The girl is now safe.

I'm okay.

Her father is dead.

I'm hoping I'll be back to the UK on Saturday.

That's...about it, really.

You're a good man, Greg.

The whole situation sounds horrifyingly bad, and I know you think you could or should have done more, but please remember that you offered Hannah the only comfort she could handle on one of the worst days of her life. You're a very good man indeed.

As tough as it's been for you and John and Sherlock, for hannah's sake I'm glad she had you on her side. If I were in dire straigts I'd want you fighting for me.

You're a very good man.

I'm glad you're ok, and the girl is ok.

I hope the girl didn't have to see her dad die. She's going to need enough therapy already. :(

Small Hobbit said...

You should feel proud of yourself that she trusts you. As Brownyn said you're a good man.

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks, all of you.

She got a bit of sleep overnight.

Lindsay - she saw everything, I'm afraid. She'll need a lot of help to come to terms with everything she's seen over the last couple of weeks.

Once the people from the UK arrive I'll have to start trying to get her to let go of me a bit, poor kid. Don't want to just leave her when I get home. I don't know. It's tough. She's got a lot of questions I don't have answers to.

Hello, just commenting to give some moral support to both of you! Great job Lestrade. I hope there's nothing else happened that can prevent you going home! =]

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks. And no, nothing will prevent me getting home now! I can't wait.

Lindsay said...

Fuck. That poor kid.

Ditto to what everyone else has said. I'm so glad that the worst of it is over, and you'll be back home tomorrow.

How's Hannah doing today?

Greg Lestrade said...

A little better, glad to say.

Not even Italian paperwork is enough to put her off sitting with me. But one of the women who works in the office here, Fiorella, brought her in a teddy bear today. It's grey and fluffy. I won't ask you to guess what It's been called. And she's talking to Fiorella via me as translator. Although Fio does speak a little bit of English. It's good she's got a little bit of confidence back already. And good she's sort of talking to someone else. It'll be really hard to leave her tomorrow.

I'm glad she's bounced back a little, though I'm sure she has a hard time still ahead of her. Kids really are amazingly resilient.

Greg Lestrade said...

She definitely has a lot to get through. Lot to deal with. And has been asking for her granny. It seems they were fairly close, which is good. Wouldn't feel right giving her back to someone she didn't know too well.

There's still a lot of tears, and she's still very quiet. I am now allowed out of her sight, as long as the teddy stays with her. But only very briefly. Like toilet breaks.

Reading the comment I just can't shake the image of Greg being a giant teddy bear out of my mind... d'awwww...

Greg Lestrade said...

Hmm. Feel free to shake it anytime.

Danger, Fio, Hannah and I are going for pizza (crazy early, but Fio's cousin owns a restaurant). But I'll try to call later. Or I'll be on here. Hopefully if we can get her fed she might get some sleep.

John H. D. Watson said...

All right. Good luck with that.

John H. D. Watson said...

Oh P.S., it's shortbread.

Greg Lestrade said...

Shortbread? Great. With chocolate (just because I know how Sherlock feels on the subject...chocolate makes everything better). Hannah has met Spider now. She was...unsure. but stroked her. And admired her many eyes.

Sherlock said...

Of course with chocolate.

Is she my age?

Greg Lestrade said...

She's 8. And she agrees Shortbread should have chocolate chunks. And that ice cream is a good dessert.

She was very impressed that you had made Spider.

Sherlock said...

It's good with chocolate ice cream too but John says we can't get any because we had it last night. That's a silly reason.

Greg - *hugs* You're a good man, and a good cop. I'm glad to hear that Spider is providing comfort to others, and that Hannah has a support network waiting for her when she gets back to the UK.

Sherlock - Too much of a good thing isn't good because sometimes it can make you sick. Other times, it doesn't make sense, like having ice cream in the winter.

Everything in moderation, Genietto.

I'm not a little genius, I'm a big genius!

Small Hobbit said...

I think we all need a Greg the Ted. ;)

Greg Lestrade said...

You're little enough, kiddo.

And it's called Gregory. Or Gregory, depending who you ask.

Neither if you ask me ;)

Greg Lestrade said...

Danger - should get into Heathrow (not Gatwick) at about 1715 tomorrow. add at least 30 mins to get through baggage reclaim etc.

I may be a zombie by then.

John H. D. Watson said...

Excellent, can't wait.

Greg Lestrade said...

Me neither. Hope Sherlock let's you get some sleep tonight, amongst baking and excitement at us all seeing each other again.

Hannah's asleep in Fio's spare room. I'm going to try and sleep on the sofa.

And if he'll allow us, could we plan a couple of days away somewhere, the two of us (and the bike)?

John H. D. Watson said...

That would be nice. Any idea where you want to go?

Greg Lestrade said...

Isolation chamber? Remote island? Castle in the middle of nowhere?

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha. That windmill by the beach maybe?

Greg Lestrade said...

Shhhh, you can't tell everyone if it's going to be our secret hideout!

Plus if Sherlock thought we were going there he'd stow away in our luggage.

I want to be home so much now I could...I dunno, burst. Or cry. Or howl at the moon or something.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha. We need a secret hideout after this.

Tomorrow. Just one more day.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah. And then I'll be so happy to see you I'll probably fall asleep immediately...

Hannah's already been out to find me once.

I haven't shaved for three days. Surprised she doesn't think I'm a tramp, sleeping on a sofa, half dressed, unshaken and bloodshot eyes that make me look like I'm on drugs.

John H. D. Watson said...

Unshaken? I'm having trouble decoding that autocorrect.

Greg Lestrade said...

Unshaven.

I can definitely say I'm shaken.

John H. D. Watson said...

Not stirred?

Greg Lestrade said...

There's very little stirring around me now. What is it...just gone midnight...nope, all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse...just a copper sitting here, wide awake, listening out for a kid who'd be forgiven for never sleeping soundly again.

Although I should really get my head down and try, right?

John H. D. Watson said...

You could try at least, yeah. If she needs you I'm sure she'll wake you up.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, I told her to.

Night you. See you tomorrow.

It'll be a weird day. But brilliant because I'll be back with you. Get used to leaving space for me in bed again.. and not mumbling Roger's name in your sleep. Hah.

John H. D. Watson said...

I only curse his name in my sleep these days.

Goodnight, love. Sleep well.
