Horay!

So paperwork then straight back on the bike to John for a party?

Congratulations! Wonderful news. Was it who you thought it was?

John H. D. Watson said...

I'm so glad. Did it go well? Everyone all right?

Greg Lestrade said...

Still in a field. Don't think anyone can find us. Was a bit of a Chase. Quite muddy, soaked, knackered. Cam's on phone trying to describe where we are.

Don't think it did my knee much good. Bit scratched up frm wire, hedges etc. All fine though

John H. D. Watson said...

You phone does a GPS thing I think. That might help?

It was the person you thought it was, I take it?

Greg Lestrade said...

Does it? I think Cam is talking them in. We might have a bit of a walk though, to find a road. Yeah, the bloke I thougth it was. Pretty tragic case all round.

Wearing wet jeans is bloody horrible.

John H. D. Watson said...

Being muddy and wet in most things is pretty horrible, but yeah, jeans are especially bad.

...So, I'm trying to resist asking because I know you've still got a lot to deal with, but I can't. When are you coming home?

Greg Lestrade said...

Honestly, I can't see it being today. Still got interview to do, then paperwork. Probably very late tonight or early tomorrow

John H. D. Watson said...

Tomorrow's good enough, I just wanted to know. :)

So what happened? How did you end up chasing him dramatically across the fields? Or are you allowed to say yet?

Greg Lestrade said...

Not sure you want to know. It involved him, us and a shotgun (the murder weapon)

John H. D. Watson said...

God. I'm very glad you're all right.

Remember to ice your knee when you get out of the field. And change into something dry before you get to the paperwork. And...yeah, I'm just fussing uselessly because I can't do what I really want to do until tomorrow.

Greg Lestrade said...

I will do, Doc. It wasn't that dramatic. He saw us coming, gave the car both barrels, from too far away to do much. So we ran for him before he could reload. He ditches the gun and we chased him. Via a few barbed wire fences and irrigation ditches.

Just walking to the road now. Can hear the sirens, can't be far now.

Lindsay said...

YES! Well done!

I was about to say "at least it wasn't as dramatic as last time" but...yeah.

At least the damage wasn't as bad this time?

John H. D. Watson said...

That's dramatic enough. Any story in which people point weapons at you is more than dramatic enough for me.

And thanks for letting me fuss. It actually does make me feel better.

Greg Lestrade said...

I think he took out one car window and wrecked the paintwork.

Mainly undramatic not very fast foot chase through difficult terrain. Glad my phone was in my shirt pocket not my jeans - my wallet and warrant card are sopping. Got a few decent scratches on my arms and one on my side.

In van now.

Thanks for caring enough to fuss.

Yay! \o/

Sounds perfectly awful.

We're going to Tesco shortly now the fridge is working again. Is there anything you want for tomorrow?

Reading a comment on John's blog that you were in a muddy ditch somewhere had me a bit worried about your health and safety. Reading that you had a loaded shotgun fired at you (and Cameron)...I'm just going to add my voice to the chorus of people who are really really glad that you're all right and will be going home soon(ish) to John and the boys.

Re: drying out belongings: be careful if you put them on a radiator to dry; paper items have been known to set themselves on fire. =)

You haven't killed the repair man and shoved his body in it then? What was the problem. (and yes, Sherlock, I know exactly how John shouts without shouting)

Nothing special I want, no.

Milly, the pub landlady, has provided me with a massive ice pack for my knee. Back at the nick now.

Greg Lestrade said...

Anon - given how warm it is in the UK , can't imagine I'd find a radiator on anywhere. Everything currently laid out on paper towels

Lawless said...

Congratulations on catching him. I hope you get someplace where you can change into dry clothes and do something about those scratches soon.

Thanks for caring enough to fuss.

Aw, guys, you are so sweet. I think this talking thing is beginning to work after all!

John H. D. Watson said...

It was the defrost terminator. He had the part in his bag, I saw it. I don't even know why he wanted to put it off till Monday, it only took him about half an hour once he got started. I suppose so he could charge us for two visits. And I wasn't shouting at him, I was using a perfectly reasonable tone of voice.

Excellent, thank you Milly. Cameron's all right as well, apart from scratches and so on?

... How do I miss these new posts?! Goodness gracious. Ignore everything else and pretend I was squeeing over here. However, I will repeat:

Greg Lestrade: BAMF and Damn Good At His Job.

I'm glad you'll get this wrapped up and be able to go home tomorrow and glomp John and your boys. You should have comfort food for supper tomorrow night. It'll be awesome.

John: You holding up okay now that you know he's coming home? Are the boys settling down now that they know when Greg is coming home?

Greg Lestrade said...

Mm. Think I know the exact voice. Glad you got it sorted.

Get us a nice bottle of wine?

Cam's fine, yeah, same scratches and scrapes. He's leant me some tracksuit bottoms and a t shirt, so i'm drier, but still fairly filthy.

Excellent news. Glad to hear you weren't injured when someone shot at you! And that you'll be home soon :-)

John H. D. Watson said...

Yes on the wine. Maybe even champagne, something celebratory.

Tink - Yeah, much happier now, thanks. :)

Anonymous said...

Great work, Greg!

You see now why your Super picked you for the job, he just wanted the best :)

Greg Lestrade said...

Tink - glomp?

Thanks everyone.

Danger - veuve clicquot yellow label, if there's a choice...

Anon Without A Name said...

Lestrade: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=glomp "it is the action of one person lovingly (and dramatically) attacking another with a hug", but well worth reading all the definitions to get the full idea :-)

Tink said...

John: You get more happy psychic hugs from this direction! :D

Greg: I'm just so glad you caught him. The family of the deceased can have closure of a sort, professionally you did a great job (and I think you might actually get bonus points from your super for Sherlock's 'complaint'), and now you get to go home soon! All in all a job well done!

John H. D. Watson said...

veuve clicquot yellow label, if there's a choice...

Got it. There was a surprisingly wide choice, so I'm glad I knew what to look for.

We also got you coffee ice cream. Mycroft's idea.

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks Mycroft! Brilliant idea.

And Danger, you're just making me want to come home even more, if possible.

Doing mountains of paperwork now. He confessed, thankfully, on tape.

John H. D. Watson said...

He confessed, thankfully, on tape.

Oh good. Nice of him to make it easier for you.

Greg Lestrade said...

Sorry, just sorting things. I am still here. Bloody starving.

Am half tempted to ride through the night to get to you

John H. D. Watson said...

Much as I'd like to have you here tonight, I think your day's been long enough, what with being shot at and lying in mud and all. Go and eat something, all right?

Greg Lestrade said...

It really wasn't 'shot at' it was 'shot in the vague direction of'. I'll find some food somewhere. Pub might even do something still.

Knee is probably a bit stiff to ride back tonight anyway. Still, thinking of you there surrounded by champagne and ice cream is bloody tempting.

John H. D. Watson said...

It's all right, we'll all still be here tomorrow - me and the ice cream and champagne. ;)

Greg Lestrade said...

Combined? Lovely.

Rider said...

Combined? You had better arrange the babysitter now! That sounds like etc. and ... and definitely 8~8~

Greg Lestrade said...

Ha. Not sure Sherlock will let us out of his sight that soon.

Tink said...

Maybe a big 'Do Not Enter (This Means You Sherlock) There Is Serious Love Stuff Going On' sign for the bedroom door?

(Also, captcha agrees with me, as it said 'knocke')

Radiators are highly unpredictable heat sources, so I'm glad that paper towels are doing the job for you. One of my classmates set a book on fire, trying to dry it out on a heater. Oops.

I hope the paperwork doesn't keep you up too late, and that your dreams tonight about your reunion with John (and the boys) will come true tomorrow.

*hands over ice for your knee*

Glad you're ok and you got your guy!
I'm kinda glad I just spent the last few days reading the previous posts, so I could get all the worrying over with in seconds.
That sounds a little stalker-ish doesn't it... I'm friendly I promise!

Greg Lestrade said...

Cheers. Yeah, just got home and changed out of my wet gear. And don't worry, you don't sound stalkerish.
