Get Your Hands Out Of My Trousers

Sherlock has changed my blog. He was bored of the old one, and this is a nice picture. I was also sort of missing my grey and blue colourscheme.

It was taken in Ireland, for his birthday weekend. Down into the sea in a little gap in the cliff.

There seems to be nothing but bad news around at the moment. It's all a bit depressing, isn't it?

Although I did have a bright spot to my day today. Was buying a coffee (yeah, there's a surprise, right?) when I was staring out of the shop window, waiting for the nectar of the Gods to be brewed and ready...and noticed a very familiar face outside. Someone I thought was...inside. Just chatting to someone on the other side of the street. So I called up control and enquired, thinking that if he'd gone away then it was a bloody short stretch and I'd want to look into why the judge had been so lenient.

But no, this bloke was wanted for failing to appear at court - he'd been bailed, which I don't think was right anyway, and then hadn't turned up to his court date.

So I had to put my coffee break on hold, get the sergeant I was with to keep tabs on this bloke while I got out the back of the shop and ran around to come at him one way along the street while my sergeant covered the other side.

He ran when he saw me, but we did a very nice neat take-down, leaving only a rather greasy smudge on the shop window we had him against while we were cuffing him. And then the coffee shop tried to give us our coffee for free! (which we obviously can't accept, not in these days!)

Sherlock, meanwhile, seem sort of excited to have Mrs N coming to visit. I had supervise a degu-bath earlier, because "It's your fault Argon is still pink!"...don't quite see how that's the case, but anyway,  don't mind being bath-time-supervisor. They're less trouble than Sherlock is ;)

And now I have two glorious days off! A lovely lie-in tomorrow morning (in my dreams), and a relaxing day with John, before we're off to the zoo. Hopefully not have poo flung at us.

Wow, usually when you say come here and let me arrest you they don't obey quite so well.

pandabob said...

congrats on the arrest :-)

A lovely lie in may not be possible BUT going back to bed for the day would be entirely possible after the school run ;-)

I love the picture and the colours, it kind of looks like your blog again.

John H. D. Watson said...

Wish I'd seen it. :)

And going back to bed after taking Sherlock to school sounds like an excellent idea.

Greg Lestrade said...

Kholly - well, he didn't want to be arrested, but let's say he wasn't the fittest individual, although he did have plenty of weight behind his punches. My sergeant isn't on the small side, either.

AnonyBob - so you agree with Mrs H, apparently - green isn't my colour?

Danger - your wish is my command. I am a public servant, afterall...

pandabob said...

green was nice and fresh for all the bad weather we were having at the time but you strike me as more of a blue/grey person (no idea why though it just feel more comfortable and more you)

Greg Lestrade said...

It is true that the bulk of my wardrobe is blues/greys/whites/blacks. So I can't disagree. And the picture does suit the page well. Sherlock did a very good job.

He showed me some of his karate moves when I said we'd arrested that bloke today :)

Anon Without A Name said...

I like the new background; I liked the previous one, but I prefer blues to greens, and I agree with everyone else that they seem more you. Nice one, Sherlock :-)

Nice job on the unexpected arrest, Lestrade. Good of the coffee shop to want to shout you the coffees. Shame you're not allowed to accept.

Enjoy your days off - enjoy your day on bed (I was going to say "lazy day in bed", but I suspect that might not be the case :-p). And have a lovely, poo-free time at the zoo :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Cheers, Nameless.

Sherlock put up a small fight regarding school, until we bargained with him, and he's allowed to cycle to school in the morning...with us running.

So it might be a lazy day after that, because I'm most definitely not in the best of shape!

REReader said...

This new background is really very attractive--and as I said before, it's really quite a bit easier for me to read over in the mobile version. (Thank you again, Sherlock, it was very thoughtful of you to take that into consideration and I appreciate it a lot!)

Woo hoo for a very neat arrest, L! (Pity about the free coffee. :))

Enjoy your morning, all three of you!

A from NW (who is still around) said...

Greg - Congrats on the arrest, and it's very sweet of the coffee shop to offer you free drinks (even though you can't accept).

I hope you have a wonderful time with John and Sherlock at the zoo (but without any flying objects...)

~A from NW (who is nervous about tomorrow)

Small Hobbit said...

Enjoy the zoo guys. We expect to learn more fascinating facts!

And congrats on the arrest. Shame you couldn't have free coffee, but nice to know that you are appreciated.

Greg Lestrade said...

We've run, we've shopped, we've had breakfast... now we're free until zoo time!

Anon Without A Name said...

Have you given Mrs Hudson some money to take herself to the cinema for a few hours?

Greg Lestrade said...

Very tempting ;) although she assures us she's blind and deaf from noise/goings on in our flat. She needs to be, with Sherlock living here...

We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you?
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo

See the elephant with the long trunk swingin'
A great big ears and a long trunk swingin'
Snuffin' up peanuts with the long trunk swingin'
And we can stay all day

We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you?
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo

See all the monkeys, they're scritch-scritch scratchin'
Jumpin' around and scritch-scritch scratchin'
Hangin' by the long-tail
And we can stay all day

We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you?
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo

There's a big black bear, he's a huff-puff-a-puffin'
His coat's too heavy, he's a huff-puff-a-puffin'
Don't get too near the huff-puff-a-puffin'
Or you won't stay all day

We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you?
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo

Well, the seals in the pool all honk-honk-honkin'
They're catchin' the fish and honk-honk-honkin'
The little tiny seals all honk-honk-honkin'
And we can stay all day.

pandabob said...

have fun :-)

REReader said...

:)

(If only we could hear you singing that!)

Have a great time, guys!

Greg Lestrade said...

I sang it with actions to John

REReader said...

And you didn't record it for posterity, John?!?

REReader said...

How are the elephants?

John H. D. Watson said...

It was an amazing performance.

Greg Lestrade said...

All my performances are amazing, I hope ;)

Sherlock says the elephants aren't as big as he wanted.

Anonymous said...

Sherlock was probably expecting something the size of the mumakil in the Lord of the Rings films. But elephants are still big enough that I don't want one stepping on my foot.

And thank you -- I'll be singing all day, now.

rsf

REReader said...

Telling me how amazing the performance I'm not going to see was doesn't make me feel better about missing it! :D

I'm sorry the elephants weren't up to your expectations, Sherlock--that's always a bit disappointing.

(Elephants ARE awfully strong, though--they were used as sort of living tanks in warfare centuries ago. And they are more easily trained than a lot of other animals in their natural habitats.)

I hope the other animals are making up for it!

Sherlock said...

I still liked them and their trunks were better than I thought so I wasn't disappointed, I just thought they'd be bigger. I like the galapagos tortoises and komodo dragons and lots of other animals.

REReader said...

Oh, good! :) Elephant trunks are pretty amazing, especially how well they can manipulate quite small things with them.

And it sounds like a very successful trip, all in all. I'm glad you're having fun!

Anonymous said...

Komodo dragons are very cool. I love how far they can stick out their tongues. But I don't think I ever want to meet one close up!

Elephant trunks are also very cool. Did I remember to link you to a video of a elephant who paints pictures?

rsf

John H. D. Watson said...

I thought the tortoises were pretty great too. Do they still have them in the Galapagos? I'd like to go there some day.

REReader said...

I believe they do indeed still live there, John--IIRC, they were quite endangered, and a concerted effort was made to expand the population there.

Greg Lestrade said...

I liked the pygmy hippos, and the otters. And these giraffe were nice, too. I'm quite a fan of giraffe now!

REReader said...

Someone told me it's all happening at the zoo. :)

Anonymous said...

I do believe it, I do believe it's true!

:D

rsf

REReader said...

Mmmmhmmmmmmmm! :D

Greg Lestrade said...

Ecuador, huh? Add it to our list of holiday destinations?

Anonymous said...

I think if I ever got to the Galapagos, I'd want to see Easter Island and maybe even sail across the Pacific on a grand tour of island nations.

rsf

Kholly said...

There are indeed still tortoises on the Galapagos. As well as sea turtles to swim with. And it's an easier vacation than you'd expect once you get there. You'd all love it I'm sure.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm reading that gay couples aren't allowed to adopt there. I'd have to be convinced we wouldn't run into any trouble with the boys before I committed to going :)

Sherlock said...

Is Easter Island the one with the big faces?

Greg Lestrade said...

It is.

Are you now happy that two types of biscuit and cup cakes will mean Mrs N won't starve tomorrow? Or is there anything else you want to do?

Sherlock said...

There should be something with cheese.

Anonymous said...

cheese! really Sherlock, do you think Mrs N will find the humour in that?

Greg Lestrade said...

...because she likes cheese? Or just because you think there should always be cheese?

Sherlock said...

Because I like cheese!

Greg Lestrade said...

can I make some cheese scones fresh tomorrow? For when she gets here? And when is she getting here? She coming back with you after school, or later than that?

Sherlock said...

Yes scones!! Later than that. Not until 4:30. Are you staying home all day tomorrow? Can I stay home too and help make scones?

pandabob said...

who doesn't like cheese really Sherlock? it makes everything just that bit more tasty :-)

(anon- joke or serious? I can't tell from what you've written eventhough I think I know what you're talking about)

I'm glad you all enjoyed the zoo and I'm glad you're excited about your teacher's visit Sherlock. she's very lucky to have one of her students put so much thought into what she might like.

REReader said...

It certainly is a nice idea to have both sweet and savory options for a guest.

Greg Lestrade said...

You can't stay home, no. She'd be upset if she thought she was coming to see you and then you didn't go to her class.

We can make scones between you coming home and her arriving, though, so you can help.

Sherlock said...

All right. Can you put any kind of cheese in scones?

Greg Lestrade said...

I've only ever used a strong cheddar, so I don't know. You want something that'll melt, and is quite strong, I guess.

Sherlock said...

When Mycroft gets home we should make them with blue cheese, he likes that.

Greg Lestrade said...

Prosciutto and blue cheese? There's a recipe for that.

Sherlock said...

Yes that! Could we put that on pizza too?

Greg Lestrade said...

Yep.

Although tomorrow, after a huge tea, we'll be having salad or something for dinner.

Sherlock said...

Salad and ice cream?

Small Hobbit said...

On my way to work this morning I had to go and buy cheese for 130 people. I was told this came under the "anything else that may be required of you" part of my job description.

John H. D. Watson said...

You'll have just had biscuits and scones! No ice cream.

John H. D. Watson said...

How much cheese do 130 people need?

REReader said...

(Perhaps they'll be some leftover biscuits. :))

Greg Lestrade said...

Nope, Sherlock, no ice cream after eating all that stuff at tea.

REReader said...

(Ack!-- "there'll" for "there will", not "they'll". Stupid autocorrect.)

Greg Lestrade said...

regardless of grammar, leftover biscuits go in the biscuit tin for the weekend.

REReader said...

Which is day after tomorrow, yay!

Might you be seeing Mycroft on the weekend, or is he too busy with school?

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm working, but I don't know if John and Sherlock might go for a visit - or all of us, if Mycroft's got an evening free.

That said, he is pretty busy, with exams and things to work toward on top of his regular work.

Small Hobbit said...

Doc, I got a block of cheddar, a round of brie and just under half a round of stilton, from a local farm shop. It was a good job I didn't have far to go, my car was starting to smell ;)

Rider said...

rsf, saw a cartoon once. Was people at a funeral and one says to the other:

"It was the 'other duties as directed' that did it"

Greg Lestrade said...

SH - Sherlock will eat whatever they can't manage, we can lend him to you. Cheese disposal service.

Rider said...

I'm not sure it's the career he expected but it might make for a part time job while he's getting his education.

John H. D. Watson said...

I don't think he'd mind eating cheese for a living.

Small Hobbit said...

Sorry to disappoint you, but there was very little cheese left. There was however cake left, but we're keeping that for tea break tomorrow morning.

Greg Lestrade said...

He's more a 'bird in the hand is worth two in the bush' than a 'patience has rewards' kind of boy. But we're trying to change that...

Anonymous said...

sorry was meant as a joke in relation to the cheese throwing incident. badly written.

your teacher will love the effort you've put in Sherlock

Jaws said...

Greg, which cheese scone recipe do you use? The instant it was mentioned I instantly wanted some and I've never made them before, so unsure which recipe is best.
Also, I realise why you and Rider are so enthusiastic about motorbikes. I. loved. it. I love pillion too, it's such a rush! Literally cannot wait to take my CBT and get a second hand moped :) thank you so much for the inspiration :)

Rider said...

Two wheels move the soul!

This is why you will see motorcycle riders nod at each other in traffic or wave. It is because we know the secret of happiness and it is motorcycling.

All those poor fools in their tin cans... Yeah I don't like being wet and cold so a car is rather nice when it's raining but even wet and cold I'm having more fun than they are!

Anonymous said...

Maybe Sherlock can go on a world tour of cheese, someday. Although you have lots of choices even just in Britain. I tried Wensleydale once, just because of Wallace and Gromit, and liked it. Have you had that?

rsf

Small Hobbit said...

Hope you have a good day, and that you all enjoy tea with Mrs N.

Greg Lestrade said...

We sometimes have wensleydale. Mycroft likes it. I'm not the biggest fan.

The news about the missing girl in Wales in heartbreaking. Delivering that sort of news to a family is horrific. That you've arrested a person for the suspected murder of their child, but that there's still no body. I just can't imagine how it feels for the family.

Small Hobbit said...

L - it really is appalling for all concerned and completely shattering for the family.

Greg Lestrade said...

Obviously he hasn't been tried or found guilty yet, but in my book, people who are found guilty, or who admit to murders - of anyone, but especially children - and then don't say where the body/ies is really are the scum of the earth. It's just the last possible way they can hurt the grieving relatives and friends.

pandabob said...

I am very much in agreement Greg, it takes a cetain kind of evil to wish to inflict more pain on peopl eyou have already taken everything from.
