Forts, fortissimo, photos

Realised I haven't posted any pictures of the fort. (I typed 'my fort' then. Has my brain been buying things online whilst I've been working? Danger, do we own a Fort?) So instead of boring you all about the usual old crap, have some photos.

That's the kitchen. It was brilliant. Enough room for everyone to help, and a massive oven, large enough to bake a huge rainbow cake. And it was nice to all sit around the big table and eat (or, apparently, not eat, according to Anthea. Although I'm sure I saw food pass her lips...)

That's the window into 'our' room. Looking out to the ocean. That's why it was something of a surprise to be happily snug in bed on a lazy morning, when suddenly Sherlock splatted against the window, yelling, like some sort of overgrown barnacle. As I said, lucky we weren't...doing anything. And that Danger had his pyjamas on to get up and go and find the little rock climber. (he was perfectly safe, and Mycroft was with him. Mycroft just has more decorum...) and we were forced to get up.

Still, I booked us a few days away today. Away from London, away from all responsibilities, and away from surprise visits by inquisitive (even more so after today) 6 yr olds.

(Your responses to the plane-flying poll are quite amusing. At one point more of you were refusing to get on the plane than were allowing Sherlock to fly...but you're mainly blaming everything on John.)

Ooo, I love kitchens. Glad to hear you two are getting away on your own as well. Enjoy!

I do too - well, nice ones! Ours here is pretty small. But fine just for us. A bit small when Mycroft's here, because that means there are two huge dogs begging around your feet for scraps.

And hello. Don't think I've seen your name here before? Welcome.

Getting away by bike? Are Greg the Florist and his John making the same trip in their parallel universe?

Greg Lestrade said...

Definitely by bike. We're going to Bath. Well, staying just outside. (Haven't actually told John this yet. He'll find out when Sherlock stops explaining whatever it is he's explaining to him and he reads this. The explanation involves diagrams...it could be tomorrow before I get him back.)

I thought I'd have time to write more Greg the Florist at the Fort. Didn't count on water fights that lasted all day.

Bath! Have a Sally Lunn with lemon curd for me, please. And enjoy having Danger tucked up behind you on the bike for me too!

Got to say I'm not wild about Sally Lunns' Lunns? Wherever the bloody apostrophe should or shouldn't be.

I will thoroughly enjoy ... there's no way i can say what I was going to without it sounding sexual. I will enjoy riding down there with John - which isn't really what I wanted to say, but you get the gist.

I wondered why John was being so quiet both here and during the B&B discussion.

Enjoy Bath! Especially alone...

who are you and what have you done with Lestrade?

I think we mentally bought a fort the moment we walked into that place.

Rider - he'd being more careful since the Brazil nut incident.

I would let Sherlock fly the plane *then* I would blame it on John. Sorry, John.

Desert Wanderer, I thought you meant bed and breakfast. I had to jump over to the other entry just to check.

I hope your time away goes smoothly -- and slower than it should.

(I can't even remember what I voted for in the poll. Pretty sure I at least said he should be allowed to pilot, though.)

I found religion quickly. Probably because I also let Sherlock pilot.
That's me in the corner,

I restrained Sherlock, in the pilot's chair. You want to make sure he doesn't lose his focus before he's done.

Bronwyn, is that an REM joke? Am I the only one slightly gutted that they broke up?

Greg Lestrade said...

Azure - I'm slightly sad about it, yeah. But understand the wish to move on.

Danger - no idea what you and Sherlock were debating last night, but he didn't get up this morning. Was fast asleep when I checked on him. And you're fast asleep now, cuddling Spider in some sort of explosion of legs.

Flat is very peaceful...

DW: I think I live not too far from where you're headed to. Hope you have a safe trip and everyone (and everything!) gets there okay! (Also, if you were World Wide Wanderer, we'd just shorten you down to WWW which makes me giggle...)

John: That's what you get for making other people do your dirty work :D Though probably for the best so he can learn about it now and not care next week.

Greg: I've been having fun with going on vacations lately, even mini ones, and I have to say I'm much more relaxed than I was a month ago. Have fun this weekend!

Greg Lestrade said...

Tink - you're right about Sherlock's rapidly changing interests. Obsessive one week, forgotten the next...

Glad you're more relaxed. We're not going away this weekend - or any weekend. Wouldn't be fair on anyone to abandon Sherlock for a weekend. Much better if he's at school. Mrs Hudson would never keep up with him all day long! Plus I can't get time off work that quickly!

That was an REM joke! I was a bit put out when they broke up. I will freely admit that "Losing My Religion" was the song that caught my attention because I'd never heard anyone use that particular southern slang outside my own family.

Did John resort to drugging Sherlock to win the argument?

Bronwyn

They weren't arguing, Bronwyn. Just discussing something, very seriously.

Think the fact Sherlock was cuddling an encyclopaedia probably explains his tiredness. Imagine he stayed up reading it even after Danger finally got him to go to bed.

As one who fell asleep on the couch last Saturday with a copy of "Criminal Poisonings: Clincial and Forensic Perspectives" on my lap, I feel Sherlock' pain. It's really hard to put a good book down.

Lestrade, this came on the radio today. I blame you that I even recognize the tune.

I'm going to admit to being most confused as to why that's my fault? But then I'm often confused why things are my fault around here, and it seems they just are...

Desert Wanderer said...

It's the same tune as the Wurzels' "I Am a Cider Drinker," which you so graciously introduced us to and which is now stuck in my head. It is a cheerful, summer-type song, though, so I guess it's alright. :)

Ah! i see.

I was so shocked to be seeing Jonathan King that I didn't take much notice of the music.

Blackbird's the song that really sticks in my head.
