back to reality...

Back in London. Traffic chaos, sirens, fumes... can we go back to Dorset?

Although it was amusing listening to my sister squeal down the phone to Danger whilst I tried not to swear whilst guiding the biggest vehicle in the world through tiny gaps in angry traffic. Danger took it all very well, and even managed to get some organising done in-between Nicky going wild about us moving in together.

I offered to drive so you could talk to her instead! It's lovely she's so happy for us though.

Greg Lestrade said...

I never know what to say. You did fine. I was just wishing for the bike, not that tank, to cut through the traffic.

John H. D. Watson said...

I was wishing for an actual tank. That was madness.

Sherlock said...

John can you make it so Lestrade doesn't have to go to work tomorrow? We could go straight to Nicky's and it would be good.

John H. D. Watson said...

I can't, no. He has responsibilities at work. He has to go in. And we have things we need to do before we leave a well. Mainly laundry.

Sherlock said...

But you could just say he was sick!

Laundry is boring. Mrs Hudson could do it and we could all go to the park.

John H. D. Watson said...

If you help me with the laundry there should be plenty of time for both.

Bronwyn said...

I like doing laundry because it end up warm and cuddly and smelling of lemongrass and verbena. Mmmmmm.

Sherlock said...

But I want to go to the park with you and Mycroft AND Lestrade! Work it stupid. Now Lestrade lives with us Mummy can pay for everything and he doesn't need to go to work any more.

John H. D. Watson said...

Money isn't the only reason people work, love. Maybe you should ask Lestrade if he wants to go in tomorrow.

Sherlock said...

He said he didn't want to! He wanted to stay in a cave and hunt a mammoth. Even though mammoth don't exist any more. There were lots of cows though. He could hunt a cow.

Why would you work if you didn't get paid?

John H. D. Watson said...

Because you know you're doing the right thing, or helping people, or because you love what you do. Lots of reasons.

Greg Lestrade said...

Because it's important to people who've had crimes committed against them that the person who did it is caught, Sherlock.

I don't mind going really. And I'm looking forward to next weekend a lot.

Sherlock said...

I don't want a job that means I have to do it when I don't want to.

Can I sleep in my sleeping bag tonight?

John H. D. Watson said...

If you like. In your room though, not down here.

Sherlock said...

But we could all sleep down here, as if we were still camping.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm really looking forward to a nice soft mattress though, kiddo.

John H. D. Watson said...

Me as well.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yes, looking forward to you as well. :)

Sherlock said...

We could all sleep in your room then!

Bronwyn said...

That is an amazing solution, Sherlock. Though maybe you can build a pillow fort in your room and sleep there. It could be like your own cave!
TTFN,
Bronwyn

Greg Lestrade said...

Er... no. You need to sleep in your room.

John H. D. Watson said...

Everyone is sleeping in their own rooms.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm suddenly especially glad that I now officially live here, or that statement would mean I had to trek back to South London.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha. Everyone under 20 is sleeping in their own rooms. You can sleep wherever you like, although I know where I'd prefer you to sleep.

Tink said...

I hope Sherlock is in his own bed asleep at this point :D

I've missed you guys, I really have. I'm glad you've had fun on your vacation and I hope that you are relaxed (other than the thought of a mountain of laundry ahead of you!) <3

Greg Lestrade said...

I am definitely sleeping in 'our' room. And have a stupid grin on my face now.

John H. D. Watson said...

Mmhmm. Our bed, and our room, with solid walls, etc. Lovely.

Small Hobbit said...

And no sound of snoring dog?

Tink, hope you're fully recovered now.

Greg Lestrade said...

Nope, Mycroft gets snoring dogs to himself.

This probably sounds stupid, but it feels different now I can call this place 'home', instead of 'yours'.

John H. D. Watson said...

Not stupid. It feels different to me too.

Greg Lestrade said...

What you said goes both ways though - you want the place to yourself again, you just have to say.

John H. D. Watson said...

All right. But I definitely don't.

Anon Without A Name said...

Awww, lookit you guys, being all cute and cohabiting :-)

Tinks - feeling better? Have you recovered OK?

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, not now, but...you know, just...say.

Nameless - yeah, never thought I'd do this again.

John H. D. Watson said...

All right. Come to bed now?

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah.

Try and remember how to do my job...hope it all comes back to me in a dream.

John H. D. Watson said...

I'm trying to forget how to do laundry. Sure you don't want to go back to Dorset and hunt woolly mammoths?

Greg Lestrade said...

I do want to! But I can't. Really need to sort things out at work for the few days I'm there for, before Nicky's and finally back to work properly.

John H. D. Watson said...

Yeah, I know. I feel a bit like Sherlock, I suppose, not wanting it to be over quite yet.

Lupe said...

Awwwwwww you guys. :)

Rider said...

I feel a bit like Sherlock

Does this mean you will jump on him and demand things?

Greg Lestrade said...

Why is it just when you really want to sleep, you can't.

I don't want to think about work until tomorrow. Well, later today. but my mind keeps churning away

Anonymous said...

Is John already asleep? I'd think he knows a few ways to turn your brain off. ...

I feel your pain though. After a fairly slack summer the work is starting to pile up again and I just want to retreat to the mountains and ignore it all.

innie said...

L, if you're still awake, you might want to plot out how best to hunt those devious cows. Or am I the only one who finds that image absolutely hilarious?

Anonymous said...

Mmhmm. Our bed, and our room,

When I was a little tiny thing, I thought that all houses had an "our room." My mom would tell me to go put that book in our room, or that I couldn't have that pillow because it belonged in our room... In my mind, houses had kitchens, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, and our rooms.

Sherlock, I too recommend building your own fort in your bedroom. Cushions and sleeping bags make excellent nests and a sheet can serve as either a ceiling or doorway. It makes a nice place in which to curl up whenever adults or siblings are being frustrating and you need a place to read, review your options, or just be alone for a bit.

Greg Lestrade said...

KHolly - yeah, he was asleep. And will have needed it, I reckon. I imagine Sherlock will be a force of nature today. And Mycroft needs things sorting out for school. No peace for Nanny John.

mazarin221b said...

It's odd, hearing you call him Nanny John. I forget, most of the time, that John is being paid to basically stand in loco parentis for Mrs. Holmes. I guess because you guys seem more like a family than a bald reading of the circumstances would suggest. Which is good, especially for Mycroft and Sherlock.

Tink said...

I am indeed feeling lots better guys! Thank you all for asking <3 While I don't feel up to running just yet, I can take long walks without getting too tired or winded. Silly lungs.

Congrats on having an 'our room'!

(Mme Violet: I thought the same thing!)

John H. D. Watson said...

Tink - I probably don't need to tell you like I'd have to tell Lestrade, but don't push yourself too hard, all right? Very glad you're feeling better.

Rider - you ask that as though I don't do that normally...

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, easy to forget his hours are longer than mine, and days off few and far between.

John H. D. Watson said...

It's not quite the same though.

Greg Lestrade said...

I wouldn't say the boys are any less work than the criminals of London.

Tink said...

But you do get more hugs out of the boys...

John: I'll do my best! I'm probably just as stubborn as Greg, but as my brother has pretty much moved in to keep an eye on me, I don't think I'll be able to! He's clucking like a mother hen over me and I have to admit I'm loving almost every minute of it :D (Not so much when I want to escape and he's standing there with his arms across his chest and not understanding why I want to go walk to the bookstore...)

John H. D. Watson said...

Tink - ha, excellent. I'm glad you've got someone to look after you.

L - maybe not less work, but a lot more fun.

Tink said...

John: I admit to being glad I've got my brother back more than ever. When I was at my worst in the hospital he was with me pretty much every spare moment. Nice to have someone caring about me that much. He climbed in the bed with me more than once, but kept getting kicked out by the nurses... I have a picture taken by one of the nurses of us fast asleep (just before she woke us up and kicked him out of the bed), our foreheads touching, looking more than ever like the twins we are. If fraternal twins could be identical, that's us in that picture! I keep going awwww over it.

Greg Lestrade said...

Okay, i'll give you that they're more fun.

Glad it's all going so well with your brother, Tink.

Tink said...

So how did work go? And thank you, this experience has been an interesting one to be sure. I'll be glad to kick him out of the house once I'm all better though :P Then I'll be able to walk where I like!

I think the boys could (and do?) cause as much mayhem as the criminals, but in a much more well meaning way! (Has Sherlock created the web for Spider yet?)
