The last day...

So today is the last day of the summer holidays. Have no idea where the weeks have gone. Didn't the summer holidays seem to last forever when we were young? Now it feels like they're over as soon as they start.

Sherlock's back at school tomorrow. He keeps saying he doesn't want to go, but we hope he'll forget all that once he's back there. Of course, he's only back for one day, then he's staying off school as we're all taking Mycroft up to Harrow.

Today in the park Sherlock climbed a tree. I might be to blame for that... So when he got stuck (or at least, wouldn't come down, and claimed to be stuck) I felt like I should go up and get him.

Obviously he weighs quite a lot less than I do... So John was the voice of reason (special Nanny voice, forbidding me to go any higher) and Mycroft stepped in. He got up the tree and helped Sherlock down. Which makes us think he wasn't so stuck, because he didn't seem to struggle at all then.

Mycroft, we'll keep you on speed dial for all such situations...

Mycroft seems quite positive about school now. Well, he's putting on a good show for us, at least. Of course he's a little worried - it's a massive change, so who wouldn't be? But I think he's feeling a bit better about it all now he's met another boy, and got all his kit and been in contact with his house master.

I'm fairly positive about work myself, having caught up, mainly, with the paperwork. Means that once Mycroft is at school John and I can try to distract Sherlock from missing Mycroft and the dogs too much, when it's all strange for him at first.

It's good that technology now means we can all Skype and talk and text and really not feel too seperated.

We're waiting for Mycroft to decide where we're going for dinner now...

Angelo's, or that pizza place. You can choose which.

I think the pizza place wins...if John's and Sherlock's reactions are anything to go by.

Pizza and then a group cuddle, right?

I forgot about the dogs going too. Never mind Sherlock, I think you guys will be freaked out at how quiet the house is. (Not that I'm encouraging Sherlock to make up the difference or anything.)

What ever happened to the pet research he was doing?

Pizza will be perfect.

kholly - pretty sure he still wants degus. He might even get them if he manages to behave himself.

Which hopefully will be a motivator. Because if he can't behave, he's definitely not being trusted with pets.

It will be much better to get themm once the dogs are away more, so they can run a bit freer in his room or something with no fear of becoming lunch for a dog.

Greg, don't you find that summer holidays don't really exist once you start working?

It's good to see that Mycroft and Sherlock are close, for all that siblings may argue from time to time. It's definitely going to be an interesting couple of days, but I'm sure you and John can handle anything that comes your way.

Mycroft - Being a little scared of new experiences is normal. The first time I left home to live by myself in a new place, my hands didn't stop shaking for a day or two, and I was already in college! I pushed through my nerves by keeping myself busy and then one day, I found that I was happy. Good luck with your move, and I hope all goes well.

Enjoy the last day of summer! *hugs for everyone*

When I was kid and two of my elder sisters went away to university, I missed them a lot and it was difficult. It gets easier later, and you learn that no matter where you are, you're still family. :) We're still close to each other. One of my sisters lives abroad, but she calls almost every day, we chat often... I haven't seen her since January and, while I'd like to see her soon and miss her, I don't feel sad any more. I believe the same will happen for Sherlock and Mycroft. They will learn to value each other and their bound even more and they will learn that, even if life takes you through different paths, you're still family and you can still count on each other and *be there* in spite of the distance. :)

A - Sherlock was most distressed to find out I didn't get summer holidays.

He's been quite a handful this evening. All getting a bit real for him, now he's off to school tomorrow and then Mycroft will be off the next day. I'm fairly sure he's still awake upstairs now, although John's managed to get him to stay in his room now.

I think he's hoping that if he doesn't go to sleep, tomorrow won't come...

Lupe - yeah, and we'll visit often, or Mycroft will come home. So it's not like they'll ever be apart for too long.

I always hated the end of summer break, so I totally feel for Sherlock. Hopefully he'll get some sleep, though, and going back to school won't be so bad.

I hope things remain calm for you guys, and that tomorrow and Tuesday go smoothly. A lot of changes are taking place this week, what an adventure!

Mycroft, I know it's a bit daunting to leave home for the first time, but it does get better. When I joined the Army it was the first time I had ever been away from home for more than a few nights, and I was terrified. After a few days, though, it wasn't so bad. Hopefully once you get settled in you'll find the same thing, and enjoy being at your new school.

Good luck to you all this week!
