no witty or relavant song lyric tonight

Well I'm back home.

Never been kidnapped before. I don't think I'd like to do it again.

I know they'd be planning it for a long time, probably, but it did seem remarkably easy. No one seemed to find me being marched to a van in a supermarket car park at all odd. Pretty sure I would have, it i'd seen it happen.

anyway, I don't know what to say, really. Thought maybe wriing it out would help but now I don't know what to put.

I was scared. For me, for John and the boys, Mrs Hudson. They said they'd kill John and the boys, and there was nothing I could do about it. And there wouldn't have been. And I had a lot of time to think about that. It was very lonely. Although it was better when they weren't there than when they were.

they made a lotof threats. I don't know if they would have carried them out if John and Mycroft and Sal hadn't tracked me down or not. Probably shouldn't think about it.

I hope they're all caught very soon.

Good luck with catching them Lestrade, though will they let you be partnof the hunt now? Or not since you were involved?

Either way I'm glad you're home safe now with all the hugs you might need.

I'm glad you're home now, and I hope that they're caught very soon. I can't imagine how terrible it must have been, and I'm just thankful you're with your family tonight.

John H. D. Watson said...

I don't think I'd like to do it again.

I'd also prefer you to avoid it in future, if at all possible. Come back to bed, love?

Anonymous said...

I'm really glad you're back safe. I can't even imagine. You said in your comments on John's blog that it was some guy you had put away- was it just revenge then, he decided everything wrong with his life was your fault and decided to go after you? Kidnapping you seems like kind of a weird method of revenge. I mean, no one who goes around stalking and kidnapping people is entirely stable anyway, but that seems like an extra helping of crazy.

I'm glad that whatever his overall plan was didn't work out. I hope they catch all the bastards.

Anonymous said...

So glad you are home safe, glad for you and glad for everyone who loves you. Can't imagine how scary and lonely it must have been, especially when they were telling you all about John and the boys panicking on the blog... And I'll add to the chorus of hoping that they catch them soon...

Anonymous said...

The thing to remember is that in spite of what they said, you did do something about the threats they were making. You tricked one of them, clobbered him, and got your hands on a laptop with access to the internet. As much as your rescuers, you made getting home safe possible. And if that laptop hadn't been there, I have no doubt you would have found another way to signal or escape. You were never helpless because you were never hopeless.

Hang onto John, hang onto Spider, and sleep well. You've earned it.

I'm so glad you're home but I really can't imagine how you work this all out in your head and make it possible to move on properly from, I hope everyone is caught and dealt with quickly and then you can properly focus on you.

I hope you have a good day whatever the four of you decide is the best thing for you all to do and that the attempt to cause an overdose of hugs continues throughout the day :-)

Yeah, I don't think this is the right adrenaline sport to do... I didn't like it at all and I'm just a virtual reader of your lives (not that active lately, but I really accidentally clicked on John's blog yesterday and got a shock of my life), so I'm not even going to speculate how it must have felt for you and yours.

I would ask if there are some contingency plans to avoid these situations for the future, but splashing them over the inernet would kind of defeat the purpose. So I will rely on you, John the NSY and amazing Sally, Mrs H and Anthea and your young geniuses to cook up something really devious...

Honestly, my husband has epilepsy and once in few years he gets this attack when he doesn't remember anything and simply wanders about. We have his cell phone tracked - but that would not help. I would go as far as a subdermal chip personally, but I understand that's too invasive for most people...

Okay, enough speculation. I am glad you are safely back.

Greg Lestrade said...

Lindentreeisle - Yeah, I missed out quite an important part of that story. I arrested him, and I suppose he thinks of me as being responsible for that. When he was put in prison his wife left him, with their two kids. A few years later they were killed, along with her new husband, in a car accident. I think he wanted me to suffer some of what he had. Felt like it was all my fault. And...well, I'm not entirely unsympathetic. I mean, I do understand how that would send you on an insane hunt for revenge, I guess.

Mycroft, with gentle persuasion from John and Anthea, and not-at-all-gentle persuasion from Sherlock, is staying at home today, with us.

RSF - I was lucky he had the laptop and wanted to gloat over the distress he was causing, because I really don't know how I'd have got out of there otherwise.

Greg, like everyone else, I'm glad you're home, safe and unharmed. While the what its are going to run through your head for a while, I think you should consider that your household consists of a security team, a Met detective, and a former soldier for a reason. (Whether or not anyone is armed, I will not speculate on since you know better than us.)

You are loved by amazing people; work with smart, dedicated, and loyal people; and are cheered on by a couple hundred virtual friends/readers/mother hens. I know these facts won't make your very rational fears go away, but I hope they offer something to hold onto as you work through this. No matter what happens, I know your family will support you and you will support them.

Glad you and your family are reunited.

(And the bike! Why does no one remember the bike? Abandoned and lonely and not locked up.... I'm sure it's missing you Lestrade!)

I guess it's family shopping until this bastard's caught or can you borrow one of the security detail?

Or maybe just stay at home for a few days and order in....

Greg Lestrade said...

The bike is currently languishing in the evidence yard. Although I am allowed to collect it, they've cleared it. Maybe I'll go with John tomorrow if the boys are back at school. We'll see.

The day is being indoors, partly security, partly because it's lashing it down with rain.

Sherlock has barely let go of me. He's currently on my back.

pandabob said...

I'm glad you're having a nice day together god knows you deserve it :-)

Have you made more biscuits Sherlock?

I'm glad your bike is free for you to pick up, it doesn't mean you have to but nice to know you can :-)

Enjoy your afternoon

A Sherlock on your back, hey? Maybe you can persuade him down long enough to try a duet for violin and electric guitar.

Mycroft, I hope you enjoy the unexpected holiday. Maybe you can contemplate redecorating your room.

KHolly - no, not part of it. Unless they decide they need bait for a trap, maybe. (I don't think they will do this really.)

RSF - I'm not using much sleep right now. It's yours if you can catch it. Even though John let me have the light on last night I can't say it was very restful. Hopefully that'll come when I know he's behind bars.

I got a few hours. Three and a half anyway. Feel like tipping over again, but I'm trying to resist temptation until tonight or I'll be all screwed up for work tomorrow.

I did wonder if you'd want a nightlight. Maybe I should be showing the glow in the dark gallery to you instead of Mycroft. Although I don't think John wants glow-in-the-dark hair.

What's the toy for adults? Toys are usually for children but I can't even see what it is but I'm glad there's toys for grown ups too because most toys for children are stupid talking horses or aliens or stuff I like the skulls the best.

Adults have things like motorcyles to play with.

But I saw some ideas for kids toys too. On one of the pages there's some glow in the dark playdough.

Wow, there are a lot of glow in the dark things you'd never expect, huh? I mean, a glow in the dark raincoat? Who'd have expected that!

Yep. Raincoats. WEIRD.

(Hope you get some naptime today, L. Though I expect it will be under a pile of boys. So glad you're home.)

Sherlock said...

I clicked on the link and it's glass and it looks nice but I don't get what it does because it looks like just a lump of glass what does it do? Would it cheer Lestrade up? He's asleep on the sofa and John's drinking tea with Anthea.

I'm glad he's home too.

Anonymous said...

It might cheer him up. You could ask John. But I think the glow marble is prettier.

rsf

Mazarin said...

Well, I think it glows in the dark. That's what it does. Adults like all sorts of boring things, Sherlock, who knows. But I bet Lestrade would like that glow in the dark motorcycle, just to look at. Or maybe you and John and Mycroft could find a good movie or something you all could watch together, or a fun game to play.

Anonymous said...

It looks like a pestle to me. Or maybe a mano for a metate.

Mazarin said...

A squirrel? Where's a squirrel?

Sherlock said...

I asked Mycroft, he said Lestrade would know so I'm going to ask when he's awake. His leather jacket smells nasty but I don't know how you clean them. I bet Mrs Hudson would though I'm going to ask her because that will make him happy not having a smelly jacket.

CzechReader said...

There!

(That said, the oak in our street has an unusual ammount of acorns this year. There are lots of squirrels around...)

CzechReader said...

Sherlock - I bet there are some ways to do so at home, but I would honestly give it to professional cleaners to handle...

But if you feel adventurous enough, I think this sounds fine: How to clean a leather coat

Kholly said...

I think you're right Sherlock. Not having a smelly jacket will make L happy. Smells are very strong triggers of memory so it would be good if he doesn't have to be reminded of that horrible room. But CR is probably also right. A professional cleaner might be best. You could be in charge of taking it to the cleaner maybe if someone goes with you. Either way it's very thoughtful of you.

Sherlock said...

Mrs Hudson says it should go for a proper clean too. And Lestrade just woke up because his phone rang and said a bad word that I can't even say just to tell you and it was Sally and then she said they caught Ttid and Lestrade and John are hugging now and I think crying but I think in the good way like Lestrade said not a bad way because they'd be happy not sad and Anthea is even smiling a bit.

Sherlock - Sometimes, the best celebrations take place at home, with the people you love, and with the knowledge that everyone is safe and healthy.

Sally - So I'm guessing it wouldn't be quite legal for us to send your team a year's worth of coffee beans, would it? I hope Ttid does (doesn't?) give you too much trouble and you can take off a few days of hard-earned rest.

Greg, John - Celebrate away, gentlemen, for you deserve it.

Mycroft - I hope you're not stressing out about everything.

Sadly I can't claim as much credit as you lot are giving me. He was caught trying to leave the country. We're still trying to round up the rest, but I don't think they had the same motivation as he did.

Anon Without A Name said...

That's wonderful news.

Sally - take the credit where you can, you know police officers never get the thanks they should :-) Speaking of, thanks to all of your colleagues as well who were working on this, excellent job all round.

Sherlock said...

Pandabob yes we do about bullying at school and sometimes that's when someone makes you not want to do something you enjoy because you're scared or something and that's sort of what Ttid did except now he's caught so maybe Lestrade will want ice cream again soon if we go with him and make it okay at the moment he's sad like when Bryan was being horrible but he looked really happy when I said about the cleaners making his jacket not smell.

pandabob said...

you are such a clever and thoughtful young man Sherlock :-)

I can understand Lestrade wanting to stay inside where he knows everyone if safe and he can just relax now that Ttid has been caught but inviting him out for ice cream on Wednesday will give him a really lovely reason to leave the house and show the world (and himself) that he is getting on with getting on even though he still needs those who love him and care about him at his side :-)

I have been so impressed by how grown up you have been in all this Sherlock I hope you are proud of yourself :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

HM - Feel free to have a blog party. I'll pick up the tab :)

Sherlock - thank you for thinking about my jacket. We'll take it to a special place that mend and care for biking leathers, they'll know what to do with it.

Mycroft - thank you for being so calm, so brave, so helpful and for staying with us today. It's been lovely having you here.

RSF - Thanks for giving me something else to think about. Sherlock looked first alarmed and then slightly disgusted by my explanation of the adult toys. And then said it was stupid, because how could you see it was glowing if it was inside you... he thinks adults are silly, and do very odd things. Which is probably just what he should be thinking, at his age.

Sal - Thanks for calling me, thanks for your tireless work.

John - thank you for just being amazing, during all of this. For being so calm for the boys, for working so hard to find me, and for being so patient with me now.

And thanks to all of you for talking to Sherlock today, keeping him entertained.

I'm trying to work things through. In my head, with John, on here. I guess...opening up on here, it gave him a lot of information, about my weaknesses, and he didn't hesitate to exploit that. So...yeah, I've got to work out what I want to do about that, I suppose.

Mycroft said...

Everyone is vulnerable when it comes to the people they care about. He may have learned specifics on here, but I think the bare fact of our existence would've been enough for someone like him.

Anonymous said...

Mycroft has it entirely right. You can't call it a weakness that you love people and that they love you. All he got from the blogs was who and occasionally where and he could have got that by following you just as easily and he undoubtedly did get some of that from following you.

Lancs. Anon

Greg Lestrade said...

Mycroft - yes, those threats, well, he was - is - unhinged, I mean, he'd just built up his anger into something so masive over the years that I don't think even he could control himself.

Lancs. - I didn't really mean that. I mean, I don't consider it a weakness to love people. Those threat, against John and the boys, were the worst, in some ways, because I couldn't know if what he was saying was true. But I did trust that John and Anthea knew how to protect themselves and the boys.

He said other things, about what they'd do with me, and those...well, he certainly knew the buttons to press.

pandabob said...

I'm not going to tell you what you should do either way about this place Greg because you need to make your decisions for yourself but Mycroft has a very good point.

Reading your blog for the last few months (probably more than a few now, time flies!!) I think there are times you have found it very useful and times when you really haven't but you need to decide for yourself what balance you are happy with.

I think you are amazing the way you handle the world and all it throws at you and I am confident that you will make a good decision for you about what you share here and what you don't.

pandabob said...

He didn't really? I feel sick :-(

Anonymous said...

I think Lancs Anon and Mycroft are both right. However much ttid might have learned by what you've said here, the core of what he did was threaten the people who you love. And if it hadn't been John and Sherlock and Mycroft, it would have been Nicky and the rest of your family, or even the people on your team. Anyone to make you feel responsible for what was happening, when the truth is that it was all Ttid's fault.

As for the distraction... er... hm. Well, maybe I shouldn't post on less than four hours sleep. I was thinking about the glow in the dark hair, honest! But if I gave you both something else to think about, I'm happy. (Still very sleepy, really, but I've managed not to fall over yet.)

Time for us to go soon, too, as long as John doesn't mind having the light on again.

Sherlock said...

We could all make a blanket fort and sleep in the sitting room and it would be THE BEST!

Greg Lestrade said...

Not on a school night, kiddo, although it's a very nice idea. But you need a proper sleep in your bed.

You've had worse ideas, Sherlock, but while it might help with getting to sleep it probably wouldn't be too good for a really restful night and I think everyone needs that.

pandabob said...

Are you off back to school in the morning Mycroft? I hope you haven't missed much today and that having the day at home all together will help you not worry too much when you get back to school :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

There is much resistance to going to sleep from the smallest member of the household.

do you think its the idea of having to go back to school tomorrow Lestrade or the fact that when he comes home Mycroft won't be there? If Mycroft's going back tomorrow could Sherlock not have another day so he can physically take Mycroft back and see where he is so its concrete in his mind on the understanding he goes back to school himself on the Wednesday or tomorrow afternoon?

Maybe it's alright at the moment to not be alright? Does that make any sense? I don't profess to be any kind of expert or to have had an experience anywhere near as terrible as yours so I am guessing a little bit.
I had a small nasty experience a while ago and I said I was fine for the next few days and tried to get on, but I couldn't shake it. A paramedic gave me a nice sensible talk, and I found that if I could say "you know what, I'm not okay, not right now" then I didn't feel like I was failing at being okay. My problem was getting to sleep, the thoughts kept whizzing round in my head when I closed my eyes, even though I could stop them in the day. I found sleeping in the light really helped or reading old familiar books, they felt friendly, but there's no easy answer.
Saying that, it gets better, slowly, and you're a strong person with strong support.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, i think I'm okay admitting that I'm not okay.
