And make believe it's wonderland

We went and saw Mycroft today - in the snow. Snow came even earlier than predicted. So it was a cold and slightly slippery ride up there. But we were all fine.

Mycroft helped me do this - by which I mean, put a picture on my phone, and then provide evidence of this...I don't even know.

I do know that I immediately fell prey to some autocorrect. I emailed myself this image, to use in this blog, using the subject 'Jmob' - makes sense, right? J on my mobile?

Yeah, so when a photo of my lovely boyfriend arrived in my inbox with the title 'Knob'...well, it wasn't intended!

That's a picture of him from our little holiday this year, looking...well, very very attractive.

We took the dogs out (in the snow), threw a lot of snowballs (they're hilarious when they try to catch them), warmed up with hot chocolate...went out in more snow, then had some lunch, got even more snowy, and went to Anthea's to drop off the dogs (and warm up.)

The boys are plotting something 'secret'...hmmm.

We came home (through even heavier snow), and warmed up by making cheese scones - well, Sherlock made them really.

And now I'm making risotto for dinner, and Sherlock seems to be diving around in the living room involved in some sort of fantasy snowball fight. John is wandering around trying to bring order to the flat and make me wear socks...

Sounds like a lovely day. :)

what a lovely picture and the scones look lovely as well.

You sound like you've had a lovely day, hopefully the evening will be as good :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, he looks very relaxed, doesn't he?

We had a great day. I'm off tomorrow, too. Was thinking about going to see Mum, but I won't if the roads are a bit treacherous still. Not worth the risk.

Mmmmm .... scones! It must be a scone kinda weekend. I made a batch of blueberry scones on Friday and a batch of buttermilk currant scones yesterday.

And that photo of John is lovely. Just remember, L., that you can't spend all your time staring at your phone (though that photo makes it tempting, I know) ;)

Sounds like you all had a great day! I'm here dealing with snow squalls, hail, and just about everything Mother Nature can throw at us. I've got to head out on the roads later ... wish me luck!

Wasn't trying to make you wear them, you said your feet were cold...

pandabob said...

you can't go around making helpful suggestions John, that just won't do ;-)

John H. D. Watson said...

I suppose he might be objecting because I put the socks on his head.

pandabob said...

were his ears cold as well?

John H. D. Watson said...

They might've been...

pandabob said...

then that was very helpful of you and he really shouldn't be complaining ;-)

Greg Lestrade said...

my feet have perma-frost, and socks are horrible!

John H. D. Watson said...

I think you keep them cold on purpose so you can warm them up on me.

Greg Lestrade said...

no, but you do keep you around to warm them up ;)

Sherlock said...

Can you get some of the snow wax you talked about for me to take to school?

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm not sure I can, kiddo. I'll ask the SOCO team if they have any left over or going out of date they can't use, okay?

pandabob said...

snow wax???

Sherlock said...

Lestrade says they use snow wax and it's so they can get a footprint in the snow of someone bad who's done a crime and then before it melts they can spray it with wax and then it's easy to take photographs of and also to pour in something and take a cast of the print like in mud but it means the snow won't melt and I want some.

pandabob said...

that sounds brilliant Sherlock I think I might want some as well :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Lyrical Singer - hope your scones were as good as ours.

Be careful out in the snow/ice.

Sherlock - the met doesn't just have these things for you you know. I can't just nick stuff for you. Sorry.

pandabob said...

how bad is the snow down there? are you going to be suffering school closures in the morning?

(I hope Sherlock went to bed on time and isn't awake to see this question)

Are you having a relaxing evening? I hope snow exhaustion helps with the sleep thing Greg :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Some places might, but not in the city. We maybe got three or four inches today, but the main roads are clear. Just got to take care on icy patches. And thanks, I was okay last night, when I finally got to sleep.

Piplover said...

Sherlock, did you know that you can use hairspray to do the same thing as the snowwax? It won't be nearly as effective, but if there is nothing else around, hairspray will keep the imprint intact so you can take pictures. Not sure about how well it would keep for the molding, however.

Jaws said...

Hope you sleep better tonight L, and as a nearly-married man are you going to be doing another Lestallion's Love Column soon? :P

Greg Lestrade said...

Ha, maybe? Depends if people want me to, I suppose.

I frequently feel like the least qualified person ever.

REReader said...

If you're ever shocked by any of the questions, it doesn't show, which I should think is a major qualification. And your answers always sound very sensible to me. (Although I admit I'm as far from an expert as it is possible to be! :))

...How are you even coherent at 5:00 am?!

Greg Lestrade said...

We, no, no ones shocked me yet.

Small Hobbit said...

Seconding Jaws' suggestion, following the success of previous Lestrade's Upstanding Love Column.

Anon Without A Name said...

no ones shocked me yet.

Sounds like a challenge :-p

Greg Lestrade said...

RR - was coherent at 5 because of one small child and one large headache.

Nameless - just don't shock the boys or the doc too much, or I shall have the Internet taken away from me!

REReader said...

Those are things that would make me less coherent, not more! (I hope your headache has substantially receded.)

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, got to the drugs just in time I think, so the day is saved. Slightly nauseous, but I can cope with that if I don't feel like my head's going to implode.

REReader said...

Yeah. That was me yesterday--not fun, but better than the alternative. I hope you can take it easy today--you said you have off today, right?

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, off. And there's still enough snow for Sherlock to be completely giddy now we've picked him up.

REReader said...

Yay! :)

Jaws said...

My question was more about love and relationships anyway, hopefully not very shocking to smaller people! (yes that includes John)

It's been lovely and clear today in London, hope Sherlock is enjoying the last hour or so of daylight.

Sherlock said...

John and Lestrade were talking about the wedding and said maybe they would have purple things like flowers and I want purple and I want a shirt that matches the flowers and I think it's a good idea and Lestrade said I could ask what you all thought because you all comment on everything but he says it would be subtle not loads but I think it should be loads and the snow is almost gone now except bits you can't get to but I hope it snows again soon.

REReader said...

Purple is my favorite color, so I'm highly in favor! A purple shirt would be nice for you, Sherlock, or maybe a purple tie. (It depends on the shade of purple. If it's very bright, less makes a stronger statement.)

Jaws said...

Purple is my favourite colour too, and I think it can be very dignified and sophisticated. My cousin had his barmitzvah in purple a few weeks ago and all the women in the family wore purple dresses and the men wore purple shirts and ties, it was a LOT of fun.

Do you have any wedding ideas, Sherlock? I know you want to hold a ring, but anything else?

Kestrel337 said...

Purple is an excellent wedding color. It can be so many things; elegant or festive or dramatic. And there are lots of wonderful flowers!

A nice shirt or tie in purple would be very handsome, I think.

What does Mycroft think?

Sherlock said...

he said the name of the flower but I can't remember what it was. It started with an L.

I want to throw flower petals and rice too and tie cans on the back of their bikes and have a cannon and a band and a hot air balloon and a really really really big cake with chocolate.

REReader said...

Lavender, maybe? (They smell nice as well as looking nice.)

I'd definitely want a really, really big cake with chocolate, if I were getting married!

REReader said...

Or maybe lilac--those are pretty, too. :) (Purple is a very good color for flowers.)

Anon Without A Name said...

It's almost as if Lestrade thinks we're all opinionated chatterboxes, Sherlock :-)

I think purple is a lovely colour to have as an accent colour at a wedding. I think too much of it would look... too much, though. So maybe ties, rather than shirts? Purple socks too might be fun... even purple pants :-p

Greg Lestrade said...

Lithianthus, Sherlock.

Nameless - you lot? Never.

I was only thinking buttonholes...and the lining of my suit ;) and ...well, the rest depends on the colour of our suits and things.

Purple boxers are now also on my list!

REReader said...

*looks up lithianthus*

Gosh, that's a gorgeous color!

Small Hobbit said...

I'm not a fan of purple, but I'm sure you'd look smart in a purple shirt Sherlock.

Does this mean you'll be having matching purple boxers L?

Greg Lestrade said...

well, I'd have to ask John, obviously.

Or did you mean will Sherlock and I have matching boxers??

Anon Without A Name said...

Perhaps all four of you?

(Don't hate me, Mycroft)

Mycroft said...

I can assure you that no one will ever know if I joined in with that 'theme' or not.

Lestrade and Sherlock are the ones who occasionally manage to show their underwear off to unsuspecting members of society.

John H. D. Watson said...

Thank you for leaving me out of that statement, Mycroft.

Mycroft said...

I don't believe you've ever managed to 'flash' your underwear when I've been around, John - if, indeed, you ever have at all.

Whereas only a few weeks ago Lestrade was - well, to be honest, I'm not sure what he was attempting to do - but he had his jeans fastened somewhere around his thighs and was dancing around the sitting room with Sherlock. I believe he was pretending to be a teenager.

Thank you for coming to see me yesterday. I hope you've had a more peaceful day today.

REReader said...

Being a teenager has its upside, Mycroft--granted, it is generally seen only in retrospect, but it is there. :) How is school going?

Mycroft said...

I fail to see how anything Lestrade was doing showed an 'upside'.

It did show a lot of his underwear though.

School is fine, thank you.

Greg Lestrade said...

They weren't around my thighs! Just...a bit baggy, without a belt.

If only I'd had a cap to wear sideways and known any gang signs...

REReader said...

Oh, boy, I wish I could have seen that--it sounds like fun!

(Sometimes being silly just is, Mycroft. You don't have to find it fun yourself, of course. Tastes differ.)

John H. D. Watson said...

Mycroft - more peaceful, yes, though slightly less entertaining. We were very glad to see you, too. Is there anything in particular you want to do when you come home for the weekend?

Greg Lestrade said...

Sorry, Mycroft - promise never to do it in public! And I saw you laughing with John, anyway.

Anon Without A Name said...

Don't worry Mycroft, I wasn't expecting anyone to be flashing their pants at a wedding.

Although, thinking about it, the last wedding I went to the groom did flash his pants at me. He was inordinately proud of his wedding pants; they were "Life of Brian" themed, with the name "Biggus Dickus" emblazoned on the front, and "Incontinentia Buttocks" written on the back...

John H. D. Watson said...

Heh. Those do sound pretty good.
