Feelin' hot hot hot

Okay, I know it's a cliché, talking about weather, but it is bloody hot here. For London, before everyone who lives somewhere genuinely boiling chirps up. London, the stuffy, boiling, no-air-con city of heat.

I'm knackered, after my performance of the night before. So I would have slept better, music and all that, last night. But it didn't drop below 20c all night. And it's going to hit 32 today. I bet most of London didn't sleep last night. It's not even like there's a breeze. I was stuck in that world of not being comfy, getting frustrated at not sleeping, all that. Reckon everyone's the same.

I might have to go bac to mine and break out some proper shorts, not just the footy ones I keep here for the purposes of modesty when wandering around the flat.

I know it's a stupid thing to say, but it was almost worth it all just to spend some time with John. Hopefully today our schedule includes lazing about in the park, heading to the Yard briefly, lunch out somewhere, maybe going to mine to fetch some clothes. It's not a bad life, I tell you.

And we're due thunderstorms, hail and possibly tornados tonight...(not proper tornados. Little UK ones)

Any possibility of rustling up a fan or two?

Take it easy, make yourselves comfortable, and get some rest if you can. It sounds like the line between too few and too many painkillers is a thin one.

Yeah, fans are a good idea. Although I imagine the entire uk stockpile of fans will have been bought first thing this morning.

Ideally we'd go for a swim...maybe John and the boys should. I can watch. And then take the dogs somewhere different for another swim. Poor things, it's like having two steam trains in the living room,, the way they're panting. And it's not like their fur is that long.

As for painkillers...yeah. And now I'mslightly scared and paranoid about taking them, which really isn't helping. Still, got the docs tomorrow to see what's happening, so maybe I can talk to him.

At least we're just lying about in the heat. I wouldn't want to be playing tennis in it.

Greg Lestrade said...

I wouldn't want to be doing anything other than lazing or swimming.

You and the boys going to go? Although it is clouding up. I'd happily dance in the rain if there's a downpour. And if I could dance.

The entire city of London's got the same idea I'm sure. Not sure I can face it. I was actually just googling restaurants with air conditioning...

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, and if it starts with the lightening you don't want to be in the water.

I might be able to cook, if you want? As long as I don't have to move about much.

Not that air con doesn't sound lovely.

John H. D. Watson said...

Sure you want to? I could take Sherlock to Tesco if you need anything, get him calmed down a little. Don't understand how he still has this much energy.

Greg Lestrade said...

I dunno. I'm pretty tired. But probably wouldn't appreciate dinner out as much as I should.

Whatever you think.

And no, I have no idea where his energy comes from.

An ice cold rag applied to the back of the neck will work wonders in the cooling dept. It's what we do when we're camping at 110F (that's around 43.5 for those on celsius). Hope y'all cool off.

I could cook if you tell me what to do. That should be entertaining for everyone.

My poor dog has been lying under the coffee table.. I'm booking him in for a haircut!

It's not the heat so much as the clammyness of it all. I managed 45 degrees in Egypt much easier than the 31 it's been today!

Would salad not be easier John? Boil some eggs then add lettuce, peppers, tomatoes, cheese and some protein?? Minimal cooking and nice on a hot day.... then again I've made meat loaf... 4 meals in one!

Yeah, we can do salad. I can just sit and do some prep, you can do the rest. Maybe go out another night. Sorry, I just think it would be wasted on me today.

John H. D. Watson said...

No problem. Not sure it'd be worth it anyhow. Plus all the places I found look like they'd want us to be wearing something nicer than we currently are. And probably more of it too.

Greg Lestrade said...

Whereas I'd be happy if you were wearing less...

John H. D. Watson said...

And so would I, but it's probably not advisable while making dinner.

Greg Lestrade said...

Not with the boys and dogs around, no. Damn shame.

John H. D. Watson said...

Why do hard boiled eggs get that green bit?

Greg Lestrade said...

Just means you've overcooked them a bit. Either too long, too hot, or both. Not sure what it is.

It's the ferrous sulphide, the internet informs me.

Doesn't matter, tastes the same.

John H. D. Watson said...

Huh. Interesting. Remember life before the internet when we couldn't just instantly look stuff like that up?

I think it's supposed to be slightly cooler tonight, isn't it? Not by much, I know, but it might make it a little more bearable.

I just wish the thunderstorms would hurry up, this humidity is *nasty*.

How were the painkillers last night?

Greg Lestrade said...

Can you imagine the boys' frustration if they had to make a note of all their queries for next time we were near a library??

And police work was pretty damn slow without computers, too.

Nameless - Yeah, I'm waiting for these promised thunderstorms. And hail the size of footballs, or whatever improbable forecast they gave.

Painkillers were okay. Although given the general lack of sleep, perhaps that's not surprising.

I fell asleep in front of the tennis earlier, though, which was nice.

When I was growing up my parents had a bookshelf behind the couch that was full of encyclopedias and other reference books. I'd watch some historical drama on TV and then jump over the back of the couch and start looking up to see if any of it was true. So much easier now to stay on the couch and pull out my phone. But the impulse remains the same.

Greg Lestrade said...

We didn't really have any books when I was growing up.

Think it's why I read so little now.

Danger - tomorrow, if it's not pissing down/hailing/tornado-ing, I think we should do Wimbledon properly - even if it is just in the flat. Pimms, strawberries and cream, the works.

John H. D. Watson said...

That'd be great! I might've bought racquet shaped pasta the other day...

Greg Lestrade said...

you might've...

You might be a little bit touched, Danger.

However, the idea of you in proximity to cream may be bad for my health.

John H. D. Watson said...

It'll taste just like normal pasta!

No comment on the rest, except to point out we'll be alone most of the day.

Greg Lestrade said...

I've got Doc's appointment in the morning (on the way back from which supplies should be purchased).

Then you'll have to see just what your healing hands can do with me...

And tell Mrs H that no, she can't join us. In any activity. At all. Not even watching the tennis. I want you all to myself.

We could even give the dogs to Anthea.

John H. D. Watson said...

Perfect. I'm sure they'd be happy for a day out. And I can't imagine a better day in.

It's supposed to be a good deal cooler tomorrow too.

Greg Lestrade said...

Really? sounds like it might be scorching hot to me...

John H. D. Watson said...

Depends how hot you like it, I suppose...

Greg Lestrade said...

You know me. Nothing that'll blow your...head off.

Just a slow burn. Enough to make your mouth water.

All the pleasure...not so much of the pain.

John H. D. Watson said...

Right, so, time for bed is what you're saying?

Rider said...

Time for bed is what he's always saying. You hadn't noticed?

John H. D. Watson said...

Heh. Sometimes it takes me a while to get it, but you might be right.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm not always saying time for bed! I'm entirely happy not to make it that far...

It's entirely John's fault. He's the one who has the gorgeous body and leads me astray.

Anon Without A Name said...

So, did you guys have a fun day? :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Ha, I've just put up a post...which I think suggests a general theme of fun, yes.

Hope everyone else had...if not quite as much 'fun', at least a pleasant day.
