratulations John and Greg - married men. Hope you have a fabulous life together.
Enjoy your day.. and night. ;-)

Have fun at the party Mycroft and Sherlock.
Thanks for all the updates and for letting us all share your day with you.

pandabob said...

fantastic news gents, I couldn't be happier for you both :-)

Thank you Martha, Harry, Nicky and Catherine we are lucky to have had you to keep us in touch :-)

Greg, John I hope you enjoy the rest of your lives together :-)

John H. D. Watson said...

L - yours on mine, mine on yours. Seemed appropriate?

Unknown said...

oh, so happy for you two! :) I'm just as smiley and teary-eyed as I always am at weddings!
S

Greg Lestrade said...

It's perfect, brilliant! Thank you.

You're amazing, John Hamish Danger Lestrade Watson. :)

Sherlock said...

daaaaaaaaaanciiiiiiiiiiing and confetti.

Trills said...

Congratulations!

*throws virtual confetti*

Olli said...

How on earth did you get an engraver to do fingerprints? That sounds beautiful, and so appropriate.

I shall have to hunt down Nicky's blog for the full playlist. Harry, I hope you won your bet. Greg, good choice on the Nina Simone. :)

Greg Lestrade said...

sooooooooon Sherlock.

And well done, you were a brilliant person to....not give me away. Escort me down the aisle. And you and Mycroft both look fantastic in your outfits. Very smart.

John H. D. Watson said...

Everyone did very well - even the dogs!

L - I'm really happy you like them. And that we're married. And just...generally really happy. I love you. :)

Mycroft said...

If anyone would like to listen, I have added the two songs to the original post Mrs Hudson wrote.

Greg Lestrade said...

I am incredibly happy :)

But we do still have to do our dance.... which is still terrifying!

(Thanks, Mycroft - there will be more to add!)

John H. D. Watson said...

Let's hope all the training has paid off...

Unknown said...

wait, Nicky has a blog too?
love the choices of music.
and the engraving on the rings is awesome!
S

Greg Lestrade said...

...I suddenly feel there should have been lots more training ;)

This has got to be the only wedding where having one's phone out was not just tolerated, but encouraged. :) Thanks, Mrs. H, for keeping us in the loop. The ceremony sounds like it was lovely. I hope you are now having a party with dancing and eating and laughing and joy. Congratulations, everyone!

Ella

Piplover said...

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you both. I hope you have a wonderful evening and an even better next few days.

*Throws confetti*

Anonymous said...

And I know this has been said elsewhere, but I forgot, I'm sorry--are you guys taking a honeymoon anywhere? Or just back to life?

Ella

Greg Lestrade said...

Ella - not yet. Back to life tomorrow, once we're home from our wedding night hotel :) we will go somewhere at some point, though.

I need more champagne before dancing...

pandabob said...

finding exactly the right level of champagne before dancing is the hard part ;-)

Kestrel337 said...

Popping in before going to lunch. It sounds like a lovely wedding, and the engravings made me a bit weepy. Have a great time at the party!

Much happiness for all the days to come.

Sherlock said...

They're going to do the dance!

Anonymous said...

It's almost a pity you're getting married in August. It's much harder for John to justify celebratory garish jumpers in August. ;)

Ella

Greg Lestrade said...

...I'm not fit enough to ever dance the twist ever again.

John H. D. Watson said...

I think once was enough!

Sherlock said...

and there's food now :)

Harry said...

That was the least uptight thing I've ever seen John do...

Greg Lestrade said...

Oh, I've seen him do far less uptight things than that ;)

harry said...

Don't tell me about them!!

Martha Hudson said...

ting ting ting speeeeeeeeeches!

Goodness, I'm certain to cry now, after this bubbly! I might need to borrow a gentleman's handkerchief.

John H. D. Watson said...

And Lestrade's got his guitar... I didn't know he was going to play...

Anonymous said...

I'm guessing that if John didn't cry at the exchange of rings, he might cry now... :)

(go on, John. It's all right.)

Ella

Martha Hudson said...

Oh goodness, well now he's set everyone off - some of the men too! What a beautiful song.

Nicky said...

That was...really very very touching. Spandrella - John definitely had a few tears slipping down his face.

pandabob said...

how utterly wonderful Greg!

Anonymous said...

What song was it?

Mycroft said...

I've put it on the original post for you all, Spandrella, so you can all listen.

Anonymous said...

Lovely. Thanks, Mycroft. :)

Yeah if someone sang that Who song to me I'd be bawling.

Ella

Sherlock said...

I didn't cry but everyone else did nearly and soon there will be cake :)

Mazarin said...

Oh, it all sounds so wonderful! Congratulations, all of you! *throws confetti*

Martha Hudson said...

Oh, it's all so lovely, dears. I wish you could all be here to see it! The cake has purple flowers on it too.

The room is lovely and light, and there's a bar just through the way. Everyone's dancing now, and there's food out if you're peckish.

I'm going to have a dance with Murray in a minute!

And even though some times it's been raining cats and dogs outside, you wouldn't care in here, because it's so full of happiness and good humour.

Joolz said...

Oh gosh that is just a beautiful song, Greg, great choice for a great guy.

x

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks. It seemed...fitting. He has stood by me, and carried me, and always been on my side. And now...well, we're by each others' sides. :) For a long time, I hope!

pandabob said...

Mind your feet Martha, make sure he doesn't damage your toes ;-)

Being indoors at a cheery party on a rainy day is very nice, somehow. And weddings in winter are nice, but summer's better, I think.

What a beautiful day! Congratulations. Sherlock, your walking Greg down the aisle and holding his hand through the ceremony is the part that I keep thinking about, I love it so much.

Mycroft, thank you so much for posting the music. I hope that you've enjoyed it, and I find myself wondering what it was like to be in that ceremony. You know, if you're ever in the mood to talk about it. Have an excellent evening, everyone!

Greg Lestrade said...

Mrs Hudson is a demon on the dance floor! And she keeps pinching people's bums.

John H. D. Watson said...

I think she's had slightly too much champagne...possibly I have too... I promise only to pinch your bum though.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm fairly sure there's only such a thing as 'too much champagne' on your wedding day if certain....things stop working ;)

She made me do another twist. I may be good for nothing come morning.

John H. D. Watson said...

Is that Mrs Holmes dancing??

Sherlock said...

AftSO it's because they said I could give him away but I didn't want to give him away I want to keep him too so John said I should hold his hand then and not let go and then he wasn't given away really because I still had him and I've eaten cake and danced and I don't want Lestrade and John to go.

Greg Lestrade said...

With your Dad?,.... yeah. HA!

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, sorry Sherlock, but we are going to be going soon.

But Mrs H...or Mycroft... will look after you. And we'll see you tomorrow!

pandabob said...

I suspect you couldn't give Lestrade or John away even if you tried really hard Sherlock but it was a good plan to keep hold of him just in case :-)

Greg, John have a wonderful first night of married life together, the day sounds like it has been what you hoped it would be and that is really wonderful :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks - it has been lovely.

And we're really going to go, and enjoy our lovely hotel. And each other ;)

Nicky said...

You, Gregory Martin Finchley Watson Lestrade are the soppiest bloke I've ever met.

And a great brother.

We're meeting up with Sherlock, Mycroft, Murray and Mrs Hudson in the morning, for breakfast. Sherlock seems a bit lost without you two, but Murray's currently sword fighting him...very carefully... and I'm sure he'll be fine. There are vast promises being made to him, by Murray.

It was a fantastic day, even if you did both make us all cry!

Enjoy your first night of wedded bliss ;)

EchoOfMe said...

Congratulations to everyone! What a lovely day.

Anon Without A Name said...

You did the twist!?! Braver men than I :-)

I notice you've changed your blog title already, Lestrade. Sloppy sod ;-p

It sounds like a wonderful day all round. Have a lovely night, gents, and I hope the champagne doesn't bite anyone to hard tomorrow morning.

Anonymous said...

I keep coming back here just to look at the changes you have made L, they make me smile.

Congratulations both of you, here's to a happy, wonderful life for the two of you

Congrats to both, it sounds like a perfectly lovely day.

ro said...

Ahhhh. So I've been grinning like a fool while I've read through all of this! Thanks so much for helping us to take part in your day, guys! The music is all excellent, and thanks to Mycroft for putting up the links. John and Lestrade, so many congratulations, and best wishes for the happiest of futures!

REReader said...

Like ro, this whole post-and-comments made me so happy to read! I love the engraving on the rings, John (nice job keeping L from seeing that before the wedding! :)) and singing and playing that song for John was beautiful, L.

Thank you for putting the music on the blog for us, Mycroft! And Sherlock, I think you are quite right--holding on to Lestrade is so VERY much nicer than giving him away.

John and Lestrade--I wish you a life together full of love and joy and fun and laughter.

rsf said...

I'll second the thank you for the music, Mycroft, and thank you all for sharing this with us. It's been a wonderful day.)

And even CAPTCHA agrees you should GOHAPPPY!

Anonymous said...

But was there glitter? :D

Congratulations!

Small Hobbit said...

I have been following on my phone, which makes commenting difficult. Congratulations!

Mycroft said...

Murray is suffering this morning. Excessive alcohol and an early morning wake up call from Sherlock is not what he's used to.

Small Hobbit said...

I trust he's not expecting any sympathy :)

Greg Lestrade said...

We're awake, going to find the rest of the gang. Had a lovely night :)

Thanks for all the good wishes, everyone. Now starting my first day as a Watson! ;)

rsf said...

I see you've updated your blog header too! Do you feel any different?

I hope you all have a wonderful time today, and that everyone has recovered from the wedding celebrations. A week ago today I was at the "present opening brunch" for my nephew's wedding, and it amuses me far too much to think of you lot sitting around removing the wrapping from towels and cooking gear and trying not to break the bows.

:D

REReader said...

...And someone making hats with bits of all the wrappings! :D

Greg Lestrade said...

Updated a few things, when we got to the hotel last night ;)

I don't know if I feel different - just happy! Wearing my ring with great pride :)

pandabob said...

Happy is good Greg and that not being different to how you felt before the wedding is even better :-D

I hope you've all had a wonderful day together :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, thanks been seeing the families today. Kept sneaking kisses from my husband, getting told to get a room by rude relatives ;)

REReader said...

Hee hee!

Er, I mean I'm sure it was uncalled for, totally uncalled for. ;)

(You sound so happy, it's lovely. :))

rsf said...

So quiet here yesterday! Guess you two found that room. :D

Anonymous said...

Congratulations, John and Greg! I've been following your blogs for quite a time but usually felt too shy to comment. But this is such a beautiful occasion I'll just send my best brightest wishes along of everyone else - and my cheers to everyone else involved in the festivities.

Greg Lestrade said...

Thank you.

It's been amazing knowing you lot are all rooting for us, and have been all this time.

We're just about getting back to normal now, family all leaving to head home.

pandabob said...

safe trip to them all and good luck getting back to 'normal' :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Reg just have us two blueberry bushes as a wedding present :)

Sherlock is desperate for us to open other ones at home :)

REReader said...

What a lovely wedding gift!

(How can you leave wrapped presents just sitting there?! They NEED to be opened!)

:D

(But they DO!)

pandabob said...

No allotment is complete without matching blueberry bushes :-)

opening presents is exciting but I hope Sherlock let's you two have a go ;-)

Kestrel337 said...

What's the bet on duplicates? At our wedding I think my sister took the pool with four of a single item. (Coffee makers, in case you were wondering)

Though I suppose it's probably a bit different in that you aren't just starting your household.

John H. D. Watson said...

I don't honestly think L would mind four coffee makers!

Greg Lestrade said...

I wouldn't! One for every room ;)

We did say no presents required.... Obviously we still have lots :)

Tina said...

Congratulations and all the best for the future! It does sound like a wonderful wedding - and the engravings on the rings are truly inspired! (and no, one can't have too many coffee makers :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

The engravings are amazing. I'm incredibly touched that John thought of it.

RR - presents will probably be opened later tonight. Too many friends and family to see before, and too much good weather today.

REReader said...

Too be honest, I'm in favor of everything that stretches out celebrations. :)

REReader said...

Did everyone go back home this evening, or are some family members/friends staying a bit longer?

Hope you had a lovely day!
