Big Day!

Happy Birthday Mycroft

Yes, he's the big 1-3. We now have a teenager on our hands...

And his tasks today include deciding what he wants to do for dinner (home cooking, going out, whatever he wants), and if he's really sure that he wants us all to go ice skating at the weekend. As in, doesn't he think we'll be horribly embarrassing, flailing about on the ice?

Have a great day, Mycroft.

Anon Without A Name - thank you. Yes I did enjoy the weekend very much. It was nice to have Mummy, John and Lestrade all there. And Sherlock too, of course. And I was pleased that she had found somewhere we could go and stay with the dogs, too. It's sad that a lot of places won't let the dogs stay.

The nights were very dark. The village doesn't have any street lights, so when we were on the beach you could see the stars really well.

Thank you Elizabeth and Paula for the birthday greetings too.

Thank you, Kira, Mazarin and Humantales.

Lestrade and John, if neither of you minds, could we go to the pizza place you used to go on dates to? Then we could get take-away and eat it in the park. That way, the dogs can come with us, and if Sherlock gets bored he won't be embarrassing like he would be in a restaurant.

Of course this is only a suggestion if the weather stays nice.

Happy Birthday, Mycroft! And I think you should stick to your guns about the ice skating as your family will continue to embarrass you for the rest of your life, so why shouldn't you inflict a little embarrassment in return?
Later gator,

Fingers crossed for nice weather on your birthday Mycroft so you can have it just the way you want.

J&L - "used to go on dates"? Hopefully that just means you've moved on to other date locations rather than no dates at all.

Happy birthday, Mycroft. Welcome to the teenage years.

Mycroft--happy birthday! I hope you know we're all wishing you the very best in the year to come.

(Psst--Yay, ice skating! It's your birthday, go for it!)

They haven't been on a date for AGES. Because Lestrade is always at work. Which is good because it means he has stories about murders, not lovey kissy stuff.

I'M NOT EMBARRASSING MYCROFT, YOU ARE BORING.

You're being embarrassing RIGHT NOW.

UR STUPID AND FAT AND I WON'T MISS YOU AT ALL.

Dear Mycroft - the happiest of happy birthdays to you! I know you'll continue to make your mum and John proud of the man you're growing into. (I'm proud of you and I don't really know you at all!)

Pssst, Sherlock, it's a universal rule that you can't be mean to a person on their birthday! Save your insults for tomorrow. No, wait, just don't be mean to him at all, okay?

And Mycroft, happy birthday! I hope you're having fun today and I wish you all the best! :) Enjoy your pizza and the company of your loved ones. :3

Thank you Innie and Lupe.

Sherlock, you're the one looking like an idiot in front of everyone reading this.

If you're bored Sherlock distract yourself with this so that Mycroft can enjoy his day. It's an article about people building technology to talk to dolphins that a friend of mine just sent me.

Sherlock, stop insulting Mycroft. He's right, you're just making yourself look silly.

Mycroft, try to rise above it. Everyone here knows you're far from boring, and it's a pleasure to know you.

YOU'RE STUPID TOO. I DON'T CARE ABOUT STUPID DOLPHINS OR STUPID BIRTHDAYS. I NEVER GET GOOD BIRTHDAYS. I DON'T CARE IF YOU NEVER COME HOME AGAIN.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MYCROFT!!!!

CONGRATS TO THE SMARTEST NEWEST TEENAGER IN THE WORLD!!!!

(psst, Sherlock, that means you are now the sole smartest child in the world. Be nice to your brother)

Mycroft, hope you have a really great day that's all about YOU!

Greg 'Orio' M F Lestrade said...

Sherlock, stop. Now. Whatever you have to say to me you can say to my face.when I get home.

Mycroft, I promise we'll go skating, no matter how terrible John and I may be. Just don't blame me if I fall over lots and grab onto John for safety. Sometimes adults just can't help but be embarrassing! You can always pretend you don't know us.

Happy birthday Mycroft. I have a younger brother who used to be a lot like that, if not quite as smart. I hope you have a nice day anyway and that the pizza's good.

(You are also most definitely not boring. You're the most interesting thirteen year old I've heard of.)

I HATE ALL OF YOU

Oh Sherlock. As one hot-tempered person to another, I have to ask, do you ever get that tight, grabbing feeling low in your stomach? Kind of like you want to shout and kind of like you're hungry and kind of like if you eat you might sick it all up? I'm just curious.

I NEVER GET GOOD BIRTHDAYS.

Sherlock, judging by the birthdays that have been chronicled on John's and Lestrade's blogs, your birthday this year will be phenomenal. But today is a huge deal for Mycroft. You know he'll help to make your birthday special when it's your turn; for now, maybe give him a hug, make him a card, and dial back the anger.

Sherlock, as a younger sibling myself, I remember how frustrating and hurtful it could be when it seemed like my older sister was getting special treatment over me. But I can assure you that it's purely your perception; you're every bit as loved as your brother. When you say you never have good birthdays, is that (in part) because you haven't had a birthday since John was hired as your nanny? Making claims in advance of all the facts won't support an argument long term; while September may be a while off, try to be patient -- I'm sure you'll have a great birthday as well.

However, also imagine how you'd feel if Mycroft yelled at you on your birthday. Not very happy, right? Maybe you could draw him a picture?

Mycroft, you may have (however inadvertently) hurt his feelings by presupposing he'd embarrass you at dinner. Despite his insults and capslock, I'm sure he does look up to you, and your opinion could matter more than he lets on. Hope the rest of your day goes without any further upset, and that it was a great one over all.

To everyone leaving Sherlock messages - feel free, but he's currently banned from the internet. I've no doubt he'll find a way around this, but he'll be quiet for a while, at least. Don't worry though, we'll point him toward your suggestions.

To everyone who wished it - the weather was beautiful, so Mycroft got his wish of eating pizza in the park.

Mycroft - I'm really glad you enjoyed your weekend. I love going to places where there's low levels of light pollution, the stars look stunning, don't they? I imagine your interest is more scientific than mine though, I just enjoy looking at the incredible number of stars, and knowing that I'm an inherent and unique part of something much larger than myself.

It's a shame that so few places allow dogs; presumably it's even more difficult with two of them (and I get the impression that they're quite big too)? But not everyone has the same ability to control their dogs that you do, so I suppose it's understandable. It does show how much of an effort your Mum made for you though.

Pizza in the park with everyone sounds lovely too. Better than chips on the sofa, which is what I'm having :-p
