Feels like a murder but that's alright

Do any of you actually check up my titles? I often wonder... just occasionally I'm very pleased with them! But I entirely understand that you don't want to spend time trying to track them down.

Anyway, today after...ah, I can't tell you how many cups of coffee, or someone will probably call me an ambulance or something - I got called (well, sort of volunteered a bit) to a squat - a crack house. Someone had called in saying there was a body. Didn't leave their own name, annoyingly.

The whole place was just...well, every bodily function had a pretty good showing. Needles everywhere, drugs paraphenalia, parephenalia. Paraphernalia... that one. And a body, as promised.

So we spent hours digging through it, bagging, tagging, sampling...there will be more DNA register hits from one room than we normally get in ten murder cases, I'd guess.

It was a total mess, and a pretty depressing look at society. And I really don't enjoy digging about in that sort of gear - there's a very real fear of getting stuck with a sharp of some kind.

And all this after being woken up early by Sherlock tugging on my hand to tell me he missed Mycroft. Poor kid. Anyway, we got him sorted and by the time John was up and heading for the kettle he was already planning some form of bubble machine extravaganza. I can't keep up.

I think Sherlock's said he's doing something for the school show that involves singing. And maybe dancing... I think Mrs N is trying to get their class to do something all together. Good luck to her :)

Honestly I tend to try and find the lyrics every time, now and again it panics me slightly and sometimes I ask how relevant it is rather than worry but I tend to find them :-)

It sounds like you had an interesting day, I really didn't mean volunteer to go to a crack house when I said get some fresh air, I was more thinking a trip to the coffee shop ;-)

I hope Sherlock copes with the next few weeks without Mycroft and that he remembers this feeling when he gets annoyed at him at times when they're together. It is really cute that he misses him, I guess Mycroft feels the same about Sherlock in some ways as well.

(I mostly check out your lyrics/titles--I don't always mention it, but I do like the way the song titles fit! And sometimes I play the songs, too. :) )

That doesn't sound like a fun day, but I imagine it did keep you awake. And I'm VERY glad you didn't get stuck with anything.

Is the bubble machine instead of the fog machine? (Bubbles are very festive! And a lot less Halloween-y. :))

Well..try not to panic. I won't send out distress signals via obscure lyrics! But do feel free to ask if you're worried, obviously!

I think a coffee shop would have led to an OD, to be honest. Crack house might actually have been safer...

I'm sure Sherlock will be okay. It's more of a first-night thing. Like you said, the house is a lot quieter.

RR - I fear more 'as-well-as' than instead-of', in Sherlock's plans...

:D

I hope Mrs N is good at setting limits! I don't think fog and bubbles mix well. *considers* Well....

There have been occasions Mr where you've come close and said so when asked that was all I meant.

It would be daft of me to hope that Sherlock will sleep in later tomorrow to make up for this morning wouldn't it ;-)

I hope you're having a good evening and the coffee is wearing off.

Greg Lestrade said...

AnonyBob - yeah, I'll give you that ;) But...how about if I say that I won't only send out distress signals via obscure pop lyrics... I'll do that and talk to John, too. Although I find thinking about suitable lyrics quite cathartic, usually.

A bit daft, maybe...but we can dream...

I think the coffee is..draining out, at least, if not quite wearing off yet!

And now I must put the boy wonder to bed.

I'm not saying you're wrong to do it Greg, sometimes it is good to put music to the feelings, it helps you think about things. you asked if people look them up so I told you I do and that I take notice of them BUT I always work on the basis you talk to John about stuff :-)

you can't dream while being jumped on by an almost tall enough boy sadly ;-)

Greg Lestrade said...

The stuff I need to, yeah. I just wondered if anyone bothered looking them up,really, or if you all just thought I was making up nonsense titles half the time! SOmetimes they are a bit...tenuous.

And I keep telling John that.

Oh, you meant Sherlock as the 'almost tall enough boy', not John...or did you?? Impossible to tell ;)

Given what your job is, I hadn't thought there was anything strange about today's title. I do look them up sometimes, although there's inevitably a link to the blog about the third item down.

pandabob said...

I would hope you wouldn't even try to be dreaming if I John jumped you but hey what do I know ;-)

REReader said...

Sometimes the blog comes up first for me, SH! (Unless I remember to add "lyrics" to the search.)

Greg Lestrade said...

AnonyBob - I often dream that John is jumping me, does that count? ;)

pandabob said...

this is on Sherlock's do not read list right Greg? if not good look in the morning ;-)

I look them up sometimes. Usually when they seem familiar but I can't quite place them. Not every time, although I do know they're always lyrics. (Or almost always.) I kind of like the words sort of floating there for me to contemplate, and sometimes the rest of the song provides context that I don't really want.

As you know, I never look them up. I just bother you about them until you tell me, or sing me bits.

Anonymous said...

You have a definite advantage there, Doc. Wish he could sing for us!

John H. D. Watson said...

I keep offering to record him on my phone, but so far he's having none of it. ;)

Greg Lestrade said...

Absolutely not!

Don't need anyone recording me ever. Don't ever want to hear myself. Bad enough listening to myself speak on tapes at work let alone sing.

Better watch out at the wedding then. iPhones, videos, facebook...

I have to admit, I don't look them up. After 43 years of not being 'in with the in crowd' I sort of am never surprised when someone quotes something I don't get. And since admitting ignorance of pop-culture is as good as an engraved invitation to ridicule...yeah.

I nearly always see how they relate to the post though, and feel really happy when I recognize them. And have just realized I've been presented with an opportunity to inform myself and am not taking it, because I do know how to Google stuff. That's a whole special level of complacent stupidity.

Did you escape without too many questions this morning Greg?

I hope you all have good days :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, not too many! Bloody miserable day. Hope everyone is warm and dry.

pandabob said...

it was sunny here when I got up but it heavy rain now :-(

I'm glad you avoided too many questions.

hope you're day is going ok :-)

Just a point SEM but this is a multicultural community and the last part of what you've written is closer to the edge of what I'm happy to read here than I'd like.

Sorry Greg, not my place I know.

Greg,

So sorry to hear about your mom. Hope you hear from John soon.

ryo

and, in an aside that I will probably ultimately regret:

pandanon -- I'm not really sure what about sem's comment you're uncomfortable with? Is it the parenthetical comment? Because al-Qaeda is certainly an Arabic word and I'm not really certain how admitting to having trouble spelling an Arabic word is dicey.

pandabob said...

Regret nothing ryo ;-)

You are correct it is an Arabic word but it is not an Arab word. the comment made me uncomfortable when I read it so I said so, If me saying so bothers Greg or John I'll remove the comment, or they can, but I'm not going to remove it now and leave your comment hanging here because that would be unfair on you.

HM said...

I see what you're saying pandabob I'd never have put my name to saying it though and no one even knows me.

REReader said...

I see your point, Anony--but I just took it to mean that SEM finds transliteration tricky.

ryo said...

panadanon -- how does one remove comments anyway? can you only do it if you're signed in when you make it?

no worries -- i just figured the use of "arab" there instead of "Arabic" was based on ignorance of the proper word to use and so was confused. prob no real need to remove the comment anyway. if it made you uncomfortable, it may have made others uncomfortable as well and better to have clarification.

pandabob said...

If you're logged in you can delete your comments ryo that's how it comes up now and again with comment deleted by author but only if you're logged in so if I did that your comments would still be here which is a bit rough on you.

I didn't mean to start a debate and I could have put it better so sorry SEM.

HM - no one knows me any more than you I shouldn't think but I felt uncomfortable so I should own that not hide it behind anon.

Please forgive any offence caused to anyone by my comment I will sit on my hands in future ;-)

ryo said...

No, really, no worries pandanon. I was just really surprised when I read your comment and had to go back and read SEM's a few times trying to understand why you weren't ok with it. So then I thought I'd ask. That way I personally can avoid making people uncomfortable that way in the future.

I thought it might be arab/Arabic too. Doesn't make me uncomfortable, probably because I tend to ascribe that sort of error to illiteracy, (or virtual keyboards, drat them!) but it does make me roll my eyes.

And transliteration IS tricky, RR! Did you have to relearn the geography of China too? (I still think "Peking" sometimes... well, at least when I'm considering a dinner of duck!)

Anonymous said...

Oh god, sorry didn't mean that. Meant that i probably misspelled al quida as I have a difficult time transliterating and it's not in my computer's spellcheck *bangs head against table* God. That was really insensitive.

REReader said...

I did indeed, rsf! And when I started studying t'ai chi I had to start all over, because there are several different standards, and authors seem to choose randomly. (And some use some personal variant, just to keep things interesting, I presume.) And forget about Hebrew transliterations--I think there are nothing but variants!

pandabob said...

don't worry SEM but can we draw a line under this and move on please?

Not sure Greg needs this right now and I really will keep my mouth shut next time ;-)

Anonymous said...

Sure. Sorry Greg and John. And let us all move on and be friends. I'm still greatful pandabob about you helping me with my confusion over the wheelie comment.
