Spinning around!

Lestrade says that's a song and he uses songs to do his titles and that's what we did today. This is Sherlock.

First Lestrade went to work but after he helped me get breakfast and it's lucky he can do eggs with one hand because that meant he could do breakfast and then he went to work and not for too long because he came back and John said he'd go and get Lestrade's bike and that made Lestrade smile lots.

Anyway then because John had to go on the Tube Lestrade said we should go and do something so we went to the river and there were lots of people. There was a big stall with old books on and lots of food and people just walking around and first we went on the giant chairs and then Lestrade said we could go on the BIG ride so we did and here's a picture we took after we went on it to show you and John:

It's really really really high up and you can see loads and you spin around and around even when you're going up and down but mainly when you're at the top. It was brilliant and I want to go again! And afterwards we got ice cream because Lestrade said I would be sick if I had it first but I wouldn't have been.

And then after a bit we went home because we thought John might be back and he was and he wants to go on it too he said and I said I'd take him but Lestrade wants to take him too.

Now Mrs Hudson is looking after me and she said she wouldn't want to go on it at all and John has taken Lestrade out to dinner I think because Lestrade is sad about his hand and his case that's just legs and I read in the news they belong to a really little baby so that's not very nice. And then Lestrade being sad makes John sad as well as he's probably lonely now we're all at school and work again. But I think dinner with John and pudding and having his bike back will make Lestrade happier and going on the ride again will too especially with John and my birthday will make everyone happy because I bet we'll go somewhere brilliant and I hope maybe camping and the animal park.

It sounds like you all had a lovely day Sherlock, I'm glad you had fun with Lestrade :-)(and that he's got his bike back :-) )

Are you doing anything special with Mrs Hudson?

Anonymous said...

Wow! That ride looks amazing. I want to go on it and I've got an ocean in the way!

I hope Lestrade feels better now that you and he have had some fun, and he is out having dinner and some time with John. You're right, his case sounds really sad. I hope that by your birthday there are some clues that will help him resolve it. (Camping would be nice too.)

I'm drawing and I'm teaching Mrs Hudson not to be scared of the degus. She's feeding them but she doesn't like it when they move fast.

pandabob said...

what a lovely way to spend the evening Sherlock. Mrs Hudson is getting really brave with the degus you must be a really good teacher :-)

Sherlock said...

I had to put them away because she says that I'm not allowed degus for my half hour of being calm and we're going to read a book instead. But she is better now with them and lets them sit in her hand if she's at a table or something.

RSF I hope he solves it too and I bet he will and I hope John finds something fun to do when I'm at school like being a doctor again because he likes that.

That ride looks really fun, but I don't know if I could handle it! You're braver than me, Sherlock, I'm terrified of heights!

It sounds like you've been very good for Lestrade today, and I agree, I think being with John and having his bike back will make him a bit happier.

I hope you all have a good day tomorrow.

pandabob said...

Sleep well when you get to bed Sherlock :-)

John, Greg I saw this and it made me think of you two

Greg Lestrade said...

Good night, Sherlock. Sleep well. And come and wake us up in the morning.

Sherlock said...

I will!!!!!

Greg Lestrade said...

Right, good. Just go to sleep now for Mrs H. And have some amazing dreams.

Greg Lestrade said...

John's locking up the bike. He's been amazing.

As much as I love spending time with the boys, it's nice to have a bit of time with John, too. Especially as I feel like he's not been getting the best of me recently.

And now I really need to fall into bed.

pandabob said...

I'm glad you had a good time together :-)

Sleep well.

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks.

Sherlock is asleep cuddling a book about planets and a book about common diseases of 19th Century Cities, squashed in the corner of his bed with a pillow, in what looks like a very awkward position. But he's asleep, which is the main thing!

And will undoubtedly be excited to see us in the morning.

Greg Lestrade said...

...I'm half expecting Sherlock to charge through the door any minute now...

Anonymous said...

Did Sherlock acquire his books at the bookstall by the river?

rsf

Greg Lestrade said...

No, they were ones we already owned.

REReader said...

Good morning, L. :)

Sherlock, you write such good blog posts! That big ride looks amazing. (I can't decide whether I think I'd like it or not--I love airplanes, the smaller the better, but I'm not great with heights out in the open, and I don't know what category my brain would put it in. I'll have to go and see if I ever make it back to London. :).) And it's very good indeed, the way you notice what makes the people you love happy and want it for them. I bet your birthday does make the whole family happy!

pandabob said...

How early were you up this morning Sherlock? I bet lestrade and John were happy to see you whatever time it was ;-)

Have another fun day all of you :-)

Sherlock said...

I got out of bed at 36 minutes past 5 and Lestrade was already up anyway! So we made me milk and Lestrade coffee and John tea and woke him up too.

Anonymous said...

That's a nice early start to the day. Was the sun even up yet?

rsf (who could probably look up the answer but is too sleepy still to figure out the latitude and longitude.)

REReader said...

That is a very early start, especially for the weekend! Are you doing something fun today, Sherlock?

pandabob said...

That's even earlier than mine Sherlock but if lestrade was up he was probably very pleased to see you :-)

Enjoy your day

Sherlock said...

We're in the park but I can't say which one.

Anonymous said...

You can tell us afterwards. Enjoy the trees and the grass! (Unless it's a skateboard park, in which case enjoy the concrete and the wheels.)

rsf

Sherlock said...

It's not but people do have skateboards and horses and I've got my bike but I can't ride really fast because I have to think about other people and not scare them.

John H. D. Watson said...

And you're doing very well at that, Sherlock. Thank you.

REReader said...

That sounds like fun to me! Enjoy yourselves. :)

Sherlock said...

Yes I am can we have ice cream now and paddle?

Anonymous said...

Yes,and you don't want to scare tge horses either.

rsf

John H. D. Watson said...

We can have ice cream anyway. Lestrade looks like he'd kill for a coffee.

Greg Lestrade said...

Isn't that my default look?

John H. D. Watson said...

No, it's usually more like you'd just be prepared to be really grumpy at someone until they handed over the coffee.

Greg Lestrade said...

My face's default position is really grumpy. Even when I'm not feeling that way.

John H. D. Watson said...

It's not really, I promise. You smile more than you think you do, at least around us.

Greg Lestrade said...

Well who could resist smiling around you? :)

I think getting my glasses helped. Means I'm not scowling at my paperwork because I can't read it and am really squinting in a scowly-way. Now I just scowl at it when it needs scowling at.

John H. D. Watson said...

Paperwork does tend to need frequent scowling to keep it in line.

Greg Lestrade said...

It does.

Fancy getting cold feet with me? Sit on the wall and dip our feet in the water? It's the only way I'll get cold feet near you...

John H. D. Watson said...

And try to keep Sherlock from dipping his entire self in? All right.

Greg Lestrade said...

Well... we'll roll up his trousers and he should be okay bar a few splashes.

Greg Lestrade said...

..yeah, okay, that was just tempting fate, wasn't it? I hold my hands up.

Anonymous said...

Is the pond where you're paddling the kind with mud on the bottom or is it like the Frog Pond in Boston (which, alas, no longer has any frogs), lined with concrete so the depth is consistently shallow?

(They do turn it into a skating rink come winter, though.)

Hmm. Now I want to go paddle, while it's still warm enough!

stone, different depths. flowing. Mostly now soaked into Sherlock's clothing, hair, etc.

he now as my shirt on, his shoes, and looks like a small bedraggled boy in a nightgown.

and I look like I have odd fashion sense.

REReader said...

Altogether it sounds like a completely successful day! I'm very glad you've all had such a good time. :)

I'm cooking and cleaning and otherwise getting everything ready for Rosh Hashanah, which I'm going to spend by myself, since we were able to find somewhere for my mother to stay near my father's hospital but not me. (It's not a bad thing really--I'll be in the synagogue until 2:30 or 3:00 anyway both days, so there's not much time at home, and by then "alone" will sound really good. It's just odd.)

Small Hobbit said...

Sounds like you all had a good day. I'm at a loss to understand why you thought Sherlock wouldn't get very wet. And we've seen plenty of pictures of your odd fashion sense, so I doubt this is any stranger (although for anyone who hasn't had our advantage this may be true.)

I can't decide whether or not I'd like the big ride - if I could convince myself it was okay I'd be fine. I can walk across the glass floor in the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.

We were in London yesterday and went to see Nigel Kennedy at the Royal Festival Hall. He's definitely a violinist who can make a lot of noise.

I'm glad you've found somewhere for your mother to stay RR. I'm sure you'd rather be able to celebrate with your family, but it sounds like you have found a reasonable solution.

Anonymous said...

Well if it's stone, at least nothing will have climbed into his pockets. Probably. I'm guessing that it's too chilly to just let him dry off naturally. Is he the sort of child who takes an oversized shirt as an excuse to flap and run and test wind resistance?

rsf

John H. D. Watson said...

and I look like I have odd fashion sense.

You look fine!

Greg Lestrade said...

...no middle aged men should wear what amounts to a skin-tight t-shirt. I look like a very ill-advised poser!

RSF - no, nothign but more water in pockets. And he was quite subdued about having to wear my shirt.

SH - yeah, no idea why we thought it would be a good idea without a handy change of clothes. Something about 99% of other kids managing to only get slightly damp around the edges? But then, who wants to be the 99%?

REReader said...

who wants to be the 99%?

THIS!!!!

(Thanks, SH. Yeah, could've been worse.)

Sherlock said...

I didn't mean to fall in that bit that was really deep! I was looking at the water and it was a steep bit and slippery and it should still be summer than I could have dried out and not worn Lestrade's stupid shirt that had arms way too long.

John H. D. Watson said...

L - I think you look pretty good actually... and Sherlock looks rather sweet in your shirt.

REReader said...

It's okay, Sherlock, I believe you didn't mean to fall in, and I'm sure John and Lestrade do, too. And it's just water, it'll dry, even if it takes a bit longer (not being summer). Okay?

Greg Lestrade said...

You're biased because it's your t-shirt. :) You can see the top of my boxers when I move - how is that a good look for someone who's nearly 50?? I'm a coppa, not a gangsta!

RR - on a fairly cold, windy day in London, I'd like to be the dry 99%, not the wet 1%. There's a time and a place to be different... choosing it is a skill.

Sherlock, we know you didn't mean to. And if we'd known we'd be paddling we would have brought spare clothes so you wouldn't need to wear my shirt.

REReader said...

I'm sure you'll be part of the dry 99% fairly soon, L. :) (And I'm sure you look very stylish.)

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm dry anyway - well, slightly damp because Sherlock shook himself off like the dogs do, spraying everyone in the vicinity. It's him who's soggy.

And no, whilst John may be biased enough to enjoy the look, that doesn't make it remotely stylish. Just means he likes me in tight clothing.

Anonymous said...

I know you didn't mean to fall in, Sherlock. That was one of the reasons I asked about the bottom. Sudden deep bits make paddling more exciting, but they make it more soggy too. I hope your clothes dry off soon and you can get comfortable.

I used to like wearing big shirts because I could hold my arms out and let the wind push me along and it felt funny. That's probably why I like sailing now.

L, I'm not even going to ask why you're wearing John's t-shirt. Not when you got up at oh-dark-thirty. If it's cold and windy though, are there any hot coffee/tea/cocoa vendors around?

rsf

pandabob said...

I always had the ability to get soaking wet whenever we were anywhere near water Sherlock which meant I spent many trips home wearing my dads jumper. I didn't mean to get wet it just always turned out that way!

You all sound like you've had a lovely day which is really nice to see :-) I hope the fun continues :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

We're home now - piled into a cab once the Little Shermaid was vaguely dry and decent. Although I was ready to pull my badge if anyone asked what two blokes were doing shepherding a barely-dressed young boy into a cab, out of a park...call me paranoid, but I might have been suspicious if I'd seen us.

RSF - my shirt had highest chance of keeping Sherlock covered. John's t shirt then became mine, and he wore just his jumper. His t-shirt is just a bit short for me. And tight. In the wrong places.

But John's right, Sherlock did look quite sweet swamped in my shirt, with his trainers sticking out the bottom.

REReader said...

That is an image that just warms my heart...thanks for the very big smile! :)

John H. D. Watson said...

In the wrong places.

It was all accurate up to this part.

REReader said...

:D

In case things get horribly hectic later, let me take a minute now to wish the entire Holmes-Watson-Lestrade menage a happy Rosh Hashanah--here's hoping the coming year brings you all happiness and fun and love and all good things. And the same to all my commenter/reader friends here! :)

If you've a mind to mark the occasion, traditionally Jews have honey on Rosh Hashanah, to symbolize a sweet year ahead--by drizzling some honey on apple slices at the start of the evening holiday meal, and with honey cake.

Greg Lestrade said...

Happy Rosh Hashanah to you too.

Danger - no one needs to see my belly in a tight top! Just highlights how crap we've been at getting out and running. Again. Although I think you've secretly been sneaking out or something, because you're still gorgeous and lithe. And given the amount of cakes and biscuits you and the boy wonder eat... in fact, I'm going to remain adamant now that there's something you two aren't telling me! Paintings in the attic?? Secret fitness classes after school?

John H. D. Watson said...

Happy Rosh Hashanah, RR. Honey cake sounds very nice.

L - I secretly eat salads while you're at work I'm afraid.

no one needs to see my belly in a tight top!

No, you're right, without a shirt entirely is better.

Greg Lestrade said...

Generally, I'm against police brutality.

But I may be forced to scraggle you in a minute.

John H. D. Watson said...

Just stating my perfectly valid and well informed opinion, DI GQMF.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, yeah, Dr BAMF. Judge won't be calling you as an expert witness.

John H. D. Watson said...

I can't see why not, I'm clearly the most qualified on the subject at hand.

REReader said...

Thank you both! Perhaps you'll be able to manage a honey cake tomorrow. :)

(And L, I think John makes a valid point--he clearly IS the most qualified person to make a judgement on the question!)

Greg Lestrade said...

Clearly got a massive conflict of interests.

John H. D. Watson said...

Nonsense. Just an appropriate enthusiasm for my specialty.

Greg Lestrade said...

Hostile witness, M'lud. I ask that his comments be struck from the record.

REReader said...

Pretty much the exact opposite of hostlie...

Anonymous said...

He doesn't sound at all hostile to me!

Small Hobbit said...

Inspector Lestrade, you are not helping your case by protesting so much.

Greg Lestrade said...

Detective Inspector. And I've got a feeling some members of this jury aren't exactly unbiased, either.

REReader said...

What a thing to say! *bats eyelashes*

HM said...

I'm sure you looked awful Greg if that helps? ;)

Greg Lestrade said...

And I'm pretty sure someone needs to tell them what a hostile witness is, too...

Dr Watson, is it not true that you know the defendant? And that you are, in being 'the person he kisses', completely biased on this subject?

Greg Lestrade said...

Thank you! HM, you may take your place on the jury. Pop along and get sworn in :)

John H. D. Watson said...

I think I might've been biased considerably before I was the person he kisses, actually.

Greg Lestrade said...

Indeed. I rest my case.

(Although would point out, for the sake of accuracy in the court's records, that he didn't know me that long before I became the person he kisses.)

John H. D. Watson said...

Seemed like forever at the time.

Greg Lestrade said...

Hah, was I that terrifying?

Anonymous said...

After all the swimming and chasing after Sherlock in Spain, I'm quite sure that a tight t-shirt looked just fine on you -- and showed off your tan. I'll admit to hoping that it didn't show off your boxers too much though. I put up with enough of that from the teens at work.

Have a good holiday, RR! I hope everything goes well for you and your parents.

rsf

John H. D. Watson said...

No, there just never seemed to be a good opportunity!

Greg Lestrade said...

Ah, so you only pounce when your prey is at rest, on a sofa... not at the watering hole, pouring coffee down his throat?

John H. D. Watson said...

Hey, I was only talking about kissing, not any sofa related activities...

Greg Lestrade said...

Kissing was definitely one sofa related activity. In fact, I believe it was the start of a slippery slope....err...well, slippery something, anyway.

I clearly should've tried to be more gentlemanly sooner, and offered to walk you home whilst trying not to sound like I didn't mean...walk you home. Hard to do when you live in completely the opposite direction, though.

John H. D. Watson said...

You managed it admirably, I thought. Despite the small audience looking on through the upstairs window.

Greg Lestrade said...

I can't believe Sherlock's going to be seven...

And thank you. Um...so did you. I skipped home. After sending longing looks back at your front door all the way to the end of the street. (Sherlock leant out of the window and stuck his tongue out at me. In a way which clearly said 'We've got him and you haven't.')

Small Hobbit said...

I should point out to you Detective Inspector that this jury is generally of the opinion that it's always your fault whilst the Doc is innocent.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yep, horribly biased and prejudiced, SH!

Oh, and my poll has closed.

SO I can tell you that...well, some of you don't get a gold star on your badges.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha. I'm not surprised, somehow. I can't believe he's going to be seven either. It's almost as big a shock as Mycroft suddenly being 14.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah. You're still in your 30s, right? ;)

Which way did you vote in my poll, Danger? I don't want to make you feel bad...

John H. D. Watson said...

I was wavering, but I think I went with fingerprints in the end.

Anonymous said...

I went for DNA. I might be a bit biased as I'm studying for a degree in genetics. But I also remember this case all too well: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-17771778

REReader said...

I went for DNA on the assumption that while fingerprints would probably be more useful for solving a case (there are more fingerprints than DNA sequences on record), DNA would probably be better for making a case, as being more convincing to jurors in these CSI days.

Greg Lestrade said...

(I have done a new post, with the explanation, if you're interested, any of you who voted.)
