Lying there and staring at the ceiling Waiting for a sleepy feeling...

Sleeping.

Something I spend a whole nightshift looking forward to, but when I finally get home...very elusive.

I suppose it's not so bad when no one really cares when you crawl out of bed again, but nowadays, certain people rather do :)

I guess part of the difference is that after a nightshift, there's not much wind-down. I don't get home, spend time cooking, telly, with John and the boys, then finally drag myself off to bed. I tend to get in and try and get my head down, to be up in time to do fun things later in the day.

Today I got in, knackered, because I hadn't got much extra yesterday, and Sherlock launched himself at me (John sort of did, far, far more slowly ;) ). Had a shower, closed the curtains, buried myself in the bed.

Got up again about 45 mins later, went to the loo, got jumped on again because Sherlock hoped I was up. John removed him from my person. Went back to bed.

Rolled about. Piled fnug on, kicked it off, cursed traffic, general noise. John sneaked in to get a different shirt, suitable for allotmenteering. Managed to grab him for a sneaky kiss. Then the flat was silent, but the city decidedly not.

Dragged myself up in time for climbing. John and I did a bit, Sherlock and Mycroft did lots, and were both very good.

I liked it when there was a crack you could wedge your hands into, but not so much the sheer wall with the rubber lugs. And I quite liked the practice bit you could climb along, just getting a feel for it.

Now, of course, I'm not tired...

(and I know some of you wonder, so the victim from last night survived surgery, and is now recovering, which is good.)

Sleep is the most mysterious thing in the world! If anyone ever works out why you always need it when you can't have it and don't want it when you can and finds a solution to the problem they will go down in history as more important than God ;-)

I'm glad you enjoyed climbing, it sounds like it was lots of fun :-)

Sometimes it's harder to sleep when you're very tired too. Which is always annoying.

the victim from last night survived surgery

Very glad to hear it.

Yeah. I dunno. Even when the room's dark and everything, day just feels different to night.

John H. D. Watson said...

True. Not like the city's that quiet at night, but the noises are different.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah. And there's that knowledge that Sherlock is desperate for me to finish sleeping.

It is difficult to ignore. Sometimes I think I can feel his brainwaves urging me to be more entertaining.

I think they're urging the world in general to be more entertaining.

What are we going to do for entertainment tomorrow? Get out and have a walk? Be good to let the dogs out on a really good run before going back to school.

That'd be nice. Somewhere out of the city?

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah. The weather's been so good places shouldn't be too muddy. And everywhere will have blossom and flowers and new life.

John H. D. Watson said...

Mm. Perfect. Ready for bed?

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah. I'll give you an oily shoulder-rub. You look like you've been favouring it since climbing, and it'll probably calm me down for sleep, concentrating on that.

Thanks, love. That would feel really good. Sorry if I fall asleep while you're doing it.

Sort of hope we both do! :)

Hope you have better luck sleeping tonight.

My city was rather noisy last night. Well, not all of it, just the Orthodox church across the street. They had an Easter service that started with an hour of bell ringing at midnight while they circled the building singing. I found it kind of lovely, my guests found it incredibly annoying because they were tired. Then at 3 when the service ended they rang the bells some more and woke us all up again.

It was quiet enough, until the cry for pancakes went up at about 6am :)

Mycroft and I shot off to water the allotment while it was still cool, while John tried to be awake and Sherlock tried to pick where we should go today. Not sure we have a winner yet...

You need a white noise machine/or a fan, and blackout curtains. These make SUCH a difference....
