The eyes take on a certain gaze, And leave behind the springtime days

Sherlock has just told me that the RHS has a plant that's about to flower that's 8 feet tall, eats sheep and has enough nectar for a human to drink. Obviously he wants one.

He's telling me this, and talking at about a million miles an hour, because Mrs Hudson came up a short while ago with a small package the postman delivered while John was out taking Sherlock to school...

Caterpillars! And nettles. We're about to transfer them to their new home, complete with some nettles. But I think they eat lots, so we'll need more...

Don't ask me which ones those are, because they all look the same.

As you've been reading, John and I are finally getting organised :)

Some of it's...some of it's odd, for me, because you know, inevitably there are echoes of the last time. But I'm just so, so happy, that...well, it's John, it's really happening.

We're not planning anything elaborate. Just us, close friends and family, flowers, the place has provision for food and alcohol...still got to decide what we're wearing, how we're arriving, who's doing what, exactly, all that. But, you know, in the grand scheme of it, nothing matters.

If it's as hot as today I'll really want my shorts and flip flops. I didn't leave my office all day, and was basically a puddle of sweat. It's not actually hot, just humid and almost constantly grey and looking like it will rain - although it did clear up to blue haze this afternoon.

I just can't wait to go and give our notice to marry to the authorities now. We're both scrabbling about to find all our paperwork.  :)

Carla said she might want to carry flowers, but she's not sure. I have a feeling she's waiting to see what Mycroft does ;)

Mycroft had his Latin exam today. He said it was okay, in a typical casual teenager way. And he has his last one on Friday - then he's free! Well, free of exams, until next year. Just the long wait for results now... at least, it seems long!

it sounds like you're only days away from being all ready for the big day :-) I hope you can find all the paperwork for when you need it :-)

I think shorts and flip flops would be perfect attire for your wedding, nothing could be more you than that could it?

I'm glad Mycroft is feeling ok about his exams that's always a good sign of success.

Suits are the only other thing that'll take time.

I'm sure we can...passports aren't a problem.

Mycroft is downplaying his achievements massively, as usual :) But he's still finding time for fun too.

I would still marry you in shorts and flip flops, but you might get a stern look or two from Mycroft.

If you go for shorts and flip flops, will that be suggested attire for the guests as well?

It's lovely reading about all the sudden wedding progress, I suspect we're all getting quite excited ;)

Glad to hear the exams are going well, Mycroft. You deserve it.

We had lots of sunshine today, which was of course the day I decided to wear a black t-shirt.

I'm glad Mycroft is finding time for fun I can only imagine what plans he has for his summer holidays ;-)

Passports always at the ready to escape the country, I like it ;-)

If I wear shorts and flip flops, I also want a flower garland around my neck :)

SH - I think we needed to get going on it all, and...well, finding the place made it all so much more real. I've looked at so many places on the internet, and none seemed right. It was getting a bit disappointing!

REReader said...

You only get a flower necklace if the venue is in Hawaii... :)

I agree with SH, this is all quite exciting! (Not forgetting the caterpillars. :))

Greg Lestrade said...

Danger - I found you another recipe website to go with Titli.

http://thugkitchen.com

RR - The venue will definitely not be Hawaii. What sort of flowers are we allowed?

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha! Very nice... Not sure how I feel about tempeh though.

REReader said...

Any kind that doesn't shout "luau". :D (Unless you're going for a theme wedding and a fake Hawaii, in which case go nuts! :))

Greg Lestrade said...

Don't think I've ever had tempeh.

RR - definitely no theme. Or we haven't discovered one yet, anyway. Is simplicity a theme?

pandabob said...

I think flower necklaces would be great, you could all have them as a sign of the connection between the four of you :-)

I'm only kidding Mycroft ;-)

REReader said...

It's the best theme!

Greg Lestrade said...

i would have loved to see Mycroft's face when he read that, AnonyBob!

I don't think there will be any greenery left in London, the way these caterpillars eat.

I always do better with recipes when I see them being made (probably because I always end up changing them, and when I know what they're meant to look like it's easier to say "oh, I can do this instead of that.")

I'm excited about the wedding. Is Sherlock making suggestions for flowers? I bet he'd find really interesting ones. Tiger lilies, maybe? Although you'll have to find something his caterpillars won't eat.

Greg Lestrade said...

Caterpillars have overtaken in the things to be excited about stakes.

He's just frustrated we don't have every detail planned for him yet :)

Danger, I'm up around Marble Arch, just bumped into an old friend. We're going to grab lunch. Call if you're about and want in on it. I daresay he'll furnish you with terrible tales of my youth.

John H. D. Watson said...

I just need to bury Murray's body first, but after that I'd be happy to join you.

pandabob said...

little tip John

Don't tell the police officer where you bury it ;-)

Murray said...

it was one little guest post! I didn't even swear much! not really bad ones

greg help

Greg Lestrade said...

Youre welcome to come for lunch too Murray, if you're not fertiliser already. If you are, I hope he's buried you under something we want to grow lots of...

Jason says he thinks he should get to meet the bloke who's got me so settled we're raising kids together and gardening.

Last time I saw him I was probably covered in glow in the dark paint at a rave or something.

REReader said...

Sounds like a good sort of person to run into--have fun, y'all!

(John, find out if he has photos!!)

Anonymous said...

That's got to be in the days before there were many cameras about hasn't it Lestrade?

Greg Lestrade said...

He won't have photos. We knew each other from pubs and clubs.

John H. D. Watson said...

I may have buried him under the beans. Or we may be cleaning up for lunch. One or both of us will see you shortly. Text me where you want to meet?

Greg Lestrade said...

Happily it was, Anon! :)

At least in places cameras shouldn't be - like clubs. Would be a nightmare now!

rsf said...

Rats. I like glow in the dark paint!

rsf said...

I just found a haircut that I think Sherlock will really like.

REReader said...

That's....uncannily realistic? Wow.

(But it would require pretty constant maintenance cuts, so possibly Sherlock wouldn't want it after all.)

rsf said...

True. He might like growing the tail, though.

Greg Lestrade said...

Danger - Jason says I'm a lucky guy.

He also said if Mrs H really is going to play matchmaker for Murray she can have his number ;). Taken a shine to you, Murray! Even said he could offer you a position on his staff if you wanted ;)

Murray said...

Hey I've had worse offers!

Greg Lestrade said...

I bet you have!

3C ever proposition you?

Murray said...

he claims I propositioned him...I claim extreme drunkenness. No memory of any such thing!

Greg Lestrade said...

What're you saying about my intended there? Don't make me fall out with you ;)

Murray said...

He's all yours! I deny everything, plus he's constantly threatening to bury me in your allotment which wouldn't be a n ideal start to a relationship.

Greg Lestrade said...

Well...it could grow. And flourish?

Anyway, can't argue with your taste, if you did...

REReader said...

(Backtracking a bit to cameras...Disposable cameras were available in the late 80s, and I certainly had friends who went nowhere without one. So you never know! ;))

Murray said...

too high maintenance...

John H. D. Watson said...

Who let you on the internet anyway?

Greg Lestrade said...

RR - I think you're missing the point, from my side of things. We were out partying in gay clubs. If anyone had turned up with a camera they'd probably have been unceremoniously kicked out at best. Blackmail was very real, people could have lost their jobs and livelihoods if someone had sent photos of them to their workplace. I'd certainly have been in deep shit if anyone had decided to send any in to my station.

REReader said...

(No, I don't think I missed that, L. Of course, that wasn't what I was saying--I was responding to Anon's comment. But it hardly matters--as you like.)

Anonymous said...

you do know that requesting photos from a guy who has a history like Lestrade's is rather tactless don't you Rereader?

We're lucky he feels he wants to share any photos of himself from his past with us and the more pressure he feels to share the less he's likely to want to.

REReader said...

No, I don't, Anon.

REReader said...

(That is to say, I do not see that it is in the least tactless to ask John, in a lighthearted fashion, to ask someone specifically identified as a friend if he has pictures, since in that situation, if there were any, they would be photos that L would likely know about already.)

pandabob said...

I'm glad we don't live in times like those any more Greg!

Progress might be slow but at least we've made progress :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, AnonyBob. Amazing to think I might even invite a couple of people to the wedding, possibly - last time around I didn't even tell anyone I got married!

Anonymous - don't worry, no amount of pressure will make me share things I don't want to. The only ones I generally share are the profile ones, and any I think will give people a laugh regarding my fashion choices. Like I said, there won't be any from situations like clubbing, because I was far too paranoid back then - not that it is paranoia when they're reallly out to get you! ;)

pandabob said...

I think there might be a couple of people who were upset if you didn't invite them or at least let them know when it was Greg :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

We haven't really worked out numbers. But not many. You can hire different amounts of the place we want, depending how many there'll be. But then there aren't many people I want to invite, so...don't think it'll be a problem :)

Greg, these silkworms were obviously created to be the answer to your sartorial difficulties. Though you may have to buy extra fabric to make PJs for Sherlock.
